Interesting, I learned that all the silverware should be 1 inch from the table edge and lined up evenly at the base and not staggered as yours are here. Of course the dessert silverware is the exception, as it is placed at the top of they plate as you showed it. I have also seen the butter knife placed many different was on the Bread & Butter plate.
Great video! Thank you so much. I would like to improve my way how I have been arriving to the tables and doing all the set up for silverwares in every table. Do you any video related with this goal?
There is the way it should be done, there is the way people think it should be done and there is the way it is done. It all differs from place to place and tradition to tradition. Really a meal should consist of soup, fish, meat, sweet and savoury. After this the meal proper is over and the table cleared, at this stage things become less formal. Port / liquers and chreese may be served and in days of yore cigars and ash trays would be produced. The whole thing should be flexible and sensible, and while guidelines are always useful, nothing is written in stone.
So,...... While I thank you for your tutorial on how 2 set the table, the description in your drop down box has a conflicting sentence that does not make sense or worded correctly.... This is not a disrespectful comment.. simply a helpful suggestion... Thanks
This is not the way a formal table is set, according to my teaching. To the right are the knives and spoons in order of how they are used. The first utensil to be used on the outside working in toward the plate. The left side has the forks, the first utensil to be used on the outside. Sometimes the dessert fork, spoon, and or knife is placed atop the plate, but not on a formal setting. Wine glasses are brought to the table only at the time the wine is also brought to the table and those glasses not being used to be removed.
Sometimes they are a bit smaller than those used for the main course, as could be clearly seen from other videos about arranging a more or less formal table.
Arrange the tables set up this way there is no space for 2nd or 3rd or 4th person to sit and place their cutlery for them.. wrong soup spoon. Sid plate put top there how to place other person dinner plate? So silly set up 😄

Main course wine glass should be placed over the main course knife. (As you said) but you put it between the soup spoon and fish knife!
I love the art in your tools used.
Thank you!

Charger plates are not for decor.
Their purpose is to protect a real wood table from heat.
Which is the distinctive feature of salad fork and knife ???

Anyone who tried this knows the pain of washing those dishes afterwards
😅😅
Only millionaires and billionaires can afford to do this. smh
😂
six glasses, my guy? 😂😂😂
That definitely is not a soup spoon. Americans need to import those from Europe.
Nooooooo, never ever use fish knives, vulgar. 😢
Great video! Thank you so much.
