    These reviews and all of my work is 100% crowdfunded by the MTB public via my competitions. The only products I offer to win have passed the AstonMTB test and I really believe are the best options on the market. Check out my current competitions here: astonmtb.com/
    About me: lifelong MTB rider and racer. Bad World Cup downhiller and a slightly better EWS racer. Qualified MTB coach and guide. 5 years as the European Technical Editor for Pinkbike, followed by some years of testing and prototyping for brands within the industry.
    Now I've thrown everything into this project to create the best independent bike reviews in the world.
    These products are bought at full retail price, and the reviews are funded 100% by competition ticket sales and donations. Buying a ticket not only gives you a chance to win cool bike stuff but also to support more and more independent reviews. This is a community effort, you can support these reviews, or get your information elsewhere which is always funded directly by the brands or through their advertising budgets...
    Thanks to everyone for the support so far!

      Yes, I think my go-pro is trying to die - I've never had that issue before.

    My first ride of the year ended with 5 broken ribs. I feel for you!

    Love the bike reviews - unlike others, you don't seem to shout superlatives as you ride! 🤣- I do hope you get a camera with some sort of (more) stabilisation next, though. Sound i good btw ✌

      Yeah i had multiple issues with this video. I'm starting to think that my gopro is on its last legs, not sure what happened with the stabilisation here.

    Would love to see a review of the Archibald AC1, but understand that limited availability of funds and bikes produced is a limiting factor. I am interested in your take on it though and if you have any information about it from others you know in the industry.

    I thought at first you grew a tiny handsome mustasch. Just the goggles. 😂
    I have been looking forward on your take on this bike considering the rather negative pinkbike review.

    I didn’t mind the subtitles. Made it easier to know what you were saying when you weren’t facing the camera at the end (looking at the bike while speaking).
    The footage of the ride was very shakey though. Is it perhaps a chest mount rather than a helmet mount? Maybe it’s the trail. I just remember your Aston-a-tron vid having really stable footage.
    Not complaining though. Still love the content 👍🏽

      Yes, I think my go-pro is trying to die - I've never had that issue before. I guess it's time to bite the bullet and buy a new one.

    I don't know if you mentioned it anywhere, but which size did you end up? If you don't mind. Also, can you do anything with the shock to get rid of the progressive feeling that you don't like?

      Hi, I went for a large size. You can tune it out to some extent: adding preload to the spring to increase beginning stroke support and reducing the High-speed compression to allow more travel to be used.

    Looking forward to when they make a G1 with a pinion\effigear mounting plate.

      Yeah, I'm still not sure why they havent made an updated version of the G16 GPI. A lot of people seem to want that bike. The old version is a still a solid bike though.

      @@astonmtb2428 I contacted them about 8 months ago as you could actually put one together through their website custom bike builder. They said they do not offer it but have something planned for the future. I told them I am waiting.

    What stem are you running there? Also, what was that hissing sound i heard 2x sounded like air coming out of a tire… or was it a leaf caught up somewhere?

    • @astonmtb2428
      @astonmtb2428  8 місяців тому

      The hissing noise: I have no idea. I had a few sound issues on this video that I did edit out, I think my go-pro might just be getting towards the end of its life!

    How much BB height it has? and what is your preferred

  • @cunning-stunt
    @cunning-stunt 8 місяців тому +1

    It seems that manufacturers have forgotten how to make a decent stem whilst chasing shortness and weight savings. Everybody I see on the trails on new bikes seem to be having loosening headset issues.
    They chop too much material away and create stupid recess in them that bind on spacers instead of allowing the clamping faces to grip the steerer.

    • @astonmtb2428
      @astonmtb2428  8 місяців тому +2

      I think the headset coming loose on the first ride or two is acceptable: theres a few interfaces there that need to bed in and settle down. If this continues to happen each ride then there is a design problem. Dual crown is the way forward as the stem can focus on it's job of clamping the bar and not gripping a round tube and trying to stay straight.

      You can add them to the video in UA-cam so they can be toggled on and off by viewers as preferred.

    It's OK when you can afford to buy 6 7 grand bikes all the time.
