Who else is revisiting this masterpiece after hearing Dickey’s passing? Truly a genius of a guitarist
Rock in peace Dickey!!! One of the best ever.
Heaven is jamming with Gregg, Duane, Butch and Dickie together ❤️
I am June 2024
Dickey is an absolute genius player, so melodic and soulful. He doesn’t have blood running through his veins, just pure music
one of the most melodic bluesiest slides I've heard
Nothing better than Shrooms and listening to Soul Shine,or anything else from the Allman Brothers. Facts.....
Try listening to Jesse Ed Davis play this. (On ""Taj Mahal") Taj,s 1st album.🙂
This comment will never get old
RIP Dickey
Pure Greatness - We lost a legend, R.I.P. D, Thanks for the soundtrack to some good times.
Mama turn your your lamp down LOW. This is primo ol' time rockin' at its DAMNED best!!!!👍 Beautiful Greg with All that HAIR. Hellllllll yesssssssss!
I'm
Dickey just killing it on slide. What am i talking about the whole band is tight as fuck.
Still, and always will be, better than any of the bullsh*t you hear today
They were really smokin' that day!
I was thinking the same thing- and in Gainsville, with thousands of college kids screaming, the boys were relaxed and having a blast- I was there for the Florida relays in '80, and it was a fun place to be
If I'm feeling blue I just listen to this song-instant pick-me-up! Listen to it first thing in the morning to get off to a great start!
There will never be another Allman brothers band! They invented southern rock 🥌🥌🪨
RIP Gregg your passing left a hole that can never be filled.
That's a 10/4
RIP Dickey Betts. You and Duane are reunited again 🙏
So many bands sold out( eg zz top) not the Allman brothers thei stayed true to their music it doesn't get better ty that!

Dickey Betts playing slide on a Gibson SG is a beautiful thing.

THEY BROUGHT THEIR A GAME....GREATEST BAND EVER
I rarely talk opinionated I always go by facts I have to say this is the greatest band of all time I saw them every year at Jones Beach when I got back together in 1989 the show is 2 years in a row where the best two shows I've ever seen in my life of any band one year they started off with done somebody wrong couldn't believe how good it was the another year they started off with don't want you no more and Not My Cross to Bear you know the first two songs on the first album I've never just I've never heard anything like those two shows the best of them all the Allman Brothers Band
RIP Gregg! So glad i hot to meet you and get your autograph! Best night ever!!!❤❤❤
There will never be another group this great ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
Dickey is just a beast so so good
Legend
I saw them at the bandshell…miss Duane, and now of course Gregg.
Rest in Peace Gregg...thanks for so much great music.
Yeah, wow. Harsh fuckin' loss. I love the Allman Brothers' music. They are one of my two most favorite bands. The other being the Stones. Depending on my mood on any day they alternate between the nimber 1 and number 2 spots if my all time favorites. I was verrrrry unhappy the day the bad news came that he'd passed. To usurp Don McLean's lyrics from "American Pie," for me, it was like the day the music died and I'm not being dramatic. What a sad disappointment, and I'm just a fan. He was too young. Feel bad for his family.

Allman Brothers. The Best of the Best!!! Unique!!!!!
Very few bands have ever been close to this level of bandness/tightness live
40 years later they are still rockin'.
can't get better than that
Lawd have mercy, it just does not--does not--does not get any better than this!!! That's one of the best damn bands to ever play, and one of the best versions of this song anyone has done, period, IMO, man, were they ever on their game that day...
The Iconic ABB song! Absolutely fantastic
Awesome Band.....Awesome players....All of them. RIP Gregg
It's been so long since I've seen what they looked like, I forgot how handsome Greg was back then. I never forgot how good they were though, such an amazing band.

Rocking Blues, dance all night. Here's to you Greg, you were beautiful and your band made me happy. That's a lot.
This is a great clip in all respects.
I met him once at a performance in Northern Ohio, could barely speak. Tears and condolences for his family and friends. RIP
Long blonde mane and some stunner shades.
Good ol Allman Brothers....never gets old.
Betts doesn't get his just due. He's always"The other guy" He plays slide great.
He was called The King of the Guitar. A legend of a man and the most melodic guitarist I've heard.
As Duane said,,,"Eric Clapton aint got shit on Dickey Betts."
He was good. The problem was that Duane was godly.
Agreed he wrote much of what I consider the ABB's best music. Fantastic player
Duane even said that he was the “famous” one, but Betts was a better guitarist
Greg Allman was good looking holy fuck
Danny Toler was such a nice man and so was Frankie ..his brother
Love the Allman Brothers always will! Rock on! In heaven

Statesboro Blues at Christmas .... Let it Roll .... The Allman Brothers .... 2016
They were such a fine band. That was many years ago when we saw them live.
BEST TAVERN DRINKING, CLOSING,FIGHTING, FUCKING SONG EVER RECORDED
It's kind of funny at one time I heard Dickey Betts saying he wasn't that good on the slide guitar a damn Dicky listening to yourself he f****** rock
Dickie hated playing slide(according to him)...and he was so good! I think it must have made him feel funny with Duane's passing. But Dickie pretty much was a badass guitarist no matter what. I wish he and Gregg could have stayed together until the end. I've seen both many times and they've both never disappointed.
+circlecloud11 He was a decent slide player, not a really good one. It sounds
like he didn't care much about playing slide, too. The weird thing is he was
trying to be both himself AND Duane at this point and pissing everyone off
by doing that. His slide playing was adequate for the sound of the band but
did not take it anywhere special like Duane, Warren or Derek could. Gregg
sounds really good here, though. He was still a strong singer even though he
was probably very high at the time. In 1982 he was only 34 yrs old, still plenty
of energy left. Dickey Betts was very disruptive in the band at this point and
they had a lot of problems with him, as their history shows. Great player and
song writer; a nasty drunk who beat up women, too. Not a real nice guy then.
Well Larry I suppose you make a valid point. But there is no question that he was a pretty important part of keeping and growing the Allman BB after Duane's passing. Maybe if he'd sobered up like the rest the story would be different....not that there was a single bad thing about the final lineup with Derek and Warren.
+circlecloud11 No questioning his contributions or the complexity of
his playing and writing, especially of those wonderful instrumentals.
And, to be fair, if he hadn't stepped in and grabbed the reins after the
deaths of Duane and Berry everything would have fallen apart sooner.
Gregg was not able nor did he want to be the leader. I know from first
hand knowledge that at this point, they were in tatters. It certainly was
not all because of Dickey Betts. It just happened that the personalities
of all involved were fraying and this is what ensued. Dan Toler was a
friend of mine and it's a shame most people never knew how great
he was. I am an avowed ABB disciple, from an early age, too. It made
me sad to see this and maybe that's why I get upset about it. Dickey
did his best but rubbed them all the wrong way a few times in their
history, as we both know. He's a cantankerous and pretty unapologetic
guy.
I hear you. And I agree that Dan Toler was really a great addition when they needed a steady hand. A very overlooked player that contributed a lot. So cool that you actually knew him. I think he also worked with Dickie in Great Southern if I'm not mistaken. The ABB definitely has a bittersweet history but those songs we just such a part of my existence both as a young man and now. They are part and parcel of so many great personal memories. Cheers to you friend.
Dickey held the band together after Duane’s death playing both guitar parts until Chuck joined the band. What pressure he must have felt but he just did it and deserves so much credit.
boy, everybody looking good, sounding good. . . . damn.
Hittin on all cylinders right here
