Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder on the same stage. The world just got a little better.
I'm an Australian. Jazz & blues are the United States gift to the world. I'm still tingling from that performance. Thanks guys
Mr Taj Mahal is a gift to the whole World 🌎... carrying the message ❤
Top Of the World Here
I’m an Aussie too. Why don’t we hear the likes of this and Jonny Lang on our radio?
Well thanks for the Emmanuel Brothers back at you!
& this ear from U.S.
tips his hat to Australians who Get It & know how to make the rock roll
Edit: i lived in Darwin 1970-71 as a kid,
& when people in America ask me what Australia is like, i tell them, i only been to their Northern Territory,
but from what i saw there, camping alongside offshoots of the Adelaide River,
& just the wild west vibe of the people, to my american friends,
i tell em,
yeah, man, they out Texas Texas.
true story.
I love watching Ry jump out of his seat at the end 😂😂😂 oh god he’s precious
Real music played by real musicians. I had the honor of doing sound for Taj three times, and I've always been a fan of Ry Cooder since his first solo releases and his contributions to the Performance soundtrack. I also owe him a big "thank you" for his efforts in bringing Buena Vista Social Club to the rest of the world. These are world class people with few peers.
Don't recall ever seeing a bunch of musicians having any more fun than these guys playing Statesboro blues with Taj.
When I first came across this video on UA-cam, the only reason I watched it "was" because I recognized Don Was on bass. I just wanted to see what he was up to. Then, when the video finished I was sitting in our family room with misty eyes, and said out loud just what POSROCKNROLL said just below - "It just doesn't get any better than that." If you don't love this music, you got no soul!

Are you welcome to here

Now that's a powerful performance! Taj Mahal is like a Mack truck at vocals. You can see Ry Cooder enjoying every second of it. Epic!
This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm having a rough morning. Music is so healing and Taj is a master. I consider Taj Mahal a Musical Shaman. And Ry Cooder is one of the icon's of American music in the lane of Woody Guthrie. Sincere thanks to both and the band. What a BLESSING!
Taj and Ry both great slide players were in band called the Rising Sons around 1965. And Ry played with distinction on Taj's early records. Both are deep musicians. The whole band is having fun on this tune. Taj's early version was Duane Allman's intro to slide, and we know where that went ;)
Yes it went stratospheric with Gregg's dynamic voice and Skydog makes it the go to version.
Yeah, we sure do... 🔥
I love both versions cause they're slightly different... ❤️🎶
thanks for the deep info
Nooo Noo. We Do Not Say Great..WE SAY MAESTRO.. Magic Man MASTER
This has to be my all-time favorite version of Statesboro Blues!
Mine as well.
Have you ever checked out Taj's original recording of this from his first album? This is the record that introduced me to the blues, and Taj Mahal in particular!
Me too!!
I’m guessing this may be the original version, mentioned earlier; there are some super track on the compilation album it’s taken from here (The Rock machine turns you on) - ua-cam.com/video/qo8eBkppC_4/v-deo.htmlsi=oT7CgmyZNTEF2AFq
Love it but Allman Brothers do it best.
Four great musicians. Buddy Milker on guitar and Don Was on bass. Great American music.
You two National Treasures, please stay safe! We still need you!
Stay safe from what?
Bought Taj's first album her in Oz in '68.
Shaped my taste forever!!
Buddy Miller led one of the first bands I ever played with- The Millstone Valley Boys...An Amazing musician! It's wonderful to see/hear him here.
There is no one like Taj Mahal. He is one of a kind.
OmG! That chair dancing from Ry is PRECIOUS. 💘✊
Very first artist I ever saw live! Taj Mahal at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. 1972
Ry Cooder - still the king of Bottleneck guitar! Been a fan since 1970…❤️❤️
Great version of a great song killer band nice slide work by Ry Cooder
I'm so grateful that both of these great men are still alive in 2020. Amazing to see Ry with Taj again, right back where he started 55 years ago. I can't imagine what it must be like to play a gig with someone, really dig their music, and get together and do it all again more than half a century later.
YOU BETCHA - WOMEN ARE GRATEFUL. I am Grateful. Lucious. Lucious Men.
So lucky to have seen both of these legends in concert (Taj twice, Ry once).
WOW - what a sound
I first heard Taj in 1967. For me he was the John Lewis of music. I knew if I listened, I'd be better for it. Only the Jerry Garcia Band put a similar smile on your face as you listened and you'd be better for it as well. Truth be told.
Two Great Blues Man.
What a performance! Judging from the smiles on their faces, the musicians were having as good of a time as the audience - they knew they were laying down something special that night.
Wonderful
Pure God Head Spirit…Celestrial Musicians. 2023
I first saw Taj in 1967. Bill Graham was renting warehouses and putting on concerts. There were hay bales on the floor on which one could sit. Once the music started, everyone was dancing and goovin'. I've been a fan ever since. It doesn't get much better.
Wonderful lineup... Buddy Miller is absolutely a master with the guitar.
The drumming on this performance is fantastic a real musician he drives the song just great
That's Joachim Cooder. Saw him in concert with Ry a few years ago and halfway through the show, my companion (72 year old woman) asked "Is it just me or is the drummer totally outstanding?"
What a powerhouse of guys on so many musical levels...
oh my god brilliant
There go the hairs on the back of my neck again. What a band!
Being named after Ry Cooder, this is even more damn cool to listen to. They’re really riffing.
Named after Ry Cooder?? You should never have to pay for a drink for the rest of your life!
So's my son
You have wonderful parents
Magic real music, not enough played on radio these days. Thank You.
Need to go underground like in times past to hear this get played as often as it should.🇨🇦
I have to keep playing this over and over because I love Taj Mahal's version it's the best!
Goddam, I miss live music!
Sublime thank u i'm fan of taj mahal
I'm a fan of both Taj and Ry. Slightly different, but both are extremely gifted players.. ❤️🎶
Taj rules
and throw in Ry Cooder
this is definitely ' da kine '
Saw Taj 4 months ago at the Chicago theatre with the Jimi Hendrix Experience Tour and The Cat can still lay down those blues guitar licks. He’s an old school legend, not many left
Saw Taj in Nashville years ago, nice little venue -as he left the stage, I put out my hand and he gave me Taj Mahal sweat that I treasure in my palm all these years later. Favorite line? "Thro' yo'r big leg over me mama, I might not feel this good a gain."
I have loved Taj since 1967 when I saw him for the first time. He brings life to any song he plays.
Taj, like a fine wine, keeps gettin' better.
SAW HIM IN EITHER '71 OR '72 AT VANDERBILT. THE MONTH BEFORE, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS PLAYED IN THE GYM, AND STILL SOUNDED GOOD. WHEN tHE BYRDS FOLLOWED, THE ACOUSTICS KILLED THEM
Taj, Ry, Buddy Miller! Wow! Wonderful!
The sheer pleasure one gets from this is overwhelming
Jeez, get your genitals back in your pants.
AMEN !!
What a great show Tash Mahal & Rye Ccoder
Today I went to the to the dedication of the William Samuel "Blind Willie" Mctell statue here in Statesboro. Mr. McTell originally wrote the song, in Ragtime, in 1928. Mr. McTell went from the 6-string to 12-string guitar that he played for most of his career. Taj Mahal covered Statesboro Blues in his 1968 debut album and gave it a version that was significantly different than originally written. In 1971 The Allman Bros. Band released their version of Statesboro Blues, and the rest is history, as they say.
May I suggest anyone that is even casually interested, come to our very small town, take a stroll down the Statesboro Blue Mile in the Georgia's Low Country for a great look into a fascinating look at history.
Mr. Mctell was inducted into The Blues Hall of Fame in 1981.
I don't know Pete, you go inviting everybody and some damn liberal will come and say the statue isn't sufficient enough for the contribution from the black artist or some damn crap like that...and make you folks take it down. The South is rich in US History and they're tearing it down right and left.
I drove from Atlanta to Macon and Savannah after the 2007 Final Four and stopped at a gas station in Statesboro, with the Allman version blasting on the CD player. Nobody noticed. I wish someone had, for I might have learned something about the history you've provided, Pete. Thanks. In Macon, I met Chris Patterson in the Rose Hill Cemetery and he showed me the graves of Duane and Berry and the statue of Little Martha... Chris is on UA-cam at a Gregg tribute the day of the funeral. He's a great local player. And I'm a goddam liberal who thinks boomer ain't got no soul... putting dumb politics up here.
@@boomer1954ful no place for politics here
Thank You Pete for the info...Love it.
@@boomer1954ful You're right, the south is rich in US history. Slavery was just so much fun - if you're white. And who could forget siccing dogs on civil rights demonstrators? Who needs dog parks, right?
Love me some national steel guitar. This is the best version of the song I have ever heard.
Nothing looks or sounds like an old National!
Fantastic, Taj & Ry..........👍
The real blues inside and out!!!! The best!!!!
Love them blues!!!!!
If you can sit down while this jam is playing, you better go see your doctor. This is some knee slappin' good times. Thanks guys.
TWO GREATEST AMERICAN MUSIC MONUMENTS TAJ MAHAL AND RY COODER.
Ry Cooder... awesome slide blues from the MASTER... and his son Joachim on the drums.. sweet
They play this 3-4 times a day in Rock and Roll Heaven. Sometimes the Allman brothers want to jam. Stevie Ray too.
Subbed.
The Allman's version live in 1971 ain't too shabby either.
Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder recorded this song together long before the Allman brothers classic version
Does not get better than Taj and Ry with all the other musicians
Ry Cooder has such great tone.
Wow, that tune, that beat just COOKED!
Jonny Beck - I was just thinking that very same thing.
Taj and Ry wonderful! Also Buddy Miller and shitkickin band .Thank you.
Gaddamn!!!!!!!! Taj on Ry. Served up hot!
Happy Haze - Nice!
Love that Ry Cooder slide guitar work !!!
Americas gift to the world. Music. Can't get much better than this!! Love the respect and joy these guys are showing each other. Everyone in that room knew they were in the presence of Royalty.
Just fantastic.....could listen all day long....heard Taj in the 70's singing six days on the road and loved it then and now...
goddam - this actually got me out of my chair. "refrain"....HA! I think I'm going to re-visit all my Taj Mahal lps.
Got to say ...but with Ry Cooder. ..
...and Taj .. really can't miss
First saw Taj Mahal in 1963 while he was playing at the Ash Grove in Hollywood.
I loved the Ash Grove. Once I told Ed Pearl, the owner how much I loved Tai Mahal performance there. He told me that after there was a dubious fire there, he hired Taj to rebuild the interior. He said that Taj secretly built an apartment above the place, and lived there for quite a while. But Ed never knew about it.
I can't stop playing this song. Nothing else needs to be said.
This tune just makes me feel good . Great job guys .
Transcending the question and the stigma ..... long live the blues!
What stigma?
Dang! This one's got that nice rollin' Blues rhythm to it - easy to listen to. Taj was singin' out pretty strong, and maybe that's why Ry Cooder was feelin' it a little, too. He really got in some smokin' licks in this baby. I sorta wish there was a DVD of this concert. If any more of it is like this it would be worth owning.
Woof! Taj is a national treasure. He needs to be enshrined on Mt. Rushmore.
Saw Taj Mahal at Glastonbury festival about 40 years ago ,one of THE best live performances I've ever seen.
Can't count the hours of pleasure these two have given me.
One of my favorite youtube videos!! Taj Mahal Band was the first live band I saw perform at Cal Expo in
Sacramento in about 1969. Got to shake hands with him on Maui back in the 90's!
Taj is such a great great singer player, composer had the real privelage of doing a weeks playing supporting him in 79 .his whole band were so friendly, kind it was a fantastic experience
Awesome some of the last. That doesn't get enough credit. I'm older enough I've had many opportunities!!! Too see these guys. ! Yeah some of them. I can't remember so good .but I remember I was there. Rock On !!!
Taj and ry started out in a band called Rising sons in 1964. This song was on the only album they put out .
White boy on piano hanging...
@@rickcampbell3735 White boys can play some piano!
Taj and Ry it doesn't get any better than that.
My sentiments exactly!
@@kathleenmcwhirter3583 And I want to add my vote to yours and Pops
Stevie Ray in his prime played with BB King i think .......
Jimmy Vaughn, maybe. Stevie was a show boater, Jimmy is an artist. www.bing.com/videos/search?q=jimmy+vaughn&view=detail&mid=5E01357345EC8D7A8CA15E01357345EC8D7A8CA1&FORM=VIRE
@@gsavage115 saw srv several times before he made it big - he was always a poseur - jimmy was a musician
Awesome version. My favourite Taj Mahal track. Y
Glad to see so many young people in the audience!
Your band, the musicians are Awesome.
Taj and Ry. Damn, American authentic, as you can get. Wow. I love Duane's version but wow this just blows my mind. It just doesn't get any better than Taj and Ry. I have been blessed and was lucky, I got to see Taj Mahal and I got to see the Allmans Brothers. The original. Thank you dear lord. Thank you.
And the Grateful dead and Frank Zappa. Wow. What a ride.
This combo playing this song!!What a delight!!
Boston Symphony Hall 1971. He opens for Dave Mason's 1st U.S. concert/original studio band ~2wks after release of Alone Together. Taj BY HIMSELF blows the place away! SOLO. Set Boston afire! ~2015 he set Savannah afire! On the silence I yell Aloooha! Taj chuckles, turns and flashes the Shaka! Lifelong Trip Taj!
Amazing….what a groove! I love my generation of blues rockers!
When I listen to this i feel like I have gone back to America. It was a great country, I truly wish we could all go back.
Love Taj Mahal AND Ry Cooder! Together, it just doesn't get any better!
How good does it get. Pure blues pureness.
Man O man did Taj Mahal & Rye Cooder come packing The Ryman with the blues. The applause was profound and way overdue, wonderful and historic to see a legendary gifted African American like Taj Mahal received the way he was in The Ryman👏👏👏
It's R Y, M A N.
One fantastic song that has three of the all time best Taj , Ry and the great Buddy Miller now that's one helluva guitar sound.
This voice; Americana, blues, life, legend. Thanks Taj.
To see RY's expression of joy at the completion of this piece is priceless
I love Taj and Ry's rendition of this song!
music is a great gift and not everyone can sing, Play a instrument they are truly talented. enjoy life with music...💝🍀🌻😎💖
Taj and Ry . . . . you can't tell me it gets any better
Always Have Loved Them BOTH!..Tu Meke!!!
I hear and see it again. This is a captured piece of music that remains for eternity. Well so.
Taj, Ry and a smokin' hot band! Yeah baby that's in the pocket.
AWESOME!! Gotta wonder what type of people would give this a thumbs down!
Deaf people?
People that like Taylor Swift.
Beliebers?
Dead soul people's !
Seems none so far..🇨🇦
American music is the best the planet has to offer, there is no contest.
Ry Cooder me rappellera toujours la merveilleuse musique du film '' Paris Texas '' de Vim Venders. Salutation du Québec.
I have either been living in a cave or taj mahal was and is severely underrated, i just found him i dig his sound more than a lot of 60s mainstreamers.
Better late than never. Just enjoy
Brilliant arrangement...as good as it gets...
Love Taj Mahal since I bought his LP "Recycling The Blues And Other Related Stuff" from 1972 - everybody who's got a a heart and ears for blues should listen to this record!
This is a show I would have loved to have seen.
