Amy: Mary, I'm a businesswoman and I travel a lot. Now, can I take my rabbit with me in the car or on a boat?
Mary: Well, I don't know about the boat but you can definitely, no. You can take your rabbit on a trip. Car, boat, plane, whatever you want. And the way to do it is to pick out the right size carrier for traveling. If you're in a car especially a lot of people buy a carrier that's way too big for the size of the rabbit. This is a dwarf rabbit. And this carrier, which is called a clam shell style carrier, because of the name.
Amy: Well, the name.
Mary: Like a clam shell. This carrier fits a small size litter box. As you can see in here I put a litter box in with some hay.
Amy: That's clever.
Mary: It's a great way for a rabbit to travel. Many rabbits are stressed by traveling.
Amy: Yes.
Mary: I would say most rabbits are stressed by traveling.
Amy: They hate it.
Mary: They don't like it. So don't expect your rabbit to eat or drink readily when you travel and that means that you need to have food and water available for when you stop. When I used to take my rabbit on fairly long car trips I would, every two hours I would stop and give the rabbit an opportunity for about 15 minutes to just sit on non-moving ground, and I would offer water and food. The rabbit almost always took water, and almost never took food. One thing that some rabbit owners do that's real useful is to bring a little plastic baggie of wet vegetables, nicely washed, fresh vegetables and to give the rabbit the fresh vegetables when you stop because he will enjoy chewing and get moisture at the same time.
It is a good idea to have rest stops for rabbits when they're traveling because a lot of them will tremble when they're traveling and they'll quiet down when they stop traveling. So giving them a break every once in awhile, keeps them calm.
Amy: So is it wrong, because sometimes, you know, when I travel I put like a blanket in the back seat and then she has the whole back seat.
Mary: Yeah, that's . . .
Amy: I know they can hop down and get underneath.
Mary: Oh no. Something much worse can happen.
Amy: But they just like to know that they're out of that and then they have their own space.
Mary: Yeah that, I would never advise doing that.
Amy: Okay.
Mary: All it takes is one sudden stop.
Amy: I know.
Mary: And your rabbit flies off the back seat . . .
Amy: Oh, right.
Mary: Very, very dangerous.
Amy: But she's driving so . . . Okay.
Mary: No. That is dangerous. As a matter of fact for the same reason you don't want to get a big carrier because what people don't realize is when you put a rabbit in a carrier this size, like I'll do with little Bean here. He's in this carrier and I close the carrier and it's perfect for his size. He's able to stretch in different directions and lie down but not . . .
Amy: And you can open it up from the side.
Mary: You can open this up. The top opens so that your hand can fit in here.
Amy: Yep.
Mary: Like that. But the main thing about this, the main benefit, is that if you stop suddenly there's only two inches around him on any side . .
Amy: Right.
Mary: So if you stop suddenly he'll travel two inches and hit the side. He's not going to hurt himself.
Amy: Okay.
Mary: If you use a big carrier and some people want to give their rabbit as much room as possible, bad idea. Because if you have a big carrier and you stop suddenly, the rabbit's body's going to slam into the inside of that carrier and he could really hurt himself.
Amy: Okay.
Mary: So you want to choose the smallest carrier that will still allow your rabbit to turn around and lie down. And that's the safest way to travel with rabbits. I used to do a fair amount of air travel with my rabbit and I would use this kind of carrier because this fits under an airline seat. And I'd come to the airport two hours early, go to the ladies room, si - Навчання та стиль
I love how the rabbit just took a smell of the grass and went into the box with that little jump. So cute :3
My family has had rabbits in the past, but I was always too young to understand how to care for them myself (my parents always did the cleaning and handling, and I just pet them under supervision). The last time we had rabbits was when I was about 12. I am bringing home a rabbit next week that will be the first rabbit I will own and care for myself. It's been so long since we had rabbits, and I was so young, that I really didn't know how to care for them properly, but I've been doing a lot of research, and your videos have been extremely helpful! Thank you!
So hows you bunny doing
@Abbey McCoy Are you still alive ?
Abbey McCoy be very CAREFUL they can die of loneliness and fright
@@maggiezhao9056 your 6 years late
Thanks for that. We took Bini on the airplane (we uploaded the video!)
OMG
Bini the Bunny you watch howcast
bini!!!
OMG Hi Bini! Tofu(bunny) and I are huge fans!
Bini the Bunny I WARCH U
The air travel info is so nice. I just adopted a little polish dwarf rabbit and will be traveling from the states to Germany and was concerned that he may not make it through the flight. But you gave me reassurance and hope!!! Thank You
how much is the clam cage and where can you buy it
no offense but why would you let your rabbit run around on the floor of a public toilet room? its filthy in there.
+HeyImMomo where in the video did they say that?
1
Zoe Mosaic Around 3:00 minutes. She said she goes to the ladies room (assuming that means bathroom) and lets her rabbit out on the floor.
HeyImMomo oh i see. Hmm maybe she put down blankets or a rug. Airport restrooms are by far the cleanest of public restrooms. I totally missed that part. This lady knows her stuff so maybe when she did that she made sure it wouldn't harm the health of the rabbit.
Zoe Mosaic I hope she put down blankets. Because no matter how clean a bathroom appears to be, there is a lot of fecal matter on the floor. And if the rabbit steps on that, and cleans itself after, I'd feel kind of bad for it.
Yeah I travelled between Singapore and Germany with 2 of my girls but only in Finnair with soft carriers and they endured at least 15 hours of travelling including transit time and fortunately for me that they are good travellers so far and I always prepare small bags of fresh vegetables, a tiny bit of fruits, fresh water and some pellet food for them. We've made at least 3 trips so far ;)
Thanks for this one! My family is getting two bunnies in the next few weeks and this summer we're going on a family trip with our fifth wheel trailer. I was wondering about safety traveling the two. This video and the one about proper kennels answered my questions.
Thank you for this! So informative. We occasionally have to travel about 8 hours with our bun and are always trying to find the best balance between safety and comfort for him. Will def be using these tips!
Thank you for sharing! I've adopted a 10 month Mini Rex from the Humane Society today!
Willow is being spayed by the vet before she comes home next Thursday. She is very laid back and surpriselinly didn't seem to mind hanging out on my lap in comfort.
She is very sweet and social for a bunny. I'm going to spoil her with lots of love 🐰
absolutely love these 2 women and their bunny videos, why don't they make more videos????????????
This was very helpful !!! Thanks so much. I got to take my little bunny to the vet today for a nail clipping.
I watch these and don't have a rabbit XD
CreepyCat AJ, SAME! Haha.
SeaFoamFox AJ yeah but I did but it died I don't know how many years ago so I'm going to get a new rabbit 🐰 may the journey of bunnies continue
SeaFoamFox AJ SAME!!!!!!
SeaFoamFox AJ Dude Same😂
Animation Nightmares same I just really want a rabbit
my rabbit hates the car carrier she likes to sit in my lap with her paws on the wheel and i keep some fresh veggies in a cup holder and she'll pick what she wants and snuggle down in my lap. sometimes she'll get her blanket from my purse and curl up and fall asleep on longer trips.
aww... sounds so cute! I think that every rabbit is different, so whatever works for her, keep doing it.
Awwe
When I take my rabbit on car trips I put the seat belt around the carrier!! Also I raise up the height of the carrier on a crate so that he knows what's going on, and secure both the crate and the carrier with the seat belt.
I have a Rex rabbit and she goes in the car without a carrier and she looks out the window sits on my lap she's fine we did this to our road trip to Florida from michigan
If you stop short she’ll go flying....
Thank you for this video it helped a lot, I traveled with my rabbit (New Zealand White) from Mexico to the USA and he did very well. It was good to know what to expect (he didn't eat but had water.) He slept the entire flight and was very chilled out.
Anneline Moore any extra tips Anneline? I will be moving to Canada soon and would like to take my bunny with us. I live in USA. The flight would be around 4hrs and total.flight time.would be 7hrs apprx
and yet my rabbit just slept the whole trip
mine too! I went on a two week road trip with my bunnies, and we followed the advice of the video. the only difference was that we stopped every two hours for them to rest/eat/drink for an hour or so in an xpen in a patch of grass before getting back on the road. managed about 8 hours of travel time on average per day, the boys and I would spend the nights in pet-friendly hotels, and we went from Ottawa ON to Victoria BC. the bunnies were still and hazy on the appetite for the first few hours, but then as the days passed they got more active, hungry, and sleepy in their carrier. good times!
Thanks for the tips. Planning a road trip with just me and my bean within the year so this was helpful !
what is she, like the rabbit whisperer! 😁😂
My bunny loves car rides! I just put him in the passages seat in a towel fort lol and he usually tries to jump on my lap sometime during the ride
thank you very much for this video. I would be grateful if you could give some more information about plane traveling with bunnies, please. I do have dwarf and not every airlane take rabbits on board at all, additionally I read that rabbits can't take pressure on the plane. So I was taking alternative transport, but I could lead different life if I could take my rabbit with me sometimes. I wouldn't take work opportunities because I don't want to leave my poor rabbit behind. that's why I am stunned that you took your rabbit for a long air trip. Please don't stop sharing your tips and knowledge, I learn a lot
My bunnies love it. So nice to hire this. Thank you.
It's funny and cute how it just jumped in the carrier!!😍😍
"I don't know about a boat". "But yeah car ,BOAT ,plain". What?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
What do you mean?
@@adaibarra5073 dogy
Waw your rabbit is so calm, whatever you do with him.
Thank you so much I am preparing for a long trip with my bunny and am worried because her stomach tends to flip. I will for sure pull over to calm her and feed her
My rabbit just sits on the car seat.. He likes sitting on the car seat better than the cage thing and he is very used to sitting on the car seat. Sometimes I hold him on my lap on short car trips xP
Haha
You have to remember though, humans need seatbelts. There are no seat belts for bunnies.
Addie C ugh when did I say I put a seatbelt on my bunny?
Wardah Akbar shes saying humans have seatbelts to hold them back when a car crashes an such but rabbits dont so its not as safe
I do the same thing lol
Im watching this cuz its adorable
- Don't give the rabbit that filthy salad, it's poisoned! Give him these veggies.
- OK, thanks.
- Youre welcome. Enjoy your salad.
Haha I know! But it is so easy to care more about bunnies than people.
Were can I get one of those clam carrier for my lion head bunny.
What air line can you take bunnies on
And can bunnies stand a air flight from freeport ny to florida
Thank you so much
Thank you! Learned a lot.
@Nic Scott Are you still alive ?
My bunny rides on my lap just like my little dog. My bunny is fearless. She loves everybody. Only thing is we have a towel and a big rag purse I carry her around in. She is really quite small and has a very close relationship with me . I also just take her in my car for short near home visits.
That’s cute. What kind of bun do you have?
I’m moving in 4 days and I’m taking my bunny of course so I have been whatched videos about this so I will know what to do
Dorn it I was reading the comments and I missed the video but the beginning!😲
We are thinking about moving from the east coast to the west coast. We have two bonded Holland lops. Will they be safe to take them with us in a car in one of these types of carriers.
What size carrier do you recommend for a 6-7 lb rabbit?
Thank you so much 😊
I go from my moms to my dads every week... will it stress them out too much, or will they get used to it? Can someone please answer!?
My rabbit loves traveling
Hi May I know where i can get this kind of Clam shell cage? I can't find it..... thanks!
my rabbit loves riding around in the car. she sits on my lap and I always keep the window rolled down an inch so she can always have fresh air and she loves it
but she passed away a couple months ago. 😭
+Diamond Girl I am so sorry. I couldn't imagine how much that hurts.
+Amira Peters thankyou
I would say they do need a bigger carrier than the one that have so that it isn't hunched over all the time. :D
I travel with my pets in those mesh laundry baskets lol just put a pillow on the bottom and zip it up. I find they don't mind it NEARLY as much as a standard carrier.
Won’t they chew the mesh tho?
@@paigiewagie7796 mine havent no
Kacheekyy okay! Good to know ! Do you watch Lennon the bunny?
So cute :)
UGH I'm going on summer vacation soon and I don't want to take my bunny because it takes 4 hours to get where we are going 😩 and there's nobody to watch my bunny

I have a questions can you use fruit for bunnies?
Where can you get the clamshell style carrier?
I'm wondering if it's possible to contact Mary for specific questions about Bonding. I've been having trouble with 2 female rabbits and it would be extremely helpful to get advice from someone as knowledgable about rabbits as Mary
Sooooooo cute
I've always used a normal sized cat litter box for my black Holland lop never had trouble with traveling probably because he traveled since we got him. Unfortunately he passed away bout 2 weeks ago
TheGertbos I'm sorry about your loss. He's in a better place, though. :(
+TheGertbos So sad, made me cry :(
Weirdly my rabbit doesn't like to cuddle me at home but if I let him out of his carrier on a rode trip he will cuddle me and fall asleep he loves car rides most of the time
What do you do if u have a peanut rabbit or bunny
Is it okay for rabbits to travel for about an hour each week or is that too stressful for them?
Do you actually need to pay an extra amount when travelling with your pet??
Where do you get this carrier. We are getting a dwarf bunny
I took my bunny to the pet store in a mesh bag. She was fine.
im going to have 12/14 hour ride in few months.does my rabbit can survive it??? xD ☺we are gonna be with a car but maybe i will go with a bus. anotheer question does bus drivers will let me take the bunny with me and put it under my seat? i wanna be prepaird for every situation
Should I bring both of my bunnies in the same carrier or in separate?
Together is best, it puts so much less stress on them bc they have a friend to support them and cuddle them
Where do I find this carrier. We have a Netherland Dwarf
What about if you're only driving for 7 minutes do you have to feed it
how much would it cost to bring a rabbit with you on a plane
i have a 2 baby bunnies but my mom give to step owner (i miss them so much)
Does it cost extra to travel with a bunny on a plane?
that box looks like a death chamber if you're travelling for a long time get a big enough carrier something small enough for them to feel safe but big enough for them to be happy for hours because he cant even stand up!
How would you take it on a plane
one of my dwarfs looks just like that
My rabbit is a true actress and loves to perform in front of people in my dads magic shows, but how do I know for sure if she likes to perform she is a dwarf lop-eared rabbit.
wish there were some videos like this about hamsters!!
Mam my rabbits gave birth to babies at my friend's house how can i carry 10 day old bunny and mother
My bunny loves travel 0u0 he always staring truoght the car window and some times licks it
By watching this, now I'm feeling stressed out cuz soon I'm gonna move out with my 6 rabbit and 4 small one that just been born a few days ago on a 10 hours journey.
How did the drive go??
@@maroo1849 its fine. we put it in a cage at the back of the pickup truck, tie it and cover it up. since we are moving out, we just cram more stuff around it so the cage doesnt move to much. its a rough road but they all survive except the little one. tho the lil one die a few days after we arrive cuz the mother doesnt feed them.

can we take them to Italy???
which career is good for a lionhead then
My bunny has its own jet
I want a rabbit but I've had a bird a few months ago and we had to sell it cos I didn't look after it.
Is a rabbit easier to look after than a bird? Pls answer.
A bird is a VERY EASY pet I have both birds and rabbits compared to birds rabbits are about 10,00000 times harder to care for so if you can't care for EVEN A BIRD DONT GET A BUNNY!!
But Mary you said that the most space is better
What airline allow rabbits to travel in the cabin?? 😮😮
Jazlyn Bree none, they would suffocate
I have two rabbits and i wanna know if i should get a small individual carriers or I'm fine with the big carrier I have for both.
Two individual ! You don't want two rabbits in the same carrier ! You never know if they may all of a sudden have a break out of fighting ! It can always happen ! You need every rabbit to have there own personal space So they can keep calmer ! Let the rabbits have there own potty in the carrier ! I have 2 bunnys and they prefer there own carrier ! I hope this helped !
Mia Hayes It depends on the individual rabbit. My 2 bunnies are extremely bonded, and they keep each other calm during car trips. They cuddle together, and when one gets too scared, the other calms it with bunny kisses. You can never have a certain rule for all bunnies, as each are different. If I separated mine, they'd get angry. When one has to visit the vet, I normally bring the other to keep it calm and happy.
Athy Green Yes your completely right! It depends on the rabbits personalitys and if they like it better ot no =D
Can we do the same with guinea pigs too?
yes u can I have done it several times but make sure it's comfortable and if the trip is over an hour give them water and no matter how long always give them fresh hay
What kind of rabbit is that?? She looks like mines
where do you get a bunny cage?
I have to take my bunny on a airplane trip soon, will she be scared of all the dogs
What Airlines could you take your bunny on?
AYooo bunnies
I take my rabbit on the train every weekend and he doesnt care lol
