      +Zoe Mosaic (Super-glued Mosaic) Beware: they're REALLY hyper and attitudinous. Discuss the bunny's personality thoroughly with the rescue before adopting. Lionheads also tend to suffer from malocclusion, bad teeth. Big dental bills. These horrible breeders only care about "cute" looks. They don't breed for personality or health.

    I have a lionhead thats 10, her sister recently passed so after multiple failed attempts to introduce her to other rabbits we introduced her to our 2 guinea pigs, as we had no other choise because she was just so depressed and sad and it was just so horrible to see, and now she hates being away from them and she's so happy and full of life again

    I haven't watched all your videos yet so I have no idea if maybe you say this somewhere else, but partway through the video you mentioned how the bunnies will huddle together even in 90 degree weather, and I thought it would be interesting to let you know that there is an instinctual reason behind that behavior.
    Basically when rabbits or similar prey animals do that, what they are doing is trying to do is convince a potential predator that they are one medium sized animal instead of two small ones. This is more effective on flying predators as, hopefully, they will see the "medium" animal and move on until they find something they can scoop up.
    There's a fancy science name for the behavior but I forgot it.

I introduced them almost immediately and it was love at first sight! They are absolutely crazy about each other and seeing them together is like nothing else. I find rabbits and cats are a better pair to bond than trying to bond two rabbits. My rabbit and my three cats get along amazingly. They sleep on the bed together, they wrestle each other (the cat is usually on their back and the rabbit is nudging him/her), chase each other around, drink from the same water bowl, groom each other, etc.

  • @BlondieeBabez
    @BlondieeBabez 10 років тому +12

    For those of you to say why dont you put rabbits and guinea pigs together, and why it is not featured on this video is because it is lightly because of the size difference a rabbit can seriously injure a guinea pig, esspecially with its back legs that can be incredibly strong and can even kill the guinea pig. Also they have slightly different nutritional requirements as guinea pigs need a increase of vitamine c in there diet and rabbits need more vitamin d.
    I know my two rabbits love eachothers company, they act like a old married couple and like to have time seperate but when my girl rabbit (pebbles) sits down the male (bambam) always wants to sit right on top of her and lie right infront of her face. They often groom eachother and enjoy playing with the toys I give them together. It is known for pebbles to show dominance over bambam but I have never seen them fight over it, quite often they are let out in our full garden during the summer and they love to chase and flurt, but bambam always gets the wrong end (he is a bit of a doppy bunny - ie he ran full spead into a closed patio door).
    But not all rabbits do like company, I went to an animal college for two years and there was a more eldery female rabbit who loved to sit by herself or just have cuddles off the students, it is all about the personallity. When I introduced my rabbits together they were very young so they took to being friends instantly its very hard to introduce new company if they are a bit older.
    It is important to have MORE SPACE rabbits do have times where they do need time appart, I never seperate my rabbits but they do do it themselves, my bambam is known to sit out in the rain and pebbles sits inside the hutch. (I have a full two layer hutch that is permanently connected to a run - only locked up for 9 hours max at night so that we have no dead bunnies)

    I have 2 bunnies, one netherland dwarf and the other is a lionhead. I had the lionhead since it was 8 weeks old, then a year after we adopted the netherland dwarf which is already neutered. They're both males with same age and we neutered the lionhead at about 4 months old which made him stop marking everything in the house, he's a free roaming in our living room.
    After we got the netherland I have to housed them in separate cages which i put side by side and let them roam the living room in turns. Tried to bond them but always end up in a blood shed....... After exactly 1 year together, I finally decided ok I'll let both of them out at same time without my interference, they chased each other for a long time until they got tired and just ignored each other. I did this like 3 times and finally exactly a year, they decided to eat together in one bowl...... the rest is history.

      lylah07 I am planning on getting a friend for my male bunny who is neutered and 1 years old, I want to get a female as I see that they tend to get along better, My bunny doesn't stay in his cage as he is always free in the home, how would I introduce them? Thanks in advance

    • @lylah07
      @lylah07 7 років тому +2

      Not sure about female/male bunny bonding, I heard they're easier than male/male bonding. You could probably try to put them together right away and see how they do, if you're lucky they just bond right away. Took mine exactly 1 year to bond, I know too long but it's because they're both territorial, I had to put them on a separate cages side by side and just scheduled their free roaming in the house one by one. They're both bonded now and both free roam in the house.
      I tried to force them together, but they always end up fighting and the little netherland always get some bloody bitemarks from my lionhead. Had to separate them a lot of times. Nothing seems to work with them, until exactly one year from meeting each other, I decided to put them again together and they decided to share the bowl of pellets. Maybe they finally got tired of seeing each other with a fence between them hehe.

    Loved the information. The first one was very eloquent and knowledgeable in her presentation. The 2nd one got a friend! lol I got a 2nd rabbit for Daisy Delilah the 2nd day after purchasing from the same store. Got a $10 discount for my efforts. Now they are bonded. Actually instantly bonded and it's a joy to watch. Marilyn Monroe is now running around and having a drink. She's very interested in the towel I left outside the cage and knows it's to lie on. We'll see about these gals and they are my little love bugs. So funny and cute. They love going around the cage and the 1st one is a little lover and teaches the 2nd one what to do. The 2nd one is larger and sweet as pie, probably near full grown. They're both dwarf mixes. Marilyn is named that for the spot on her cheek on both sides. The 1st one has freckles and is more mottled looking. I'll try and post some pics or videos of them doing their things. Who knows might even go viral. They are now grooming their paws in unison. Love is in the air. Bunny style

    After one of my first two rabbit sisters died, I got two rabbit brothers and neutered them. To get the older rabbit used to the two new ones, I had their two pens seperate to each other at first, they were close enough to smell and see each other, then I let just one "party" out at a time, and after a while I let them out together with strict supervision. They were so cute and one in heart and soul. About three years ago someone stole them from their pens in the garden.

    hey! I have two lion-head rabbits, one female and one male. the female is about 8 mounts old and the male is around five mounts. I want them to have children but most importantly be together so that they can enjoy each others company. I usually let them run around the house together and they never fight. But when they are being placed in a cage they get more aggressive. I don't want the male to be on the female too much if it could be harmful to her. What should I do? Thanks!

    I was surprised to find out the cost of spay/neutering. I realize it is an important surgery, but knowing that I need to spend $200 each to neuter/spay my current rabbit as well as a second bun, really makes me reluctant to add to my family. That is a real shame because my bunny will remain alone, and my potential second bun remains without a home. It is a shame.

      Cheri Pie That's not true rabbits are exotics in the vet world and require different courses and meetings so their vet care is a lot more expensive than cats or dogs (which are routinely/default studied) anywhere from $100-$500 is a normal cost for a spay but some rescues can help with programs. Like min normally is $250 but my rescue has a program that makes it $65 if I go to a certain vet.

    I used to have a bonded pair of house rabbits. The male was a Flemish Giant, and the female was a Norwegian dwarf. He was chilled to the point of being like Lao Tze, but she was more like Bruce Lee. She actually took on one of our cats who was being a bit mean to her, and scared the cat so hard it spent the rest of the weekend on top of the wardrobe and never went near either of the rabbits again.
    I built them a little house that doubled as our TV unit. It was a two-tier affect with a little path (a path! a path!) so they had a bedroom on a raised area away from their food, water and toilet.
    I miss them both. They were utterly hysterical, and if wasn't for the fact that rabbits will completely destroy you ability to get your deposit back, I'd get them again Best indoor pets ever 🤣

    Thanks so much for the tip recently one of my two females rabbits pass away and I got so sad about it so the other rabbit did the first days she was very sad and scare but now she is doing well I defiantly want to get a friend for her so she won't feel alone and for sure I'm going to follow the advice on this video because I'm so afraid for her to don't get alone with the new body 😁👌🏼🐇🐰

    We used to have a pair of sister rabbits at some point when I was a teen. One was black and the other was white. Inside their cage the black one was always very active dragging stuff around and the white wasn't so much.
    Then it became summer and we put them outside in the garden. The black one would just sit there, not even searching shade or shelter unless we put her there. The white one would come alive completely, explore the entire garden, and dig a den in the strawberry patch. She could get a hole a metre deep in an afternoon, but would come outside when called and it was time to put them back in their pen.
    The white one also learned very quickly where the edge of our garden was and would turn back when we called her but try to sneak into the neighbour's garden if she thought we weren't watching.
    The black one still preferred sitting in the grass over being in the pen though and would get out if given the choice. She just didn't seem to have a clue what to do once outside.
    They were both fun.

      +SaraTheMouse You should go to your local rabbit resuce (petfinder can show you local rabbits in rescues) and let your rabbit pick out his friend, a lot of the time two random rabbits will fight but if you give your bun the chance to pick his own friend you'll have a better chance of bonding them. Even if your local rabbit rescue is a little ways away, most rescues will meet with you with rabbits. As long as your rabbit is neutered it should be okay. Research rabbit bonding a lot and try to find a good bonding process for you. Btw I love mangle it's my favorite robot.

    ..it would be good? it is a must! i don't like the woman on the right.. double trouble, double the cost. blabla. don't be so selfish. if u can't afford two, then don't get any! get a hamster instead, a hamster should only live by itself. Bunnies on the other hand shouldn't be denied a companion. they need it! it's a basic need, like water or food. interaction with a human or another animal can't replace that. don't make it out to be an option to have a single bunny. it isn't!

      You're ignoring a bigger reality. If there's 1 bunny in a shelter or cruel pet store, and someone can afford to take it home and take good care of it but can't afford another one, or can't find one to get along with it, would you rather that bunny have a good home as a single bunny, or end up being euthanized [in the shelter] or go to a cruel careless owner [from the pet store]?
      If there were plenty of good willing bunny owners to go around I would agree with you, but aren't you being short sighted and careless - and maybe a bit arrogant - in promoting such an idea?

      +4Corry that probably won't be a good idea leave it to the people who work with the pet store. Rabbits can have a new litter every 30 days and do you really want about 50,000 bunnies over the course of 3 years

    • @3DGxExLP
      @3DGxExLP 9 років тому +16

      +4Corry The problem is that there are literally hundreds of rabbits in rescues already who need homes, so by breeding you're really just adding to the problem, especially if you haven't done the proper research into the lineage of the rabbits you're breeding to make sure that they have healthy and friendly ancestors. The people who are buying your babies could be adopting rescue rabbits instead, and giving homes to rabbits that really need it.

    Ps to everyone saying that rabbits and guinea pigs can live together-- IT'S NOT WISE, despite what you may hear. Rabbits are happier with their own kind. (Typically, opposite gender pairs are better when both are fixed, as males will fight with other males). Guinea pigs and rabbits are not even in the same scientific family. Rabbits are hardly ever vocal, whereas, guinea pigs squeak constantly. They also have very different diets, needs, etc. They can't communicate with eachother, as guinea pigs communicate mostly using vocals, and rabbits mostly with body language. Also, guinea pigs are much smaller than most rabbit breeds, and rabbits have extremely sharp nails. If they got into a scuffle, the rabbit could easily kill the guinea pig. Do your research-- if you want your rabbit to have a friend, i suggest getting him another rabbit to play with.

    • @FluffyCatGirl1
      @FluffyCatGirl1 10 років тому

      I already own a guinea pig, and sometimes she gets a bit grumpy, so if I don't know the rabbits gender, should I be concerned if it humps the guinea pig? (I heard female guinea pigs can't breed after 6 months, and I had her longer than that.) I think the rabbit is female, she hasn't been very agressive at all, but very nervous.

    • @BunniesAtHome
      @BunniesAtHome 10 років тому

      Rabbits and guinea pigs cant breed- their reproductive systems aren't compatible. So scientifically, they can't breed. But considering how much bigger rabbits are than guinea pigs, a rabbits' humping a guinea pig could result in serious injury or death, so be careful if youre considering putting them together :)
