I have a gig coming up tomorrow night which uses this system. I've never used a digital setup before because I'm too old school lol. Your video is gonna help me sleep easy tonight. Thanks.
I am a DJ and have been looking into going into Digital Mixers and going back and forth on different makes and models. This video was a real big help thank you.
Well... Imagine how upset I was to discover you CAN'T get an ASIO feed off of this device into a PC. Siiiiiiiiiiigh. Why on earth would they make this series if devices so that only the 24r provides an ASIO output and not the 16. That annoys me to NO end!
I get the frustration. However the UI-16 is an older design that used to be the SM Pro Audio UMix and was acquired by Soundcraft. The 24R is the first major update to the hardware from what I understand.
Thanks Tim, had this thing for a while and just needing a few more of the features. You made it super easy to do what I needed to do. Appreciate your help. In Peace, Bob
Great overview of the UI16 features, thank you! I'm a bit late finding your video, so I'm not sure if you're still answering questions, but if so... How do you route effects to the AUX outputs? We can hear effects in the mains but not our AUX monitor channels. I'm sure it's something very obvious we're missing. TIA!
Hi David, go to the Aux Send Tab on the main mix screen menu and scroll to the right to get to the FX Returns and push the fader up to send the return to the selected Aux/monitor mix. Happy Mixing!
Well, I can certainly can do that but there's one problem. I'm not rich and digital mixers are expensive. I don't even own this digital mixer anymore. So the next time I can borrow a digital mixer, there will be another video. 😀
Hi Rod, The unit has 31 band EQ and compression on the Aux outputs. You can explore a virtual version of the console here: www.soundcraft.com/ui-demo/mixer.html
Thanks again Tim! I will check that out. Another question. To connect the mixer to a iPad or pc I take it you need something that has its own internet to connect to the mixer?
Excellent video Thank you. I've worked with A&H, Yamaha , and Behringer,. Buying one of these for my band and small jobs.. Great walkthrough. It''s interesting how all of these manufacturers have strong points and weak points. I sell mostly A&H but this looks like a useful product.
Am in the process of buying a mixer primarily for outdoor events and have been considering the Ui16 for a number of reasons such as portability, durability, useability and the many host of features that comes with it. However I actually prefer physical knobs, sliders and buttons which makes me feel more connected and intimate with the mixer over virtual ones. Secondly everything is laid out on a analog mixer as opposed to the Ui16 where you have to scroll through layers of menus for the different functions. I might eventually end up getting the Ui16 but just wanted to share my thoughts. Other mixers I have been considering are the Tascam Model 16, Yamaha MG16XU, Zoom LiveTrack L20, Allen & Heath ZED14. So what are your thoughts.
I'm an Allen and Heath guy so the ZED14 is my favorite option. Yamaha MG series are solid little mixers as well. Don't really have experience with the other two.
Hello, any idea or recomendation how I could connect a pair of passive subwoofers to the mix? Im guessing the only way is to connect the subs to an aux port and send all low freqs thru that specific aux? Anyways thank you! All ive learned from using mixers is thanks to you kind sir!
Appreciate the in depth tutorial! Question - if I run the 4 aux sends to a headphone amp, can I use the 4 different aux send tabs to run individual headphone mixes to 4 different people?
Thanks a lot for the great video! I was wondering If it was possible to make complete presets that plass up when chosen with pre-put effects, eq and so on!
Great video, thank you very much! Do you know if it's possible to put a limiter on the aux mixes, for hearing protection when using the aux sends for in ear monitoring etc?
Ah, I saw you answering this in the comments! Apparently there is a compressor and EQ you can use on each aux mix, I could just set the compressor to infinite ratio and use it as a limiter. Thank you again for a thorough video! 😊
Thanks for your tutorial, I really appreciate man, would ask more question for how to maintain good practice this mixer to extend their lifetime? Such as shutting down the unit, just safe to turn down all volume and just switch that off? How about electricity stabilizer? Grounding, power conditioner? Thanks a lot
Sure. Number one is to keep the unit cool. I keep my equipment powered down when its not in use. Turn your amps off first and on last to prevent pops. If used outdoors keep it in the shade. A power conditioner is a great idea. Thanks for watchin'!
@proclaimav4197 thank you so much, i am using ups online that produce pure sinewave while backing up that when sudden electrical power drop. Is that ok?
Hi Tim Im trying to sort some IEM out, I’ve got the ui12, I’ve plugged the headphones in the slot on the front but it is really low even with the headphones knob at max, how would I do it in settings to turn it up thanks
A couple ideas. 1. It might be that all your mic gains are too low and your output knob is turned up too high. This will result in low levels. 2. You can use an aux mix out to feed headphones. Check out the Behringer P2. It will let you use an XLR cable from the Aux Output to a mini headphone amp.
At some point they were supposed to be able to do that but they never developed that feature. However, the Big Brother UI 24R will do that. I have mixed on a friend's 24 R using a touchscreen monitor hooked up the HDMI and USB ports.
Hi. Great video. I have a question... As a mobile DJ, I want to hook up my laptop to play music. Unlike my analog mixer, which has a built in USB interface, there is no provision on the UI16 to hook up a USB cable from the laptop to the box. So, if I connect my Lexicon USB interface to my laptop, and then use the RCA outputs and connect them to the RCA Line inputs of the UI16, will that work? And is this controlled by the L & R Line In faders? Thanks.
Having just done a wedding with mine this weekend, I used the headphone jack on my iPad with a 1/8" stereo to Right/Left RCA cable. 😁 However, this can create noise if your headphone jack is loose at all. 😶 Your plan should work better. And yes, it is controlled by the L&R Line In faders.
Hi! First of all, great video! Me and the guys from a band are considering buying the UI16, so I have a question:is it possible to use microphone connected to any input, but for a talkback purpose? To somehow mute it for main out and unmute for the auxes? Thank you
Great video, thanks for the info. I run the ui12, playing some smaller venues where I only need to run one main. Does it matter if I’m running out on one left or right main out?
So for mics it won't matter because they are mono anyway. 😉 The only thing that might be a problem is the stereo line in with stereo content. The way to get around that is to put the right into channel one and left into channel two (for example) an you will get content from both channels into both outputs. 😁
hey thank you for this video, I have a question: when I set headphones out as aux in the settings, aux 5 goes to the left and aux 6 to the right of my headphones...is there a way to set them as "mono"? For example, right now if i connect a mic in input 1 and send it to aux 5, I can hear it only with my left ear and i have to set the send for aux 6 to an identical level to be able to hear it in both ears. Very sadly I think that the 2 headphones outs are not separate...but this L/R issue is a further step in my pain lol

Is there an option to start playing an audio track playback with an external controller? I would lke to start music on stage from a MIDI footswitch without needing to mess with the laptop/tablet
I can hear hiss through the mic when Listening to this video on headphones and i also read that this mixer has this issue with bad preamps. Is this sound related to the mixer?
Does this mixer have the ability to do ducking(side channel)? I see the Ui24R can by using Subgroups but cant find anything on if the Ui12 or Ui16 can do it.
No it does not. The ui16 is an older generation mixer that Soundcraft acquired from another company. The UI-24r is the more recent mixer with many more options. If you want to do things like sidechain and multi track recording, the UI-24r is a better choice.

What that mean? Is that mean that you can use it as recording studio? And not UI12. Can you explain more this? Thank you.
Hi Aleksander. The UI-16 only has a USB stereo recorder onboard. I recommend moving up the the UI-24R if you want to multitrack and want a Soundcraft Mixer. Thanks for checking out the video.
Would it be possible to give access to users to manage with their respective channels alone ? For eg, say i want to give the guitarist to manage his channel alone on his own.

Great video. I've puchased a Ui16 and your video has been so helpful. What I am struggling with is that when I record on to a USB stick, the recording is a clean 'uprocessed' sound - no EQ or FZX. Is there a setting or way of recording a processed sound?

Can you please give the major differences between the UI16 and UI24R . What does the 'R' stand for in UI24R. Also does either device record the chanels with effects. Or umprocessed?
Hi Steven. The UI-24R allows multitrack recording via PC or USB drive and of course has more input channels, more channel routing ect. No clue what the "R" stands for and as for the effects, I think they can only be recorded on the Left/Right output of the 16 and the 24. If you haven't yet, I recommend exploring the software demos on the Soundcraft website. www.soundcraft.com/ui-demo/mixer.html www.soundcraft.com/ui24-software-demo/mixer.html
Hi there.! I wanna shift from analog to digital console i like the ui 12 and 16 and what they offer at this price point , but i checked out some reviews and blogs about ui 12 and 16 and many are complaining these mixers have tons of problems (network, connection dropouts, noisy preamps, even ethernet connection dropouts etc.).... Can i deped on these mixers at my venue without having an analog backup ? Are they reliable..?
Hi Aadesh. I haven't had any issues with mine, and I have several customers using them with out issue. However, all of mine are using an external Wi-Fi router as the onboard one is weak. I haven't seen any of the other issues. The preamps are not the quietest out there. If reliability is your main concern, then I would stick with analog.
Hi Aadesh, if you look up forums about any device you will see only complains. Considering the number of units which are sold it is normal that there are issues and 90% are due to users who doesn't know how to connect. I have mine for years and never single problem.
I prefer the device which works best for the application. I tend not to promote or bash particular brands. Every brand has features that another does not, so I pick based on my requirements. I like that the Soundcraft will work with any device without an app, and has onboard USB playback and stereo recording. I like that the X-Air 18 can do multi-track recording. Start with your requirements list in mind (including budget) and find the device that works for you. :)
Such a nice environment, but the limitations of the mixer are really strange. no pre-delay for reverb, no time difference for left and right channel for the delay, not possible to route the FX returns to a subgroup, no PEQ on the master and AUX masters but only GEQ, no side-chain, no db scale for the compressor In/Out/ Gain Reduction, not possible to route the FX return to another FX. Such a missed opportunity with the Ui series, it seems they made this to absolute beginners which is a shame.
The UI series is older digital design and I don't think they will update it and yes, it's intended for the less complex applications. Thanks for watching.
Hi Isaac, It will work with anything because it uses your internet browser as the interface. I have used an Android phone, iPad, and Windows laptop before.

Hello Aadesh ! They are reliable.....been using it for more than one and half years without any dropout problems
Can it used as an audio interface for a daw ??
And Love from india ....
For this video ❤
It will only record a stereo mix to a USB stick unfortunately.
@@proclaimav4197 thanx..
Is audio quality of stereo mix good ??
which do you PREFER soundcraft or berhinger?
I prefer the device which works best for the application. I tend not to promote or bash particular brands. Every brand has features that another does not, so I pick based on my requirements. I like that the Soundcraft will work with any device without an app, and has onboard USB playback and stereo recording. I like that the X-Air 18 can do multi-track recording. Start with your requirements list in mind (including budget) and find the device that works for you. :)
Nice video well explained
Glad it was helpful!
is there also autotune for?
Unfortunately it does not. Thanks for watching!
I bought a soundcraft ui24 digital mixer, but after activation am not getting the home 🏡 screen. So I no why
Hmm. Not sure. Sounds like you may have to do a reset? Sounds like a network settings problem to me.
Is this not iPad compatible?
Hi Isaac, It will work with anything because it uses your internet browser as the interface. I have used an Android phone, iPad, and Windows laptop before.
Thanks!
You are super welcome!
Aweesome 👏
Thanks!
Чи можливо записати в ньому multitracks?
No, the UI-16 can't Multi-track. The newer UI-24R will record Multi-track. 😃
Gracias
You're welcome. 😃
