In the state of Texas, there is no laws that prohibit Texas resident's from carrying handcuffs on their person. Nor is it illegal in any such way. I carry handcuffs as a part of my EDC and both before I was a Security Guard and as A Security Guard. Texas does recognize Citizens Arrest which ( is to detain a person(s) with a just cause in order to render such a person unable to cause injury, then to give them over to law enforcement

Flex cuffs or zip ties yes... handcuffs no. Law enforcement has the authority to restrain someone. Concealed carry licencees typically do not at least in the states I'm aware of. Plus, having handcuffs instead of zip-ties or flex-cuffs looks more pre-meditated.

I don't think I would carry handcuffs on my person all the time but in a bag that's near me I don't see why not again you never know when you may need them. It's the same reason you carry again you hope you never have to use it but it's there if you need it. If someone's being combative or aggressive there's no law that says you can't hang out then and subdue them with lawful use of force until authorities arrive

I hear that detaining someone or citizen's arrest can be a double-edged blade and that the law can actually work against you, because in some states it's a felony to detain someone under false arrest or something like that. or it could be used as a **** tool. ( sorry I didn't want to give anybody bad ideas)

That was MY concern as well. I'm 63, two Stents in my Heart, so for that reason alone, I will never "Mix it up" with anybody. If ANYONE other than a duly sworn LEO ever slaps cuffs on me, I will sue them into the next Century!

I watch stuff, Bruce Foster placing someone under citizens arrest can be tricky, you better have a very good understanding of the law, because you can get into trouble for a false arrest, but if a citizens does this within the law, the arrest will hold, as for hand cuffing, I wouldn't suggest anyone other than law enforcement do this, law enforcement are trained on proper techniques on handcuffing a suspect, or person of interest, not saying a non-law enforcement person can not legally handcuff someone, pending on the severity of the crime, restraining someone is allowed, and if these criteria's are met, your crime, rightfully restrained, you can threaten law suit, but you will more than likely lose, know the laws in your state!

I just LOVE you Armchair Quarterbacks. Do you have a Law Degree? Were you THERE at the time?
If you can answer yes to BOTH questions, I MIGHT listen to you. Otherwise.......

Bruce Forster here is my thoughts I agree that someone carrying handcuffs thinking they can just detain someone at will is illegal and bad, but for my 2 cents say I'm out somewhere and I get someone jumping me and I'm able to get the upper hand and stop the threat and am waiting for the police to arrive with the attacker sitting on the ground I would much rather toss them a set of cuffs and tell them to put them on rather than have to wait the 5-10 mins for cops to arrive while having to have my gun on them the whole time hoping they don't try to reengage me or pull another weapon. I admit the odds of being in one of those situations are 1,000,000,000 to 1 but it has happened to people before

It is not a good idea to carry handcuffs for many reasons. Just to name a few you are not law enforcement and your job is not to detain or make arrests. It's a bad idea to try and handcuff someone especially since it will be a high stress environment and you dont have the training to pull something like that off. Even police wouldn't handcuff in most instances were handguns are involved unless they have backup. I'm afraid I have to respectfully disagree with you here... but thank you for the info and enjoy the videos

You do understand that detaining someone is illegal if you are not a law enforcement agent

Completely wrong. Impersonating an officer like acts of dressing up as one, carrying a fake badge, or just simply saying you are in the act of things is illegal. But Like Carson said, there's a thing called "citizen's arrest" where you can, BUT make sure you have a legitimate reason to why you would and the act of the offender has to be a real unlawful reason. Can't just arrest somebody for petty reasons that don't violate any real laws.

Anyone can make a citizens arrest in Texas for Disturbing the peace or for committing a Felony. That doesn't make it a good idea to do it unless you have been trained like a certified security guard. They can only exercise within the same laws and any citizen however have been trained and will have backup. Attempting to arrest someone who may have committed a violent felony alone without backup is probably more dangerous than just being a good witness for the police
