I used to be able to make deviled eggs, with no problems, for years, then I couldn't. Peeling was the worst, taking most of the whites with it. idk if eggs changed, or I did, who knows. I tried so many ways from the internet I was just going to stop making them as it was taking me 2 dozen to make 1 dozen good ones & eggs have gotten hella pricey. This method put me back on track with the most perfect, easy to peel, beautiful hard boiled eggs!! Thank you!!!!! I did peel under running water and most of the time the water would push the egg out of the shell once you peeled the big end off. Tip: place your egg carton on it's side at least 24 hrs before cooking. You'll end up with the yolks being closer to the center of the white, making some beautiful deviled eggs.
I thought I was the only one. I also used to peel eggs no problem at all years ago. Then suddenly I couldn't anymore. Most of the egg will come off with the shell and I'm left woth mostly a hard boiled yolk 😂. I will try this new method.
Same here and Hubby Volunteered me to make Deviled eggs for his work Thanksgiving POT LUCK. Have the eggs boiling just as instructed, Will comment back with the results. 😃 This HACK is GRRAT !!!! I didn’t have any problems peeling them….Thank You Than You!!!
After spending way too much time trying to figure out how to make an easy to peel hard boiled egg where the shells don't crack open during cooking - this is it! I didn't have a steamer so I bought one on line for 8 bucks and followed the steps - and perfection! I personally find "white" shell eggs are easier to peel because the shell is a bit more fragile but any egg will work. Bravo!
OMG, the best hard boiled egg recipe ever! I've tried multiple methods over the years, and this is the best. It's super simple, and it came out with easy to peel shells and bright yellow yolk. Chef's kiss 😘 😊
After watching how much testing ATK did just to make a Cuban sandwich, I just knew you had the answer to how to boil eggs. You were so so so right on the money. I was finally able to boil and peels eggs for Deviled Eggs. THANK YOU
This lady deserves an award. Wow perfectly cooked and easy to peal as she said. I have done many way they say to do. This way is the best thank you.....
I got to tell you, I did exactly as you said and I swear I have never ever peeled them this easy. I love eggs and this worked. They look beautiful. I am not a spring chicken but FINALLY a way that all 6 turned out perfect. Thank you so much.💜🙏🏻
I've never been able to boil eggs without the shell sticking to the egg. Your method worked GREAT! Best I've ever tasted, too! Thanks for a new lease on boiled eggs. ❤
Thanks! I’ve boiled eggs many different ways, and thus far, I’d found that putting cold eggs into the boiling water, followed by ice bath immediately after cooking was the secret for easy peeling. However, the six eggs I just boiled by your method was even better. The only thing different was the amount of water and time. Whatever the pivotal “thing” is, these eggs I just did by your method, were the easiest and cleanest peel. Thanks. 🫵👍
I will never be able to put into words how truly thankful I am for this. The shells literally fall right off and the yolks are a perfect sunrise yellow (not a hint of gray). When I would do them myself the shells would take away most of the whites when peeling and they yolks were just blah. Thank you so much!
I just tried this exactly as explained and it worked perfectly. I couldn't believe how easy this is. Now I can make my own instead of buying them already done which saves a few bucks.
The important parts are making sure (a) the steam stays in the pot when you add the eggs and (b) the eggs are cold when you put them in the steam (which is a little hotter than boiling water). That causes the membrane under the shell to contract: since the shell stays the same size, peeling is easier. Also works for soft-boiled eggs, which should take only 7 minutes.
I put the water, steamer basket, eggs (eggs don’t touch the water) in a pan, cover, put over high heat and set a timer for 17 mins. Voila! Easy peel, no fuss hard boiled eggs
You don’t put eggs directly from frig into a steam basket they’ll crack. What she showed is exactly what I did and 1 egg cracked as soon as I put lid on outta 4 batches 1 egg cracked outta 6 in 3 batches I made. I put the eggs of the last batch at room temperature for 6 minutes and none cracked. So this method is wrong. Everything she does is correct except putting eggs in directly from fridge is wrong. Shocks the egg and crack
Thank you! This is hands-down, the best technique for easy to peel eggs. I followed your instructions to the letter, and I have never had hard boiled eggs peel, as simply and easily as this.
JUST DID EXACTLY THIS. CAME OUT PERFECTLY. THANK GOD FOR UA-cam AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU EVEN THOUGH HARD BOILING EGGS SHOULD BE A NO BRAINER, APPARENTLY I HAVE NO BRAINS. SHELL ALWAYS STUCK TO EGG, NOW IT COMES OFF PERFECTLY. TY SO MUCH.
wow. super easy peel indeed. very hard boiled, so i might try to cook a little less time, maybe 8 minutes, for a softer boil, and see how it goes. awesome, thanks! this was perfect.
I have graduated to a bamboo steamer because it avoids the high heat conduction of metal . I get fewer eggs with the thin blue line on one side of the yolk which was against the metal. Also a cold water from the tap soak seems to work as well for me as the ice water. Tap both ends of the cooked egg and roll it. A teaspoon used a peeler is quicker and more efficient than finger tips.
I've done this twice and it works great. THANKS... i am now trying shorter time frames in the heating process . 10 min leaves a solid but moist yolk. my next try will be for a slightly liquid yoke maybe 6 minutes.
Sounds and looks great! The one caveat .........super fresh eggs don't cooperate. The albumni hasn't had a chance to separate from the shell. I raisd chickens for 15 years and would mark cartons and stash in back of fridge for 2-3 weeks before I could hard boil. Yet, for store bought eggs this looks wonderful!
This recipe made my automatic egg peeler work even better! (looks like a white plastic Concertina cut in half and oriented vertically, you quickly & firmly press down on the bellows & force the egg through a hole in the bottom of the device, leaving the shell behind)
@@CreachterZ Funny, I tried this with two eggs, and they cooked well but I had a time peeling them, so I went back to steaming. I will have to try again. The thing I just learned is I can use my air fryer, with no water, just 250 degrees F for 17 minute then into an ice bath. They tend to have a flat spot on the bottom but it's quite handy if I just want one egg to pop into a salad or take to work.
I do 5, 5, and 5. 5 cook, 5 natural release then quick release and 5 cold water. Peel perfect. My kids gave me the yellow egg trivets and I can stack them.
I've done this method for years and it always works, whether the eggs are fresh or not. I also use this method for soft cooked eggs, 7 and a half to 9 minutes, depending on how soft you want the yolk, and just run them under cold water until they are cool enough to handle, but still hot to serve. Also I only use enough water to steam the eggs, not boil them. It takes a lot less time and energy to boil a half inch of water vs a whole pot full.
Look up Kenji Lopez Alt's videos and posts on Serious Eats. His extensive testing showed that starting in cold water makes eggs harder to peel than starting with boiling water or steam.
I just use a small spoon and some running water. The spoon is dull so you can squeeze it between the shell and egg. It's also about the same curvature of the egg so it slides under a good size/amount of shell. The running water is to wash away the shell that gets stuck and for the water to go between the egg and shell to create small airpocket so it's a little easier to peel bigger chunks. Use warm water if you want to make it feel like the egg is freshly hot. If you're doing more than one egg, then ice bowl of water works too but then your egg won't be hot.
You are a genius! Perfect hard boiled eggs; with rich creamy yellow color. The shells slid right off my brown eggs. I tried other suggestions to no avail but you hit the mark. Thank you.
This was the best and easiest video I found! Other videos said to just let the eggs sit in hot water & that doesn't seem like how my mom did it. (R.I.P.) Thank you for the perfect eggs!❤
I use the American Egg Board method of making hard-cooked eggs. One additional AEB tip is "Very fresh eggs can be difficult to peel. To ensure easily peeled hard-boiled eggs, buy and refrigerate them a week to 10 days in advance of cooking...."
I have an Electric stove - I do not know if that was a problem but I found that I needed 14 minutes -to get fully cooked yolks. The Yolks would be slightly undercooked at 13 minutes. I think is has something to do with how fast the water comes to a boil
When I was a kid (I'm 60 now) I never experienced a hard-to-peel boiled egg until well into my adulthood. Never. What changed in eggs between past and present? I also notice that yolks break way, way easier when frying them. What changed?
Instant Pot Boiled Eggs, peel one egg in 2 seconds: 1C of COLD water in a 6qt pot, 1.5C for an 8C pot I have a steel mesh basket that holds at least a dozen eggs and fits inside the pot. Cook at HI pressure 5min. Pressure release for 5min, then quick release. I cool the basket with the cooked eggs in a sink full of cold water by walking away and forgetting about them for a while. It can't hurt them to stay in the water. It only takes about 2 seconds per egg to peel them if you do it right. Take your cooled egg in your hand and gently slam it down on the counter and roll it around just once to fully crack the shell. Then you can grab the egg and have the shell off in another second.
For a more in-depth discussion and more granularity in cooking time, refer to Kenji's video about boiled eggs. It's not nearly as short as this one but explains why it works
What about storing the hard-cooked eggs in the frig and peeling them at a later date? How long to keep? Will they still be easy to peel? Camping, traveling, etc!!
"Pete & Gerry's" organic eggs (nearly the only eggs i buy) turn out perfectly every time i boil a batch-- no special technique required. I can also recall that when boiling eggs as a child, while knowing nothing about steamer baskets, half the whites were never lost in peeling. My guess, super industrialization of egg production has changed things.
Yes. Did you listen to what she said at the timestamp you provided? By placing them in hot water instead of cold, the whites will set instead of fusing to the shell. What’s your confusion other than basic English comprehension?
I have steamed eggs before, but I think the steamer basket in this recipe is mostly or entirely just for ease of transferring the eggs to the boiling hot water gently instead of using something like tongs or a spoon. It's easy to drop the eggs with those. It's also easy to accidentally crack an egg if you just drop them in into the pot with your hands instead of lowering them into the water before releasing them.
Add eggs to boiling water, lower the heat, and cover for for 13 minutes…add eggs to an ice and water bath for 15 minutes…came out PERFECT!!! ❤
One inch of water, so the eggs aren't completely covered?

It did NOT work for me. I followed to the tee.... egg completely stuck to the shell.
The only person that MADE IT HAPPEN!!
This worked. I did ten eggs and peeled em in under five minutes. Perfect yellow yolk.
First time making hard boiled eggs, straight and to the point no bullshit and you covered doubling the eggs. Perfect video thanks

This recipe worked great! A dozen eggs cooked to perfection. Easy peel, no discolored yolks.
This method REALLY WORKS. Thanks so much! I have tried it several times now and the eggs did not crack and was super easy to peel. Thanks so much!
Hubby loves my pickled eggs and this saved my sanity! Thank you!!
THANK YOU!! I hadn’t had an egg peel successfully in 20 years. I tried this and they came out perfect. I almost cried. 😂😅

Thank you so much. I couldn't figure out why peeling eggs became such a problem. Now I know!
Thank you. Came out perfect. I did 12 minutes and had a tiny bit of soft yolk in the very center.
Finally. After 45 years; success. Thx
FOR REAL!!! 😆🙌🏻👌🏻
Amen to that. 😅
😂😂😂
Boiling the water first is the trick. You don't need ice, though. I ran cold water over the eggs for about 2 minutes. Peeled perfectly.
I tried this and my eggs turned out perfectly. They were very easy to peel and no dark ring around the yolk.

Best eggs ever. Absolutely works!!!
Now THAT was helpful for the starter home cooked (me). Both the eggs were cooked perfectly, and they pealed beautifully. Thank you!
Half the time for cooking and Half the time for cooling and the eggs came out perfect

I switched to this method several years ago. Never had a problem since!
Thank you! This is hands-down, the best technique for easy to peel eggs. I followed your instructions to the letter, and I have never had hard boiled eggs peel, as simply and easily as this.
I used to suck at hard-boiled eggs, but this was a game changer! Perfectly cooked every time... thanks!
you should stop cooking
Bought a steamer basket, followed your instructions...perfect eggs. THANKS and Happy Holidays 😊
Just pulled six eggs this way they all six came out perfect. Thank you for the video.
This worked perfectly. Thank you so much.
Thank you SO MUCH!! You are an ANGEL!! ❤
I did it pretty similarly to the instructions in the video and my eggs came out perfectly. Thank you. So easy.

we both got brains now!

These turned out wonderfully. Thank you so much for posting this.
wow. super easy peel indeed. very hard boiled, so i might try to cook a little less time, maybe 8 minutes, for a softer boil, and see how it goes. awesome, thanks! this was perfect.
Yep, I steam them myself and have for years. Best way ever. I also peal under slow running water. It helps as well.
Holy! Girl you did it-simple it works
I did a dozen eggs at once using your technique. It worked very well for me. Thanks so much!
Thank you ATK for all your recipes/equipment reviews. The best cooking technique ever!❤❤ Finally at 58 I can make presentable deviled eggs!
I'm 70! I have always asked somebody else to bring the deviled eggs because mine were never presentable. Finally, I can make them, too!

Perfection beyond compromise. No more cracked or hard to peel eggs. Clean it up is a breeze also.
cool,..I've ruined so many, I quit making them..
so, this is Perfect'o.
Thank you, Ashley.💘
Best video ever. Perfect eggs, super easy to peel, and look great. Thank you.
Just used your method of cooking hard boiled eggs so I have something to eat the couple of days before my colonscopy prep. Turned out great. Thanks.

This was a win. I only left them in the ice bath for five minutes, but it still worked great.
