It sounded ĺike there was also a French lesson in there. Good idea, it's one of the fastest growing languages in the world, driven by the demographics of Africa. Il est fort possible que le français deviendra une fois de plus la lingua franca. O tal vez el español. Or perhaps the long distance telepathic language of elephants.

@@liseouellet9705 Hi @Lisa Ouellette. Nice to hear from you. Khanyisa isn’t their blood family member but the Herd has welcomed her as their own which I think is so awesome and amazing too.🥰😊🐘❤️ If I’m correct, I don’t think that an elephant that isn’t related to the Herd family usually doesn’t get accepted but sweet Khanyisa was lucky and right was accepted into this Herd family. There is a male Bull elephant that is related to one of the mom elephants by blood and I believe the same mom to a girl elephant in the Herd too. If you go to their website, they have info on each elephant and who is actually related and who was basically adopted into the Herd. Some of the elephants do have sad stories as to how they were found and brought to this Orphanage. God bless you and have a good evening too. Sue M. (Florida, USA)🙏🏻😊👍🐘🥰

Goodness! One minute its all calm, next minute we can hardly see little Miss Pinkylicious, thanks to Tokwe and Kumbura immediately protecting her! Considering the lionness was so close, there didn't seem to be much alarm with only a little bit of trumpeting. She did hightail it out of there really speedily, best choice for all concerned methinks. Enjoyed Adine's impromptu language 'lesson' near the end of the video 😊❤🐘❤

The lion was probably watching for a while. Because of the thick vegetation and wind direction, it was able to be so close before the elephants were able to sense it.
I wasn't able to see the lion. Although I did pause and replayed the video. Was it a lion or lioness?
I like that they will occasionally have reactions to or interactions with other wildlife. I'm been waiting for them to come across a snake. Sure they will just calmly dispatch it. Just as simply as they can easily chase off a single lion without a big fuss.
A lion is a more direct threat to the weak humans if they separate them. Hope all the HERD elephants and the humans caring for them will keep alert and be safe.

@@cheshkat6321 You are welcome! Both of their channels (HERD South Africa one and Jabulani one) are EXCELLENT for keeping lots of beautiful pictures (Rangers Ryan and Nathan's great photography); information of the Community outreach projects that HERD does; showcasing the Jabulani Tours Safari Lodge (& pictures that the lodge guests take); explaining their vegetation sustainability project; showing the children's school they support; providing info on the ladies who do the crafting that is sold to help their orphanage; and providing info on each of the elephants.
There is even the knitted Mubambi (or whatever it's name is) traveling elephant and all the adventures across the world that people take it to spread awareness of HERD and elephant advocacy. They even showcase their artist who does the Khanyisa and Jabulani artwork that is created for the merchandise they sell.

Yes - it was so scary! 🙏💜
I've been thinking and have some guesses about what happened. (From my sofa - not at all as an expert.😊)
Elephants have been surviving for eons with these very behaviors. Maybe all of them running at once could be more dangerous. After all, lions are fast & will gang up on smaller or older - hence slower - elephants this way. (They do it with other hooved animals like gazelles.)
I believe herd safety uses different strategies. The carers seem to take their cues from nature.
Finally, it's probably impossible to round up 16 elephants not knowing what other animals are lying in wait or in pursuit.
It must be heart-stopping to have even closer calls than this. 🙏🐘💙
Hugs from an old chick nobody asked.😊

Exactly - I've wondered about this, too, seeing the carers walk, apparently unarmed, through the bush.
Honestly, tho, I've worried more about human poachers simply because they are often armed themselves and unhindered by morality.
To be clear, I have no specific knowledge about the size of the HERD range - or what parcels are near it.
I believe I read that the HERD property abuts other land that's a safe zone for wildlife. 🐘🌍💙💫🙏

Kumbura is so an incredible allomother to little miss Sunshine and even more She does not indulge herself many distractions in order to watch over Khanyisa and so as soon as they have seen/smelled the Lion wonderful Matriarch Tokwe and Kumbura have erected the "wall" around our Pink Baby even Limpopo came to the rescue and Jabu was ready in defensive position
Tokwe is very brave and wanted to track the intruder It took all Tigere's power of persuation to talk her out of chasing the Lion One doesn't come to disturb Tokwe's Herd with impunity !

She was in a recent video and walked up to greet Adine. 💙🐘 She looked very well.
And there was another video - can't recall date - where she was briefly 'scolded' by her mom for an unknown infraction. It was over quickly. All well.

WOW,!! I would be so scared and worried that the Lioness would come near the humans and the elephants too but, I do know the elephants that were near Khanyisa would go right to her protection and Jabu was so wonderful to go and check on his little precious Niece too sweet Khanyisa 🥰🐘🐘❤️. However, I did hear one of the Careers tell the elephants to calm down, was that long after the Lioness was gone or was it when she was still there? That shouldn’t be like that because if you want these elephants to be send out into the wild then you wouldn’t have done them damage. They will surly be killed or seriously hurt. Not a good thing when the elephants are doing what is natural.🤔 I think that sweet Pinkie girl Khanyisa is doing quite good and she seems to be doing very good getting the greens and other things off the limbs too. She shall get better as she continues to grow up more. I send hugs and love to my three favs always, Khanyisa, Jabu, and also Fishon too.❤️🐘🐘🐘🥰😘😘 Do hope that you Adine and your Carers all have a blessed and wonderful rest of your evening/night. Hugs, love, and many blessings too. Sue M.(Florida, USA)❤️🙏🏻🥰😘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❌⭕️

And what matriarch would not want to make sure that anything that put a calf at risk was ever going to have a second chance to do so? The fact that Tokwe wanted to head on out into the bush and put that lioness in her place, permanently, shows just how mu Khanyisa has been accepted.

Oh my gosh, Khanyisa is so pink after that rain. She really had a nice shower. And those black clouds look like more possible rain on the way (crosses fingers). The Lion had better run and keep running, for those elephants aren't about to let him get near Khanyisa. After all that milk, Khanyisa has grown big and strong -- yet the entire herd is always aware and protective of her as she is still their baby. That's the essence of being a true family. They work in sync and care about each other.

in conclusion: you have two mutually exclusive options to make sure you have the best bodyguards in the African bush:
#1 you can either do it like Kevin Richardson or Dean Schneider, raise lion cubs, become a pride member and venture out on walks with them or
#2 you can raise an African elephant orphan, ideally provide a family herd and then go on walkabouts
both require years of dedication and love. both species are very social and would accept a human in their midst. maybe the human is better off with the elephant as even a playful and careful lion might scratch/injure you unintentionally quite often while an elephant seems to be very careful all the time - unless in musth, in pain or panicking, then it might be very different but who would be their usual self then anyway?
