Topic: Assessing and improving equity in federal fishery management
Federal fishery management should be equitable. But what is equity? How do we know? Where do we start? Information gaps, capacity limitations, and fear of “doing it wrong” are real challenges. NOAA Fisheries' National Equity and Environmental Justice Strategy (2023) provides a clear vision and goals, and a recent report by the National Academies of Science and Medicine explores the issue in greater depth. This talk will offer an overview of efforts to advance equity in federal fishery management, focusing on these two resources and highlighting key questions and opportunities.
