YES no over heating, no transverse leafsprings(no cross talk) = a more plated rear end and a better automatic transmission option. A lighter exhuast system, a lithium ion battery and lighter seats equal 3750lbs(or less) and an additive can lower coolant temps for track use.
Probably not, but if you want an auto trans, the A8 is the weak point. Hopefully you get a chance to drive this car on track. Its C&D Lightning Lap time is in front of an impressive list
The stock blower does tend to heat soak, but it's a great value for the performance. Rumor is the 2023-2024 (final years) will get the 668 hp Blackwing motor
The C7 gearbox is phenomenal. Owned a 2015 Z51 and later a 2019 GS, both 7MTs. Recently traded over to a manual 2022 M3 and boy am I missing that gearbox now.
That’s odd. I had a GT350 and my trans felt way better than my buddies GS. The corvette houses the trans behind the drivers so it has way more length and play in the shifter. To me it felt decent but not as heavenly as the gt350 tranny.
I've been waiting so long to do something on the Camaro. All the super cars are nice, and even though this is the highest priced model, I've always loved the bang for your buck factor you get from a Camaro. Having owned one a few years back, I can say it was a pleasure to drive and it made me feel special every time I sat behind the wheel. Great video Dan, I hope you get a chance to test one over a longer period of time soon.
@Francois Boisvert Thanks Francois, it’s good to hear from you again. The Camaro is a car that I’ve wanted to play with for a while, but every chance I had to test it long term just didn’t pan out. I’m still glad I got to drive it because it’s one of those cars that I wanted to buy instead of my auto C7Z during that time. After driving it, I can confidently say that it fits my lifestyle more now. But I don’t know, it just makes me miss the Corvette. The grass is always greener somewhere.
That supercharger whine is 100% from the rotofab. I owned a 2018 ZL1 and the before/after difference in SC noise from the rotofab is what you were hearing.
I have one, and it's phenomenal. I've owned a lot of cars and it's by far my favorite in so many ways. The one in this video wasn't wearing the 3R's, they were the regular 3's, so a little less traction.
Same here. I went through so many cars but found the zl1 1le to be the perfect car for me. Every sports cars I've owned I've gotten rid of in two years or less. I've had my zl1 1le for three years now and don't plan to get rid of it especially if it might be the last gas powered Camaro. I even had the new GR Supra and I ditched that car in six months. The zl1 1le ruined a lot of other sports cars for me. Lol.
And watch the Z06 overheat on the track . Also the multimatic suspension is very special on the Camaro . The Camaro is a better built car for the track period.
I gotta say, this is definitely my favorite camaro to date. It’s beautiful, ferocious, and visceral. The Engine sounds awesome in this car, the 6 speed is such a nice touch in this chassis. The interior, always been a big fan of the camaro interiors. This car is a monster on the track. I’d love to drive one someday Are you, flat foot shifting???? I hear a fuel cutoff between the shifts I’d only get this car in manual. What do you feel is missing? Maybe it doesn’t remind you of the Z06 enough? It’s a bargain track car at the price point Anyways I’m off to sleep now. Beautiful car, hella quick too
@Noble Vigilance I think it’s just missing a touch of modern. Maybe more digital gauges or just a less bulky steering wheel to make it feel less like a truck and more like a car. I don’t know, something. But yeah I’m pretty sure the Camaro’s have NLS (no-lift shift) or powershift or flat foot or whatever people call it these days, just like the Corvettes. I loved that feature.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy that’s awesome the flat foot shifting, however I don’t see it as a true manual at that point honestly. And yeah hopefully the new Gen camaros will have a digital dash
It isn't just the ZL1 1 LE that's a performance bargain in the Camaro lineup. Almost every 6th Gen Camaro trim dominates in handling metrics and track times. For examples, a base SS WITHOUT the 1LE package ran the same time as an F82 M4 around Streets of Willow with Randy Pobst behind the wheel. Step up to the SS 1LE and you're looking at M4 GTS levels of overall performance for a measly $45k. The V6 1LE (FE3 suspension from base SS) runs circles around anything under $35k. The bad: worse than budget rental car interior, almost no sound deadening, crap visibility, helmet hits the ceiling, AC vents will freeze off your fingers, expensive tires, shitty clearcoat, and if you're in any trim other than the ZL1 1LE, you're going to want to replace the squishy rear cradle bushings. If you're looking for a weekend track toy, and performance per dollar is your #1 metric, the Camaro is it.
Dude was banging the gears pretty damn good on those runs. I agree regarding the interior. I think seats and steering wheel need to be more exotic looking. Like what you can get in the new M3/4.
@Thomas Williams Yes, so in Camaro and Corvettes, you don't need to lift on your shifts. They call it No-Lift Shifts and it's built into the car from the factory. Pretty neat feature IMO.
i see these at the track all the time they are starting to be as common as the 911 and still i cannot get over how much i love the zl1. i really really want a 5th gen someday because it's a little more attainable for me but damn baby ZL1 all fucking day BOWTIE TIL I DIE
Just bought a Porsche 718 GT4. Had the ZL1 1LE inbound before I changed my mind last minute. With the GT4 being so pretty and with the carbon ceramics, it’s hard to go track this artwork. I see myself getting that ZLE very soon and getting back to track work. Something about this car I just can’t get enough of. And probably will do the 10sp for the poor mans PDK.
Yea, this review needs a redo. As a former C7Z06 owner, I swapped to the ZL1/1LE simply because the Alpha chassis was much more superior be it on a back road or track days. You need to spend more time with a sorted ZL1/1LE and report back. This video seemed way too rushed. In addition, the 6MT in the ZL1/1LE is the TR6060 , the same as the one in the C6Z06 (beefed up for the LT4). It’s universally acclaimed. The TR6070 Manual in the C7 Z06 had many critics. They had to come up with ways to prevent the 2nd - 5th/7th lockouts…not ideal. With respect to brakes - I think the car you drove needed fresh pads/fluid. The one thing everyone keeps raving about this car is it’s phenomenal braking. Oh and also drive it somewhere that isn’t Florida 😂 P.s. There was no mention of the DSSV’s which makes this car elite in the handling business.
I'm guessing it's pulling timing because of the hot air intake. This is not the typical review of the car on the track. So this review is a highway pull? I'll do a review soon.
@Rahul Basu I have tried many different things from removing the hood cowl to intakes and such, nothing worked because I think that there is too much insulation in the cabin. Besides getting a larger supercharger or ported blower/pulley/tune, you’re not going to get much out of the stock setup.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy appreciate the response. And amazing content my friend. You channel is definitely underrated. Have been hooked since 2 years from the video you launched "How Fast is a Stock 650HP Corvette C7 Z06". That was one of the reasons why I got my C7 Z06

How exactly do you measure 40-100? I've been trying to do the same. Do you use a phone app? And do you just punch the pedal from 40mph roll or earlier?
@Anirban Mookherjee So all of our performance data is gathered from either a VBOX or Dragy. Both are dataloggers, the Dragy can be connected to your phone app. I have a few videos on dataloggers on this channel. The best way to get the numbers is to punch it from about 30-35 and let off after 105ish because the speedometers on cars are often a little conservative. Also punching it from 30 allows you to build boost and also negate any throttle lag.
I was in Croatia and than i have heard how the ground ist shaking..vibrating. i was thinking is a fking helicopter.but Just a Camaro flew by....can u imagine what a beast car it is......
0-60 is important for magazine racers. Real drag racers don't pay attention to that metric much because it will be drastically different on a prepped surface with a drag pack. For Mexican racers, again 0-60 doesn't matter at all, they look more for trap speeds when looking at magazine times. In real world street situations, 5-60 matters much more than 0-60 because 0-60 runs are always done with aggressive, abusive launch techniques that will seldomly be replicated on the street. Germans these days have an insane spread between 0-60 and 5-60 metrics. If you judge a car's acceleration by 0-60 times without understanding this, your knowledge of cars is not based in reality. I like this channel because it provides metrics like 60-130 which is far more telling of real world performance than 0-60.
Favor the Camaro hands down unless you can take the time to track and just not drive and do one or two pulls I do not think you can correctly evaluate the car .
