    this guy just casually held his breath for 3 minutes and 38 seconds. i swim competitively and i’m impressed.

      This is different, I can hold static for 6 mins, but when I swim, I can only do 1:30. It’s all about controlling consumption of oxygen. I bet you can easily do 3 without training if you are good swimmer.

    Thank you so much for sharing this and saving lives! I survived a shallow water blackout then sank 65'. Even when told to stop my buddy didn't stop CPR until medics arrived. I went on to get married, have 4 children and a grandson! :) I also went on to have a 32-year-long career in Policing where I was able to help others. Spread the word!!! Jonathan, Hawaii

    Christian Wodey :- Shallow water black out causes when you try to stop your breath for a longer time. It is very dangerous.
    Also Christian Wodey :-stays underwater for 3 mins 30 seconds approx.

    I don't understand the logic explained at the beginning. What's wrong with hyper ventilating? It definitely changes your O2 vs CO2 balance/ratio right? Gives you more oxygen, enough to supply your organism until your movements produce too much CO2 and you are forced to breathe, to compensate with new oxygen because the one you had, is already gone, you spent it already.
    A sequence of repetitive deep breaths does increase the quantity of O2 in your blood. Am I wrong? You can even pass out by that O2 rush xD (like the guys from Yes Theory on Wim Hof) That's why you are forced to breathe deeper and faster the more you demand from your muscles when doing exercise. They make so much CO2 that your body forces you to take more oxygen in.
    The guy in the video is a legend. Much respect. Over 3 minutes and even doing a backflip underwater on the pool floor hahah

    • @Zuconja
      @Zuconja Рік тому

      Hyperventilation expels CO2 and it doesn't increases O2. When you deplete your O2, instead of having high CO2, you have low CO2 and that won't trigger your brain so that it's time to surface and take a breath and you black out and die. Levels of O2 have no influence on triggering breathing, only levels of CO2.
      When you run, you are producing CO2 that must be expelled, that's why breathing is increased.

    • @armaansamirizvi3354
      @armaansamirizvi3354 Рік тому +6

      Nah,
      The urge to breath is triggered by Blood acidity which increases by CO2 levels.
      When you hyperventilate, you have the same amount of pO2 in your blood as normal,
      But you flush CO2 out very well,
      Thus the urge to Breath, Diaphragm spasms are subdued,
      You can continue to hold your breath past the point of O2 depletion, which you otherwise wouldn't be able to do because you would have an impulse to breath due to High CO2 levels.

    I wasn't aware of this, I'm not a pro diver, but I like to go o underwater in the summer.
    Something that I really like about it is the peace down there. Sometimes i felt like I didn't need ti breathe and stayed down much more than usual... I felt even more relaxed.
    Is that how you can blackout?
    ....the water where I dive is at least 15m deep, if a blackout would happen to me, I'll easily end on the bottom withiut anybody noticing for sure

      It's like you just wake up after being asleep, without knowing what happened in the last seconds.
      Very strange feeling.
      I passed out only once while going downstairs.... after some instants I was on the floor, with an open eyebrow, knowing absolutely nothing about what happened.
      Luckily 3 stitches were enough, but worse could happen, because you fall like a sack of potatoes.

      I'm not sure but it seems very similar to when you stay crouched for a few minutes, and then get up fast. It happens more in the summer, when temperatures are higher (and your blood pressure is lower).
      Maybe you jumped in the pool after laying in the sun for some time, and you had a pressure drop just after jumping in the pool.
      Does it make sense?
