Hello guys, we have been getting inspiration from your farming and would like to do the same; that is myself and my partner and become self sufficient on a smallholding here in Devon UK. It all looks so exciting!

Hi Katy and Devon! I'm a huge fan. So much so that I've decided this is how I want to spend the next 10 years. I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have Crop Kings working on a quote with your set up, and would love to ask you a few business related questions if there is a direct way to message you. Thank you so much for sharing your life and expertise with the rest of us :)
Hi Kelly! That's great and thank you very much! We both really enjoy this job, and love the CropKing greenhouse. If you'd like to message us on instagram it is homegrown.passion and I could give you an email address there as well. Who are you working with at CropKing?
First, thank you for all the information you give, I learn a lot from the two of you's. When it comes to watering what is your schedule and when watering are you using a drip, if so how many gallons per minute, or a full flood fromthe pump?
New subscriber here! Thank you so much for your very informative videos. I'm setting up my hydroponic system in a month. Planning to set-up bato buckets too. I only have small space though :( I'm learning a lot from you. Thanks 💕
Awesome and thank you! That will be very nice to have. The buckets are fun and you can grow so many things in them. I’d love to have my own little system at my house someday. Good luck!
Hey guys! Great video as always! When you said you plant 6 seeds per Bato Bucket of Beans, do you let all of them sprout, or do you pull any to save room? I'm going to make another stab at beans (I think I was running EC to high in earlier ones, but we'll find out) and I wanna make sure I'm not overdoing it per bucket...I do have proper lighting if we did do the 6, so would be able to sustain them.

Hi Devon, I'm completely new to this, I have been growng microgreens under lights in my office and am thinking of an NFT system under lights also. I have 4 raised veggie beds here in my garden in sunny South Africa but the heat in summer just kills the veggies no matter how much they are watered. I am looking at growing using a dutch bucket system under 40%shade netting. What I need to know is what make/model etc. are your emitters, they look really good. I probably can't get them here in SA but can try and get them sent from overseas. Thanks for really great videos they are super informative, I am a young 71years old and looking to try new ideas, Regards RupertTownson
Hi Rupert, sounds like you have a nice set up. We also have to shade our plants in the greenhouse during the summer months, but we use a shade paint that eventually wears off. It works really well, and it gets pretty hot in the greenhouse. I'm not sure if it's as hot as South Africa though, but I'd imagine shade cloth would help a lot. I will post the link to where we purchased our system. Thank you so much! -Devon www.cropking.com/catalog/bato-bucket-systems-supplies
Is it necessary to add or provide a timer to the drip system , Can't we simply control the drip flow using valve or flow controller and make the nutrient supply 24x7 in drops...

Hello again. I am looking at buying a small indoor growing shelf with a build in light above it. I can get it with either a T5 florescent, or with a led light stripe. I am leaning towards the led but am just wondering what your opinion is on the two types. Thanks again.
I have florescent for my little system, but I had that for a few years already to start my garden seeds. It works fine, but I'd probably get an led now, especially since that is what all of the indoor hydroponic operations use.
Thanks, was trying to figure the best configuration for my house. I have 10 bato buckets. What was the size of the drainage pipes again (6 inch?) and the main tube for the drip emitters are 8mm?
the bato buckets are drained into a 1.5 inch pipe. Doug drilled holes to accept the bato bucket drain i think they are 3/4 inch. main tube for the drip emitters are 1/2 (black pipe)

You said you don't recirculate the nutrient solution once it drains. No sure if I am missing something but is there a lot of nutrient/water waste or do you only pump the solution as needed where you really don't use that much solution when watering?
DEVON would one bag each of the perlite and vermiculite do/fill 12 bato buckets??? I just bought enough buckets and piping to build a 12 bucket system and i,am wondering how much i need to order..thanks
Don,t forget me...hehe i started my dutch bucket system.i used 2 gallon buckets from lowes...a dozen of them for now.my system will be solar powered i have a 12 volt pump and 12 volt timer and a solar panel kit from harbor freight to power it.
Thank you! The emitters are made to not clog in the growing medium. We do have issues when the plants get bigger and their roots sometimes grow around the emitters. We just pull them out and remove the roots from around them.
So the nutrients aren't drained back to the tank? Isn't this expensive? I set my up to drain back to the tank, was that a mistake? I have not planted anything yet, just getting everything set up.
Yes they are drained back to the tank. The nft system is a recirculating system the bato buckets are drain to waste. It’s not expensive because we monitor the discharge and make sure only a small amount or nothing at all comes out after a watering

Good day, very inspiring… I’m about to start a small bato system: is your greenhouse heated in winter?
yes, we have a fully automatic environmental system in the greenhouse.

How often do you water?
Does your pipe get clogged if you add in the Perlite directly in the bucket?
No the elbow drains keep the growing medium in the bucket, but we sometimes have to dig roots out when the plants get really big.
Wet the Perlite with the Nutrients first then it wont be Dusty pouring it.
It's too hard to wet it in the bag and then it gets too heavy for me. I just wear a mask. Merry Christmas!
