    Hi Devon and Katy!
    Unfortunately plastic is necessary for business. I'm all for limiting plastic packaging when ever we can.
    We have been growing in the NFT system 3 weeks now. The plants are growing leaps and bounds!

      I hope we are able to use something bio friendly that can also keep the produce nice and fresh. We've tried a couple "green" bags, but the veggies wilted fast. That's so great about your NFT system. I'm thinking I'm going to put mine in the window sill soon to see how it does with natural light. Thank you!

    Hey there Devon, lovin your vids! I live In Australia and I'm gaining an Interest In growing my own produce as a bit of a hobby for home use. You mentioned Strawberries which Is something I want to grow as good ones are hard to come by. I was wondering what your system of choice would be to grow them In... NFT, Dutch Bucket, Ebb and Flow? Love your enthusiasm and calming nature, keep em coming, cheers :)

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Scott and thank you! We have tried strawberries in the NFT system and they thrived. The problem was they clogged the systems and were hard to harvest with the way our greenhouse is set up. Now we have them in buckets and they are much easier to manage. We can also keep the plants over winter this way. Hopefully soon I will show the rail system for the buckets that my dad is working on.

    It is not summer yet there - but you are already using the fans. Has it been abnormally hot - or is this normal there? Is there a way to automatically vent the main high tunnel through the roof - where all the hot air builds up? I am thinking it might pay off in terms of reduced electricity costs for the fans over the years. What sort of modification to its structure would be needed or possible for that to be done?

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  3 роки тому

      Yes we had one of the sunniest Marchs on record. It got very hot in the greenhouse a few times this spring so far. I'll be showing how we automate the high tunnel as we go. I'm not totally sure on the big plan that my dad is working up, but it should be similar on how we manage the main greenhouse.

    If height was an issue could i scrog tomatoe plants? Also i have GH micro grow n bloom mix, I'd like to go organic. Are there organic hydroponic nutrients?

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  3 роки тому +1

      I think it would work great. I’d leave a bunch of suckers on the bottom them top them. There are also determinate varieties that only get to a certain height. I’ve seen small scale organic nutrients that would work, I don’t know any brand off the top of my head. You’ll have to let me know if you scrog tomatoes.

    in the green house you all spray inseticide and fungicide for pest. If yes how often you spray.

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  3 роки тому +1

      No we don’t have to spray. We manage everything and remove plants early if they show issues or get contaminated with pests. Our main issue is aphids and if we pay attention we are able to bag up the plants with aphids and dump them out into the compost pile.

      Thank you for letting me know. I tried letting UA-cam place my ads the last few videos, but I’ll have to go in and manually adjust them. They said they will show ads to generate revenue and also not be too interruptive. If they are just showing all the ads I see on my analytics page, then I agree that it is way too many. Hi this is Farmer Chuck
      I got to say you are doing a great job. I have been growing tomatoes for years and never have seen better.
      One suggestion I have is aways when you are dealing with transplanting large tomato seedlings they like to be planted deep that way they don’t fall over and will take roots from the side. Hope this helps. Also this is a great
      way to start cuttings especially when some of the green house varieties are .50 cents a seed.
      Keep up the good work l am now going on eighty two and love watching your videos.
