Been using forscore for a few years. Have about 750 pieces of music in it. It’s so chaotic. This really helped me understand more. Now I can get this organized. Thank you!
Thanks for this vid. I have learned so much. ForScore has about a thousand functions and I've been using about ten of them. Now I can really make more of it.
This is fantastic! Thank you! I’ve been using ForScore since 2017, completely self-taught, and wish I had known many of these tips years ago! I’ll be sure to share this with my students and colleagues. Much appreciated!!
Thank you so much! It’s great to hear this helped so much! If you haven’t seen, I have a few other forScore videos that may help too, including a new one that will release later today!
Hey Josh, those bookmarks and techniques you're showing especially about first and second time endings is going to make my day! I have this stupid problem where I'm ok with 1st and 2nd time endings but more often than not I forget to go to coda. This is going to make me look less stupid, lol. Thanks heaps for the tutorial.
Hi Josh, I'm a longtime user of Forscore but there is so much in this video that I didn't know. Thank you. Can the libraries be alphabetized? I play with multiple groups. I've made each group a Library and then make setlists as needed. With 60+ libraries , it can take a minute to find the one desired. Thanks again.
Thanks! And you can put the Libraries in any order you'd like. Go to the Library menu, then tap "Edit" in the top right of that window, then "three horizontal bars" will appear on the right of each Library. Tap and hold to move a Library up or down depending on where you'd like it to go in your order. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to do that automatically, so it may take a while to initially get set up with your 60+ scores, but I'm sure you'd find it worthwhile in the end. Best of luck!
I don't personally do this. However, if you do a lot of work on your computer where you find yourself currently setting up your iPad next to your computer, then it could be worth it to just use forScore on your Mac instead. Maybe if you're doing work in a DAW or Music Notation software a lot where you want your sheet music it would be helpful. If you were looking for a good way to back up your forScore to the cloud, look here: ua-cam.com/video/Lc3b2y216c8/v-deo.html
Really nice video. But i have a question. I use a bluetooth pedal but i don’t know how to use the links with the pedal. I think it might be the possibility that the pedal could change the page or, if it detects a link, the pedal could execute that. Thanks.
When in a Setlist, tapping and holding *should work but I also struggle to get it to work that way half the time. Instead, if you tap on Edit at the top right of the Setlist, three horizontal lines will appear at the right of each song. Tap and Hold on the 3 lines to move a song up or down in the list. I find this way works much better. Hope that helps!
Great instructional! Just purchased forScore and I have a question: I made a Setlist but can't find it now. I'm in "All Libraries" and then click on "Setlists" but don't see it. If I do a search for the setlist, it comes up but I can't figure out its location. :)
Welcome to the club! Do you only have the one setlist? It could be that you’re currently in it? Trying taping “< Setlist” if you see that in the top left after you tap on the Setlist button. Or have you added anything to your Setlist yet? Do you see those scores?
@@Josh-Ring Thanks for the quick reply! I think I just figured it out... it was in another folder. I noticed one of my Setlist folders had "2 Setlists" under the name. I clicked on this Setlist and then removed the Setlist from the folder and back into the main Setlist. Lots to learn, but your videos have been helpful! Thank you!
Hi Josh, thanks for this! I was wondering how to do some of these steps with multiple scores at a time. Is there a way to import multiple pdf's into a folder? I'm a jazz pianist and sometimes singers will send me about 50 pdf's they want to choose from for a gig. I'd like to be able to select all and import into a folder for that singer. Right now the only solution I can find is to have a different library for each singer/band I play with, but that would be dozens of different libraries. Thanks for your help!
Actually what would really help is a video that starts from scratch on organizing libraries, labels and set lists. As I said, I'm jazz pianist and am particularly interested in importing large google drive/dropbox folders of music (30-50 songs). I'd like to organize by project (particular band or singers), then by sets. Thanks!
Hello Josh. Thank you so much. I just downloaded ForScore and you showed me exactly what I needed when I go and play my gigs. I love the tabs!!!!! Now my music will flow! Just one question, when I backup everything and email it to me, then I should be able to just restore that file and have everything? So basically I could open the email, point to the file and click restore? Thanks.
Great to hear! I’m so glad they’ve been helpful! For backups, here’s two links that may help. Create an archive to back up the PDF scores. The regular Backups as forScore calls them only saves the annotation and score information (not the scores themselves). Personally I save it to the cloud. forscore.co/kb/understanding-backups-syncing-and-icloud/ forscore.co/kb/backing-up/
@@Josh-Ring Hello. I wanted to thank you for showing me the information about backups. I had no idea how it worked and I would have been screwed and not in a good way had I lost my Ipad and had to rebuild. Now I'm on to the next feature of doing annotations. Thanks again!
Hey, 2 questions. Do scores saved on my iPad duplicate themselves when I open them in forScore? I use my Arbans to practice, but every day I have to scroll across to the section I was at last. Is there a setting to open the score on the last viewed page instead of page 1 every time?
Regarding your second question, have you tried using Tabs and keep the Arbanas open on a second tab all the time? I believe that's your only option to keep the last viewed page open. I'm honestly not sure about the first question. My suggestion is to ask the forScore Users Group on Facebook. Best of luck!
Hi Josh, I am a life-long musician and was stuck in IT for a few years, so I am a bit of a "Rip Van Winkle." I have enjoyed your videos on forScore and am inputting a lifetime of music into my new iPad. I noticed that I was unable to do the folders thing that you were doing in your video. I know this week is because of version updates etcetera. Are these folders that are created simply virtual folders that are viewed inside fourscore or are they tied to the file system and actually create physical folders on the drive of the host device in the four score folder? I'm just trying to get my head around how things work and I haven't been able to organize my files as I have imported them and the folders don't seem to be real folders. As a result, all of my physically imported files are in a giant Heap in the four score folder of my iPad. I think it is beginning to lead to some file systems sluggishness because I have lots of music to input. Thank you very much for your great videos they certainly saved me a lot of time me a lot of time. I'm looking to return to teach at the college level and modernizing my tools is an important step. Thanks again
Can you tell me how to pull up the volume of the metronome? When I play a youtube video the volume is normal but when I use forscore its metronome volume is very very low
Hmmm... I honestly not sure. When I use the metronome myself and put the metronome on "Audible" mode, the volume buttons on the side of my iPad control the volume of the Metronome itself. Do yours not turn it up the volume of the Metronome?
Josh, You have made an awesome video. But. . . Please, PLEASE, PLEASE consider. I am watching this video on a 27-inch monitor. It appears you are using a touch screen. My dual 27-inch desktop monitors are not touch. By the time you touch something and it changes color or something and I can find it, you have moved on by several topics. Following a cursor is easier. Even better would be an enlarged cursor that a user unfamiliar with the topic can follow. Thanks for an excellent instruction.
Yes, great idea. I was using an iPad, and I didn’t think to do that at the time. In my most recent video on Backing up forScore, I did include a big pointer/cursor to follow along that even boxed around some items when I selected them. Sorry I didn’t think of it for this video! If I ever redo this video, I’ll be sure to include that. In the meantime, something that could help is to slow down the UA-cam playback speed. Having the slower speed could give you more time to find what I’m talking about instead of having the pause or rewind as much. Sorry for the hassle!
