In this week's Sunday with Sarah, I explain why finger knitting is such an excellent activity for calming active children and I'll show you how easy it is!
It's a simple craft, but will engage a child's head and hands while leaving him or her with a beautiful and versatile knitted cord.

I've now taught all 3 grandchildren with your video! Thank you.
My daughter is autistic and she loved this!
My kids say you’re awesome! ☺️
My five year old granddaughter says “Thank you, I really enjoyed this video.” And she has been ginger knitting nonstop ever since watching. We are making a baby blanket out of a long chain of finger knitting sewed together.
I adore finger knitting! Thanks so much for this tutorial!
I saw a teacher do this years ago and forgot how it was done. Thank you! I am thrilled to see your tutorial! The children became very proficient with their finger weaving and was a great exercise for focus.
My five year old just learned the 4 finger knitting today. I was amazed at how fast she caught on. Needless to say I can’t wait to show her this method. It will be a snap and give her some diversity in her initial knitting experience. Thank You 🙏🏻😊
Thank you, Sarah. I am sure my son will love it. I already do!
Yes, some spring songs please. And thank you for the tutorial.
I haven't seen this method before, I've only been teaching the single finger wrap around then bottom yarn over the top. This is so much easier for the younger ones to understand! Especially with the bird and fish anecdotes! Thank you, I always love watching your weekly videos :)
Something the children can do with their knitting is shape it into a little animal, sew it to secure, and add eyes and other features from bits of felt.
What a great idea!
Both my daughters age 4 and 7 just learned after I taught them using this video and I am so thankful to you! Easiest explanation by far
This is great! I will be using this. Thank you!
I loved it!!! I will practice first, before I present the kids.
It is really beautiful!
Thank you so much for this tutorial
Awesome, we need to try this soon! Thanks!
This might even work for my three-year-old! Thank you!
👧i started watching your channel today and my child is getting to know how to knit thank you so much 😇😘😘😸
This is so exciting! Thank you so much! I can't wait to do this with my child.
Always a joy to see your ideas! I am subscribing today.
Ove never seen this method. I'm familiar with the 4 finger method, but this seems like a great way to get my younger children started. Thank you!
Awesome tutorial, I also would love Spring Songs! Thank you!
Thanks, Casandra! I was hoping to make a video of spring songs this season but I'm a little behind. It unfortunately might have to wait for next year!
Thanks for the clever directions. Much appreciated.
love this!!! Will be applying for my Co-op Group and can't wait to share with my kiddos!!!
Thanks for sharing. I will be helping at a craft fair for kids soon and this is something even the young ones can do!
THANK YOU. My kids always need help starting, and you're the only video that seems to match their school
😅
Great tutorial. Thank you!
Hardly wait for the next video♥️
I used this video with my nana at x,as and finally found it again amazing and easy to do
Fantastic ❤
Thank you so much! I love this and am about to start teaching her this. I so love your channel and watch and rewatch your videos. We will be making your bread and stone soup recipe each week. :)
Wonderful! Let me know how it goes!
where can I find the bread and stone soup recipe please?
Thank you so much Sarah:)
love it
You are so good I can't believe I even subscribe for the first time
Thank you, I've been trying to do this for two weeks from another showing. Now I think I'm ready to teach it to some 3rd graders.
greeting from South Korea. It is a grt tutrial. I'll try to do this with my daughters. tks.
Thank you! I'm 28 & for some reason I'm very bad at crocheting and knitting, even finger knitting. This is way easier and satisfying, just what I needed for my cup holder to protect my table from tea stains.
This is a lovely idea, I will try it with my 5 year old. I was thinking about trying to teach her to knit but I was worried it's a little bit complicated. I was then thinking French knitting, I have one of those little dolls. I think I will start with this, she will love it. Beautiful yarn too.
THIS IS CROCHET!!!
Omg this works take my advice my child said so it is is long!I swear they will not stop!
A rope belt or headband would be a great to make!🎉thank you
Your awesome 👏
Impressive
And I can't wait for the 4 finger knitting!
Coming soon! ;)
My daughter says “thanks, I love it!” She’s been enjoying finger knitting
Salamat bes, kailangan ko to❤️
Thanks!
Sweet.
Too too good dear madam :-)
Thaaaaaaanx
❤
Awesome video I wish I had yarn you should see my nanny nit and my grandma nit
My granddaughter finger knit a beautiful line with an entire skein of your multicolored chunky yarn. It’s yards and yards long and we are having fun imagining how she will use it.
Thank you so much, it is so calming for me as well. Some children wanted to use it to tie or decorate their hairs.
Cool
I did this with hundreds of K and Grade One public school kids. Completely okay to pull knitted creations apart and start over. Empower kids to enjoy the pulling apart. They like creation~destruction and being in charge of this. Also it saves yarn. The main value is hand-eye coordination and self-esteem. Fingerplays can come next for five year olds. More complex finger knotting and needle knitting usually come next for Grade One.
🎉let's do more
Nice
my six year old says - you're right, it's really fun!!
Thank you so much for this video Sarah! I’ve always wanted to know how finger knitting is done.
Will you also be showing us how to bake bread with children? Thank you
Hi Nayiri! I recently made a video on bread baking with children, you can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/GuqEz8Csna8/v-deo.html
Great tutorial! I tried a thick softer yarn and you really can see the individual stitches. What yarn are you using here? You can really see each stitch well. TIA
Thank you Sarah this has really helped me xx
Thanks for this, Sarah! What's the yarn you use in this video?
where could i purchase that yarn? it looks like thin roving? Ets.y?
How do you finish it when you cut the yarn at the end?
Hi Nicole! You can just cut the tail, insert it into the last stitch loop and pull it tight.
Hiii, do you have a video showing how to roll yarn into a ball from start to finish. I always get mines knotted
Hi, could you share a link to buy that yarn online from you ?
I wish you let us know which video continues with the next step of teaching how to finger knit. I would like to know how to turn and connect to the next row!
How do you tie off?
Hi, how do you end the chain?
Hello.. is it suitable for 3.5 year old
HEY I did a full ball or wool what can I do
How do you tie it off
Do you have some spring time songs for us ?
Hi Valerie! I was hoping to release a video soon with some spring songs and verses but we're running a little behind. It sadly might have to wait for next year!
How do you end it? Does it tie? I’m not a knitter, obv.
Have you found out yet?
How do you add a second row?
How do you end it so it doesn’t unravel?
Do the students each need their own ball of yarn?
Hi Caitlyn! Yes, each child will need their own supply of yarn, but how much they need just depends on how long they want their final strand to be.
Oh ok
Can you make a muffler plZ
How to end the knitting ?
sorry, does anyone know how to tie it off?
i made one 8 1/2 metres
TITLE=Finger Knitting with Children ME=LOL I DIDINT SEEE THE FULL VIDEO!!!
I live in Germany. And planning to send my daughter to Waldorf school next year. The thing which makes me worry is that she doesn’t have patience at all. Things that takes time make her angry. And then she start kicking the floor and doesn’t want to play anymore. I don’t know that Waldorf school will accept these kind of behaviour in child or not?
Makea bracelet
So I need help

Great video but shame there is no guidance on how to finish, complete it, tie it off??
Braided into a horses mane.
