Monsoon in the OG risk of rain (and risk of rain returns) is so much more difficult than RoR2's monsoon. It just ramps it up to eleven, you can't spend excess time on a stage on the first loop otherwise you'll find yourself running away from a 60+ enemy deathball, which in turn means you'll need to spend longer on the stage resulting in more enemies spawning. It's brutal
Had 60+ enemy death ball on "easy" (Still under 5 mins on time) on the second level, was doing no damage to them as I fired/alpha struck as Commando. Seems off.
It was also because you had to kill every enemy to continue. In RoR 2 and this you can leave the hard (non-boss) enemies behind, but having to kill every enemy that spawns on the teleporter event meant you were definitely gonna feel the difficulty.
I think the biggest learning curve coming from ROR2 to RORR is realising that you can’t substitute healing for mobility in Returns like you can in ROR2. The 2D nature of Returns limits you to two directions of movement, killing clumps of enemies often involves having to double back on yourself through the group and can result in damage which would be avoidable by strafing in a 3D environment. Unfortunately RORR feels much more rng dependent for items which doesn’t help when you need some form of consistent healing
The item is RNG. But a lot of it is just game knowledge, like knowing when to run and how to dodge. Flying enemies in this game are the absolute worst tho.
Stage traversal is definitely one thing I wish they had improved rather than preserving. Especially the rope-to-rope jumping sometimes being necessary. Definitely have to re-learn how to play this. I forgot how brutal the original was. I also feel like they greatly reduced loot spawns. I remember them being a lot more plentiful.
"I forgot how brutal the original was." for what it's worth, Risk of Returns is actually waaay harder than RoR1. Dunno if they've changed the scaling or something but it's way more brutal than RoR1.
Idk what they did but damn your right my main killer are the ror1 elites volitle and speedy (yellow and orange) kill me so much since I like playing acrid :(
I’m actually finding RoRR way easier than RoR1. I’ve made way more progress in one day of playing it that in the original. Maybe it’s the alternative controls and the sprites being more readable.
@@Alienoiable the main reason for that is probably the addition of new enemies and new behaviours for existing enemies, like theres much more threats while in the air unlike in rorr like flying lemurians being able to attack without being on the ground
Some of the elites in RoR1 get additional abilities as time goes on. Volatile elites launch homing missiles, Frenzied elites teleport and Leeching elites heal nearby enemies. On Monsoon they all get these abilities at the start of the game.
As someone who played a lot of ror1, I can not express to you how massive of a visual overhaul they have done to the game. I think they just started from scratch, no reused assets. It’s pretty amazing. And tons of new content as you said, but there is also an option to disable new content and play the way the first game played. Side note, they made the boss fight more difficult in the most wonderful way. Super shocked the first win I had.
The skins are likely because of multiplayer. There's probably more to unlock maybe? But having multiple skins helps people find who's who and ads a little but of flavor!
Ah yes woolie, you get to experience explosive elites now, it's one of the elite types that they didn't carry over to ROR2. Also interesting how Greater Wisps seem to have a set attack range like the small Wisps in this, their attacks had limitless range and were hitscan in the original. Just like you said, there's so many things that vets can look at and point out the difference with the original. Edit: Lemurians can climb ropes now, nothing is sacred anymore.
I believe Huntress is the only one that changes attack "side" based on where enemies are, all the others need you to be facing the direction you want to attack
Commando's special is different with enemies on both sides but I think that's the only non-Huntress move that is specifically different based on enemies positions.
The very first thing I’m doing tomorrow is buying RoRR. I’m considering doing it before I even leave for school so I don’t have to wait for it to download. I just know the game will be awesome. I forgot just how good the music is.
@mlalbaitero i said rip bc rorr launched at 2:00 and they said they were gonna download it before school and at least in canada school starts a like 8:00
I'll keep it a stack, RORR deserves to be held up as a monument of Dev's love for a game. It is gorgeous. Beautiful new art style that still pays deep respect to the original. The fact that they keep the old music with fresh remastering could not have been a better choice (with a couple sneaky new tracks tucked in there, as far as I've heard so far) while also pushing the original design of the game to new heights by adding in beloved mechanics from RoR2. (Survivor alternate abilities.) Everybody I've tried can attack while moving (good change) and the preservation of old items and the addition of new ones is a delight. It feels like rediscovering RoR1 all over again. And, of course, the final boss fight. Providence is classic as ever but there's some new surprises to be had. The credits tied it all together for me and had me sitting through the whole thing. The credits track is incredible. I also want to just call out that after beating Providence, the music stops and it just *rains*. Sent chills down my spine. Amazing game, I'll be spending plenty of hours here.
Most people don’t know this, but one of the biggest issues with the original ror is that by the time you reach the 40 minute mark the game’s engine could not handle whats happening and usually results in crashes
Was replaying ROR classic in anticipation and yeah, the game scales REAL fast. So ROR 1 feels far more punishing without all the RNG mitigation available in ROR2 Speaking of RNG mitigation, I was kinda hoping printers and scrappers would make it into RORRRRRRR, cause they would help ease the difficulty but I also expected them to not get backported
Well there's a drone scrapper that scraps your drones into items. The one I found gave only greens so it's pretty good. Finally a reason to buy drones.
It's really enjoyable to see Woolie struggle on RoR1 because movement is way more limited so you gotta really think about where you go and use ropes. I got jumpscared when a lemurian used a rope, it's joever.
With balista, if you are moving, the shot will always go to the nearest enemy like your normal attack. If you stop moving, it will go in the direction you were moving last. There's a lot of funky stuff about animations and the way your survivor moves compared to RoR1. Not bad but different.
With all of huntress’s attacks, if there is no enemy at the same level as you, her attack will go the way that you are running. Otherwise, even if an enemy is far away, it should shoot towards them if they are at the same level. But based on my gameplay, it seems the game is a little picky about what counts as being on the same level as you, which makes it feel janky.
Me and my friend lost it when you were in the Gearbox stream LMAO. As someone who's only played ROR2, RORR was... interesting. Its a lot more difficult than Risk of Rain 2 imo, but so fun. Providence Trials are also really cool.
Game looks incredible as someone who’s been following ROR since the first game. It looks how I remember it looking to me when I first played in middle school
Yeah, from what i remember, ror1 scales roughly twice as quickly as ror2, it's insane trying to stay ahead of the curve with how big the stages are. And i dunno if it's still like this, but the fact that you have to kill every enemy in a stage before moving on could sometimes mean a post teleporter game of hide and seek trying to find the one enemy you missed, wasting huge amounts of time.
ROR1 had no mercy. Time was SUPER important. You could get away with spending extra time on stages in 2, but in 1 if you got lost, that could cost you a run. With fewer item spawns as well....RORR is going to be brutal. I can't wait.
not being able to turn while holding the shoot button is a major issue for me, it doesnt feel natural as well as the auto shooting the other way from where im holding. controlling the character just feels...bad which is not a good thing

@stonaraptor8196 the skill expression in ror2 was never about aim, it was movement and prioritization, and then kept adding things to make the game a cakewalk.
@@stonaraptor8196 lmao ror2 is a cakewalk. you dont even need to aim just click and things die. ror requires you to actively dodge and think about your placement in order to survive
@@toastedt0ast878True but also there is a lot more rng shenanigans in RoRR, especially with the more aggressive scaling and teleporter spawns make or breaking early game. Hell some TP placements have them on a 5 ft wide ledge and ALL the enemies and boss are gonna spawn there. It is basically an instant loss if you don't already have a nuke build.
Yo have you heard of the secret character robomando? It’s a whole process to unlock him but he’s a lil windup toy commando robot. He can open chests for free
11 minute magma worm its crazy, this game hard asf 😭 imagine rally point delta 11 min and a magma worm spawns and its a lot harder to dodge attacks in rorr then ror2.
Idk if it's because I'm used to playing Glass + Infusion in RoR1, but I'm finding Returns pretty hard lmao I played for like three hours yesterday and didn't manage to complete a single run haha
I've been having so much trouble with this game in comparison to the first one. Don't get me wrong it's a lot of fun but on my best runs I've only been able to get as far as temple of the elders

yeah already thinking of refunding. I love RoR 2 for it's combat. RoR 1 has none of that, doesn't even have aiming lmao.
Does this game have controller support? I won't buy it if it's only the same controls as the original
yes but it prompts you on launch if you want "ror2 controls" so lots of people ignorantly choose 'yes' and it makes you awkwardly use a cursor.
@@haiperbusclassic or modern i think. I use controller and i don't think those options exist outside MnK.
since they fixed the universal coding for consoles update , when do they get the new dlc ?will it be the same time as the Pc version ?
Yo have you heard of the secret character robomando? It’s a whole process to unlock him but he’s a lil windup toy commando robot. He can open chests for free
My fav thing so far is that Sniper fucking SLIDES now so is far safer when changing up a shot
Oh man, IIRC you do NOT need to stay near the teleporter while it's charging.
14:23 I’m sure you know this now but that was an imp not Harry Potter with the invisible cloak
This game fucking slaps dude
Agreed. I just beat it on huntress rainstorm.
@@plantplayer303 Yeah bro I played for like 10 hours and I’ve only beat it once 💀
"Imma use gold huntress" ... Whos gonna tell him?
So happy the game came out on my birthday! Best b day ever
You have the same day of birth as my Dad. Tough he turned 55 yesterday.
Shoutout to the guy who typed in the chat even tho there was no stream
How do we get a wider view on the screen so we can see far more ?
this really brings me back, can't wait to play this
Bought rorr and honestly it's been pretty fun so far.
My favorite is huntress right now.
Huntress is strong. Just beaten the game with her for first time.
11 minute magma worm its crazy, this game hard asf 😭 imagine rally point delta 11 min and a magma worm spawns and its a lot harder to dodge attacks in rorr then ror2.
The Huntress shooting is the same as in the first instalment
Streamer read ability text challenge difficulty level: Impossible
I literally will implode. I need this in my bloodstream NOW.
YOU ARE THE TUTORIAL WOOLIE WTF!
I wish they kept the design of magma worms a little bit closer to the original i dont know why but it feels off xD
I've been a supporter of Risk of Rain. If you are a fan of rogue-like games, then support the whole franchise. It's amazing.
When it starts raining again 😟😟
This game is AMAZING
RoR 1 was already good, but the remake is on another level
Clearly bro never played huntress in ror1 lmao
? wdym
Idk if it's because I'm used to playing Glass + Infusion in RoR1, but I'm finding Returns pretty hard lmao
I played for like three hours yesterday and didn't manage to complete a single run haha
I've been having so much trouble with this game in comparison to the first one. Don't get me wrong it's a lot of fun but on my best runs I've only been able to get as far as temple of the elders
Aint no way this man has played 17 hours of ror1 😭 good bideo tho
LOVE THE FIRST HAME
New ror 2 dlc hype tooo
Anyone know if this is coming to Console ?
Daaamn i Love this game so much , i mean the first version, that was really really hard game
what kind of hacks is he using where the magma worm doesn’t always lock on and hit him no matter how fast he moves??
Forgot the 'Vs' in my search but found an interesting channel.
a great thing it shouldnt crash as of with the original game made in game maker, taht game crashed a lot of times if you had thousands of enemies in screen
That music theme is from Terraria !
It definitely feels like Ror1 with a hint of Ror2 influence
The fact this isn't on the main consoles makes me so sad.
this game is WAYYYYYYYYYYY harder than ror2 holy i was not ready.
