Yep...they both sound like a Strat!
Hard disagree 👎😝
Fender has more tone😊
You can hear what u wanna hear even if it's not there.❤
Both great! I’d take the squier personally (more versatile due to higher output and more top end) but the 63 sounds more mellow and classic. I heard sounds coming from the 63 that definitely reminded me of some favorite old recordings. Great video!
Play the squier through a bad monkey and the 63 through a centaur, try to match the sounds perfectly, and break the internet 😂
Doesn’t it hurt, even just a little bit, to realize that Squier sounds every bit as good as the 63’? Tone is in the hands my friends. Back when I was starting out, playing Squier’s, all I wanted was a high end strat. Now I’m playing one, and wanting another Squier. Crazy. 🤷♂️🎸
Nah, Id still want the 63
closed my eyes and only a couple of pickup/combinations sounded slightly different. tonally theyre ridiculously similar. amazed. we listen with our eyes all too often!
The ‘63 is just a bit more “round”, with a little less top end but…what the heck, the FSR sounds phenomenal! Wow, it will be my tenth Strat but I want it!!!!😅
It also comes down to the player. If either one was your main guitar, you would certainly know what settings you wanted to use on the guitar and the amp to get what you wanted out of it. Of course, all things being equal, everyone would choose the 1963. It is much more nuanced; however, it’s hard to beat the value of that Squier. Good video.
Both sound phenomenal! Vintage has a warmer sound, but i can't say one sounds better than the other! Cheers !
Totally agree 🎸🚀
I prefer the vintage Strat, but not by a huge amount (just lower the pick ups in the Squire, and they’ll sound even more similar!)
Man, both sound really great. The Squire was quite impressive, but what matters most is that from an audience point of you you realize only a part of what’s making up the whole guitar. As a player, you feel much more and a certain guitar that “fits” you gives you more room or ability to express yourself so it’s each and everybody’s choice. Great video! …and of course with a superb playing like yours you could make anything sound great!
How can it be slab and 63 ? I thought the veneer boards began in august 62.Has the neck been changed?
This is true. I was thinking the same thing
How is the playability of the squire? Yes it sounds great especially considering the price, but how comfortable is it? What’s the quality and feel of the neck and frets?
Send me your Squier neck and I’ll make it feel like a 60 year old guitar. Rounding the fretboard, and even sanding and naturally refinishing a neck is accessible to almost anyone. I still want other Tele sometimes. But my Classic Vibe Squier Tele is so good now that I’ve done the above mentioned customizations that really I could only justify another for a different neck profile (I’d rather have a V) or to add in a Thinline. Squiers are so stinkin ’ good and so inexpensive that you can mod, adjust and relic with minimal concern.
I want a vintage Strat as a bucket list thing to own!!! But gotta say that Squier Strat held its own there!! Cheers guys 🤘🤘🤘
Totally agree! Thanks a lot guys 🎸🚀
Both sound good but I slightly prefer the sound of the Squier, but what do I know 😅
They are really close in tonal capacity, with some minor tweaks you can make those Squier’s sound really great . I know , I own an Indonesian made infinity from about 20 plus years ago ! I added a full Wilkinson loaded pick guard as purchase from the internet years back & some “ Heavy Bottom” Ernie Ball strings ( slinky style) and did a proper setup on it , pickup & intonation set to my liking & I’ll tell you what , “ Little Blue “ Cranks it out properly. Lots of my friends cannot believe I have less than $300 American Dollars into it for how well it sounds & plays & stays in tune . Thanks for sharing this video and Rock on ….😎👍
Awesome Demo the original sounds better imo, but the squier is great value. ❤🎸
My main strat is a classic vibe. They're incredible for the price. That 63 does sound sweet though
Exactly! Doesn’t need to cost a million to be a decent guitar… learned that through giving up too many cheaper guitars for the “better” ones… the ones I want back are the cheaper ones!
The squier sounded like it needs slightly (and i mean slightly) better/fatter pickups, otherwise the 63 didn't sound that much better imho. But i bet the 63 felt that much better! And of course the mojo of the 63' is where its at.
Vintage guitars aren't for me, but i get why so many prefer these old guitars. They affect you differently and inspire you. Yes, the mojo, aka the psychological effect.
Holy hell, I think the Squier sounds slightly better for the exact differences you said. I’m shocked !!!!
They both sound great. I have two 60s classic vibe strats but i still want a an original.
I think the Squier would sound even closer and less modern if those pickups were lowered. They seem quite high. 7/64 on the bass side and 5/64 on the treble side at the poles with the string pressed down on the last fret.
I hear a certain type of tone from the 63. I had a custom pickup set wound to achieve a similar sound from my american strat. I have to admit that the squire does sound quite good though especially for the price. Nice playing btw.
Listening once . First impression the Squire to my ears had more mid range, and the 63 more mid scooped .
But both sounded great. Great playing .
They sound like Strats. There are nuances with each, but not enough to say there is a massive shift. I imagine the biggest difference is the feel. One is 60 years older than the other.
The guy behind the strat is what makes it sound amazing, I would be willing to say you are a fantastic player.
Here's my 2 cents on this notorious topic. People who mainly ask this question, are people who started out and played with Squiers for years and don't know if it's worth it to get a fender strat. I started on Squiers and played them for years, but everything changed when I got a Fender. The shape, the feel and the fretwork, just make you itch to play and WANT to play all the time. I think rather than waste your time and money going from squier to squier to eventually get a fender, just get the Fender; It's inevitable. The biggest difference I found was for some reason, I always want to play when holding the Fender, but the Squier...you have to put in the work. Fenders are like butter and honestly play themselves.
I’d still take the 63 Vintage Strat that guitar is a gem. The Squire sounds good. It does make sense the 63’s pickups have aged and are less hot as single coils are known for as they get older with time
The price difference is astronomical, but the sound difference between these two is night and day. That 63 has the mojo.
The what ? 🤣🤣🤣
The difference is really big to my ears. I'd be quite happy with the old worn out one. The Fender sounds like a relaxed voice. The Squier sounds more hysterical. Like a high strung voice. To me.
You wouldn't flip it would you 😂
Mannnnnn i want that amp. No doubt its next in the tonemaster range surely
Hey chris what amp and stuff u using its killer
Chicago Music Exchange is the exclusive US retailer for these. They confirmed for me that the electronics, including pickups are identical to the normal 60s classic vibe. The aesthetic is the unique feature and maybe the neck
Honestly I believe it has a lot to do with the pick up height. Your vintage has a lower pick up height, which makes the output sound lower than the Squier.
Both sounded great! Awesome playing! I'm definitely on a Squier budget vs a real vintage budget.
Great video Chris I've got a 2009 classic vibe 60s it plays far better than guitars 4 times as much the pickups sound amazing have a lovely bank holiday weekend mate
What I think would be interesting is how they compare unplugged. My vintage 62 , compared to my 87 American standard and 13 American deluxe , is louder, sustains longer, and by far resonates more. Old wood makes a difference for sure. Plugged in , it has a more open/airy, organic, harmonic sweetness that the others lack. Great video.
Man! I would absolutely buy it. I just have a MIM strat with Jimmy Vaughn pickups. Lol with the Stevie Ray neck.
I had the chance to buy one of the '63 slab strats way back in the late 80's for $1100...but I chose a G&L legacy plus a Fe4nder Twin for the same money, was I wrong to do this? well it suited my purpose at the time and I obtained a brilliant sound for the same money, value!
The Squier is closer to SRV's tone on his first ACL appearance.
the vintage one ...oooh yes ....for those who can unterstand it :-)
Most the difference I hear could likely be attributed to the pickups being adjusted higher in the Squier
Sound's good, feels it, at live show's performance 's, tours
Chicago Music Exchange has those…i believe they worked with Anderton’s on those guitars.
Great playing, Chris! Let me ask: which model exactly is this Squier?
Thanks a lot mate, here is a link to this guitar for full information: tinyurl.com/5dt9wkah 🎸❤️
@@PedalPawn thanks man!
I think with vintage guitars it’s gonna come down to it’s feel in your hands 90% of the time
👍🇦🇺
some of the difference in output and treble may be that the pickups in the vintage one have demagnetised a bit over the years, especially if it had been leant up against amps a lot (in the magnetic field of the speakers).
vintage strats and tele's are cool but just throwing it out there these classic vibe guitars are truly awesome. Squire is definitley starting to make in my mind at par with the MIM fenders sometime even better.
sound similar, feel different. perfect agree 👍
faaantastic! subscribed! can you please make short video comparing same guitars but without post maching vol. levels...just straight basic plug A to B! great content, thanks!
Literally insane, way to go, ignorance is blindness 👍✌
Nobody asked the very important questions: since it's a SRV Squier does it have baseball bat neck and jumbo frets??? Without it it's a no show!
Great comaprison! The pickups on the classic vibe strats are awesome!!! Not a big fan of the necks though. Bit too thin and glossy for my liking.
Awesome video, but would you recommend the squier over a new fender that is still more expensive but isn't as worn in as a vintage fender?
The vintage one has better character to the sound. It has the grit and depth you need for blues and rock ‘n’ roll. The choir was clear and clean, and with some effects can give you a nice modern tone, but the vintage is definitely the winner.
They both sound great to my ears. The '63 sounds a bit more seasoned and well-behaved, whereas the CV is a roudy school boy.
Same with my Vintage Strat. Loser out Put. It's the Same with my New USA Fender Strat. They out put is many More. But I love it with the lower out Put ./ lowerPU's .
I bought a Squier Classic Vibe 60's Strat in 2014. I spent the $800 that I saved over the American Standard to purchase p.a. speakers that I needed. After installing a better bridge (Wilkinson $35) the tone gained more lower mids due to the steel block. To this day I have no desire for a more expensive Strat.
I'm surprised by the small tonal difference between the two, but I own a Squier CV70 and I know very well that they are very good guitars (but they always need a proper setup and wiring upgrade). Anyway, I'd like to underline that, the 1963 pickups are not wired with a middle RWRP pickup, all the 3 pickups have the same polarity and the same wiring direction. While the Squire and all Strato from 80 have a middle RWRP pickup. I personally hate the RWRP configuration, because it kills the tone in positions 2 and 4, the advantage is that they do not hum anymore, but this silence cost the presence of a lot of mids and difficulties in having a balanced equalization between the 3 pickups. You can clearly hear the difference at 7:41 when position 4 is activated and it is without any doubt darker than the one of 1963. I changed my Squier pickups they have been manually crafted by a luthier (they are narrower than standard Strato pickups) and I do not have the RWRP middle pickup, now position 4 on my Squier is awesome. This upgrade really transform a Strato, but no one ever talks about it.
What a fantastic video it is awesome have a good weekend
base on my Ear, 1963 is more Balance. Unlike Squier there's a section where it like boosting its sound.
Even if, i still prefer the 1954-1982 Produce Stratocaster.
Specially If Both Will Replace their Pickups with BareKnucklePickups Triptych | Trilogy 😁
This is a tough choice but I'll go with squier for economic reasons and 63 Stratocaster for coolness factor
I think the Squier needs like 10 gauge strings or even 11 gauge strings
Good shout, I’m going to film a video tomorrow using gauge 13 😅
crazy!
The 63 sounds more mellow, but the Squier sounds hotter and sharp. Would readily gig with the Squier in a heartbeat.
100% agree
The pickups in the vintage Strat are worn down - new it sounded closer to the squire. When you buy new jeans, new boots - you have to break them in. The only downer about the Squire (I don’t know this for sure) maybe a poly finish…
Add EQ to the Squire. It will be even closer to your 63.
Totally agree , eq pedals are a forgotten secret 👍
I'm sorry Chris 😕 but the squier is the winner for me! ..i own 2, great guitars and they last long, perfect for your everyday gig. Greetings from sunny 🇲🇽
Ha ha, that’s awesome mate, great guitars indeed 🎸🙌
Still you have a great investment! You rock!
Definitely nor a solid body guy here no matter strats nor teles no LPs, none of the others , but the differance to me here is priceless, dont care how much more. Difference is difference, prıce is a different issue
To my ears there is a HUGE difference between the two. The classic has a bit more bite to the tone and the Squire is smoother and has a broader range. There’s definitely something magical about the 63 Strat though it doesn’t always come across until you pick one up. I have my grandpa’s 1963 Strat and before that was handed down to me I picked up a classic vibe Squire Strat because I loved the tone so much. They’re certainly different guitars with different tonalities and the feel makes all the difference in the world when playing them.
Interesting you start your description... it’s a 1963, holy grail blah, blah... not it feels great, sounds amazing... it’s a collectors item which is increasingly accurately replicated... if you have the money to invest, it’s an investment... if you’re a player get the best you can to suit your budget, you won’t be that far off... convince me I’m wrong
And you could always put lower output/vintage sounding pups in the new one... then it’s all down to the pedal (and “mojo”)...
quick question... who owned SRV’s #1 before Stevie? Don’t know, clearly didn’t imbue them with magic vintage powers.
The player makes the guitar not voodoo witchcraft... good name for a pedal tho
Get an 83 JV Japanese squier. They're the daddies.
I totaly understand the magic behind original Strats..i would love to play one some day... But if we break it down it is what it is ...an old scratched piece of wood...and with this in mind i can not understand the collectors prieces. 😅 My main guitar is a Squier CV 60s strat from the older chinese run with alder body and rosewood fretboard. I just changed this ugly pseudo "tortoise" pickguard to a nice mint green one...and wow....that changed the sound drasticly....just jokin, it was just for looks 😂 i play it for 3-4 years now (i bought it on the used market for 260€) i only play in my bedroom so i am fine with it. And for the price i was able to buy some other guitars, pedals and amps, too.
Prefer the squier on most pickups. I have the same one and upgraded to custom shop pickups, and made it hss with a coil split. It's just ridiculous for the money
Holy grail 60's vintage just words and bullshit. I have put together strat
that sounds as good as both. There are subtle differences in all strats and they usually all sound good. And yes its in the hands period.
Cant really tell alot of difference as youtube compresses the sound but just wanted to tell yall that im happy with my $49 guitar. 😅😂😂
It doesn't have a slab board if it's a '63, the last slab board was in mid '62. So either it's a '62, or it's a veneer board. You're welcome.
The new Strat sounds like the old Strat.
Those Strats sound just like Strats.
Nice and Stratty.
The real reason to get the vintage strat is economic: it's a nearly guaranteed good investment. As for the rest - it's just what you like in feel and sound. I liked the sound of the Squire in most positions.
Ayuh, the Squier is 100% more likely to get the Charley lipstick fix than the other one.
I love my 1963 Strat, they is KillA. I m interest on Your Video. First I Must Look .I have my , From My Daddy FENDER WILLY. He play Long Time for the British Solders in the Detmold Barack. Where the British Armee live, at his time.
Money value on guitars like like so much other stuff. If you want to buy a fastback 64 Corvette in Ok condition be prepare to pay up. But why ? That car do not outperform any modern speed machines of today. It is all nostalgia, heart and human love for owning seldom and appreciated stuff. Meaning that you really are in a collector market buying these old guitars, not so much in musicians since in a studio no one would notice the difference on your melodies recorded. But you sort of said that 🙂
But then, I am like those people to, totally love to own your 1963.
If the playability is close, I'm taking Squier and $10k change.
Fair play 💯🎸
Squier all day. I love the vintage, but you could buy 20 Squiers for all your friends or students for one of the originals. And if it felt good....
The vintage strat doesn’t beat the squier as far sound goes but it sure as shyt beats a 401k or a stock portfolio.
Holy shit it sounds better than the 63 strat.
The 63 Strat sounded sweeter with the Squier sounding more brash-- not in a bad way. The Squier does get very close to the SRV tone. I would love to have the Squier SRV with a brighter tone
A great insight, thanks a lot for the comment Tim 🎸
@@PedalPawn you got it bro
The CV he is playing has Indian Laurel fretboard and stock pickups, hence the difference in tone between it and the ‘63 original. Indian Laurel is more akin to a maple (brighter) sound than rosewood (warmer). I have a first-production-run CV (with the rosewood fretboard) and I installed Van Zandt pickups and you would never in a million years be able to tell the difference between a ‘63 original and it.

Buying guitar with 60k or more for me it’s waste of money , u can have good guitar like this squier for example but buy a good amp deluxe reverb .. and a good overdrive pedal you will sound professional
Holy Grail Strat is a 1954-1959 Hardtail. That's the ultimate Guitar.
Nothing beat a worn out neck, the feel is so diffrent.
The 63 sounded more airy and had more bite, but in the room he describes the opposite. That is so funny.
I love how it says fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz fuzz back there
Slab baord stopped in mid 62. If this is a 63 then its a veneer board
The squier is now the players guitar.its the music maker.its the wallet friendly creation machine. That other guitar goes in a case and you pay off a car or part of a house or remodel or whatever. If I knew how to make 300$ pedals for a few dollars I'd be doing exactly that
Your pickups are not adjusted the same so outputs will be different. The guitars sound similar in tone.
La 63 bien sur , l''autre avec des micros 65 il son bien c'est micros.
I hate that “tone is in the hands” moniker. Your amp has a hell of a lot to do with how the guitar sounds. You’re not getting that tone out of a Roland blues cube.
Vintage 1963 100/100
