Well folks it's already brought to my attention that I've put the panniers are on backwards, how embarrassing🤦♂️😂😂😂
Easy fix though, just to swap the rear bobbin with the front one, left pannier becomes the right one and so on. The locking mechanism should be at the front. Apologies school boy error, and I didn't even notice, too much beer obviously!🤦♂️🤦♂️

Very neat installation.......I’ve just had another look at the ‘on backwards’ thing. Didn’t notice initially and it still doesn’t look that obvious !

Great to see luggage options in the SDR but the absence of quick release is really missing a trick. Having the lock inside is a pain - a faff to take them into your hotel at the end if we ach days tour.
I'm gonna wait to see the gen3 GT before making a decision on my current GT"s replacement.

If nothing else, these are great because they work with the tail tidy (i have the same one). I want to get some bags and was looking at the KTM ones, but was pretty sure the tail tidy would interfere with mounting them.
It definitely fits no problem, although a couple have brought it to my attention that perhaps the indicators aren't visible from the side, everything is fine from the rear, but will have to check that. For those that don't use a tail tidy, then everything is fine.
Those saddle backs look good, or at least as good as saddlebags are going to look on a bike like that. I also would like to get a super naked and tour on it.
Nice bike, when riding at around 140-150 km per hour, would it be a problem with these bags? Are they rated for such speed?
all fine and dandy, I just miss an overlook shots with removed cases - I wonder if the support left hanging ruins the looks or not much

Honestely, if one can tour on it, one is a happy man. Looks is secondary (at least for the touring time). After the tour, you still can re-establish the looks of the beast... ;-)

Gives you flexibility on a naked , best of all worlds really and cheaper than a SDGT 👍
Its not cheaper by the time you've added quick shifter, heated grips etc

Hi Sean and Happy New Year, I just wanted to ask you a quick question if you knew (or do any viewers know) if the tail tidy is compatible with the official KTM PowerParts pannier system for the KTM 1290 SuperDuke GT. My only concern is the clearance and does the tail tidy inhibit this? Otherwise I may be looking at this pannier system.

Could tell you for sure, but on my bike with the panniers on the indicators aren't visible from the side, so probably illegal. All pannier systems including the from SWMOTECH are designed around the original back end, so you could have problems.

I think they are a good idea for touring and the frame work can be removed when you’re not touring 😜
Yes of course! Three bolts either side and they're off if you don't fancy the looks so much without the panniers fitted.

Look pretty good and easy enough to remove when not using them, only 6 bolts. How much space is used up for two weeks worth of Y-fronts?
They are smaller so pants have to be minimal

I agree BTW with the "confusion" over the "anti-luggage on a sporty bike" hate thing - I also keep hearing how you can't tour on an MT10, but like you, I want a sporty bike that is a blast to ride, and take that touring - therefore, you need luggage for that sporty bike!! (getting a touring bike for touring, defeats the primary objective! ;) ) I'd fit the racks for a trip, and remove them again after. Like you said, it's only 3 bolts per side..

Yeah you can tour on any bike, sure if I was conquering continents I'd probably go for an adventure bike, but for a large trip once or twice a year with a handful of week enders, I'd rather slap some bags on the beast where the looks aren't so important, more so the practicality. Although I think SWMOTECH have nailed it with the stylish looks of their luggage.

I'm just over 4000km and there isn't much left on them, 5-5500km and they'll be done.

Wear from front to rear seems to be similar! Not sure yet, but great tyres for sure!
The evotech indicators. do you have the extensions in place or are they standard length
They come with standard length, with the option to extend them. Unfortunately not legal in all countries as when you add panniers, the indicators aren't visible from the side. Not a problem if you're from the UK, no one seems to care🤣
Can you answer me a question on your superduke gt? I had heard the front on earlier models was a bit.... wishy washy and not much feel. Then I heard the suspension got some upgrade on newer models. Was the just on the SD or the SDGT? Also what year did the suspension upgrades happen. I rode an several years ago and honestly the front felt horrible.

My GT was from 2017 and I got the software upgrade on the suspension (I think in 2019) but I couldn't tell the difference🤷♂️ front end on mine was great beforehand.
Maybe a stupid question, but can SW Motech not provide quick release frames like they do for other bikes? Then you can take the bags and the frames off when you get to your destination...
Yes I've had the Evo quick lock frames on other bikes, not sure why this isn't the case for this bike🤷♂️
How wide (cm) are they on the bike?
Interesting about those bolts; when I removed the rear foot legs I ordered the Powerparts cover kit. Forgetting for a second that it doesn’t fit properly, neither bolt want to go back whatever I did.
I love this bike but it’s bloody frustrating!
Yeah interesting that the bolts are the same size, but the front ones were a bit if a squeeze! All torque up fine though so all is well👍

Those i got get. Just question do you ever use 6th gear? Ive purchased the 2020 1290 SDR. Never use have used it runs smoother in 5th. Turning out be one beautiful machine! Is it true that European models have LED Blinkers? Cheers from Canada

I've rarely used 6th, not really any need under 120kph as 5th is fairly long. Yes mine has LED indicators, I was unaware that was only included for us Europeans.

Yes the 1290 gen 3 is also the best bike I have ever had & I've already had 2 gen 1s & 2 gen 2s.....but this one is on another level.....so powerful but so usable. But could you tell me where you got that decal kit?...Cheers.

Yeah seems that they haven't updated their website yet. Just click on the graphics you like from the pictures of the 2019 bike, and you can change the year. You won't see any pictures of the 2020 bike, but they do them.

I'd take the Super Duke R over the GT for touring any day. Being able to ride a lightweight bike is more enjoyable than the big GT, especially since I mostly avoid open freeways and prefer the twisty's.

Have you seen the OEM KTM paniers available in KTM POWERPARTS ? what are the differents with swmotech ?
From what I've seen they're very similar, not sure what frame they use tbh.
Why not the Blaze system to avoid having the permanent pannier frame? AMC went the same route - is it because of them being sent to you? I've absolutely no issue with that, just wondering you'd want the scaffolding.

Yes the framing is subjective, but if you don't like the look while the panniers are not in use, then its 3 bolts off either side and your back to normal🤷♂️
so...did you just leave the passenger footpeg bracket on with just 1 bolt?

Just one question can passenger sit in back with only that side bags is it hard to sit and keep the legs or is it ok 🤔

No advantage just a different provider.

Just concerned that ur turn signals won't be visible unless someone is behind you as opposed to in between behind and along side..
Yeah I'll need to take a look at that! Won't be and issue with the stock number plate holder.
I think SW Motech might have missed a trick not powder coating the frames Orange to continue the trellis frame look
Personally I don't think that would work! They thought about that and provide the crash bars on orange, but as the frame is designed to carry the panniers, perhaps not in the foreground to warranty a second colour.
Superduke GT or Superduke R? Does the lack of screen kill your neck?
No not at all I was very surprised! I even took the R on a short blast on the motorway, just out of interest and it has less turbulence than the GT. Maybe the headlight does a good job of cutting through the air🤷♂️

In the uk it is illegal not to be able to see indicators from the side. Not sure about Germany though.

Ok it’s not that pretty Shaun but it is a great way of hauling your gear on a great bike and when at the hotel bin the bags and burn up those curves mate .whats the back end look like with just the racks is it leave able all year round or will you just fit the racks for your trips keep up the great videos bud 👍👍👍
I don't think I'd call any panniers pretty! it's all about being able to take a few sets of under crackers with you on your travels.
Well they make the naked a tourer, well I wouldn’t of known they were on backwards. You can now go and test them out by filling up your fridge with beer 😂. When is your end can arriving
Yes fridge is now full, and the panniers on the right way, although like you said I never noticed myself🤦♂️ Yes end can is now in the post, I've only been waiting over three months!!!!!! It won't be staying on long though, as I've now got something else coming👍😜

Ich stehe kurz davor mir auch die 2020er Superduke r zu kaufen. Man hört immer mal wieder, dass es wohl Probleme gibt mit Verarbeitung, Elektronik usw. Ich selbst habe absolut keine Erfahrungen mit der KTM. Ich bin sie auch selbst noch nie gefahren die 3.0 und hier in der je hat aktuell kein Händler sie als Vorführfahrzeug. Der Händler in Vlotho gibt einem immer das Gefühl, man wäre nicht willkommen. Besteht evtl die Möglichkeit, dass ich mir deine KTM mal anschaue und du mir ein kurzes Feedback zu der Superduke gibst? Ich komme aus Bad Salzuflen und du offensichtlich aus Herford. Das wäre ein Traum, wenn sowas klappen würde. Mir geht es nur mal ums anschauen evtl mal draufsetzen und ein Feedback von jemandem, der das Bike selbst besitzt.

Ist meine zweite, und bist jetzt hatte ich nur eine Kleinigkeit bei meine SDGT gehabt. Aktuell hat meine SDR ein Rückrufaktion bekommen, irgend was am Kabelbaum unter dem Sitz. Im Vlotho war ich auch nur ein mal, bin auch nicht rein gegangen ganz ehrlich, von außen zusehen hat gereicht😝 fahre sonnst zu motorrad Bolte in Osnabruck, dort habe ich meine beiden gekauft. Da kannst du auf jedenfall probersitzen, fahren, alles.
@@thelikeablerider8800 bist du sonst zufrieden mit der SD? Ist die Verarbeitung lackqualität usw auch gut? Das wurde ja bemängelt. Ok dann werde ich mal nach Osnabrück fahren. Danke fprnddn Tipp. Kannst du mir noch ungefähr sagen wie hoch die jährlichen servicekosten bei ktm so sind?

Jeder Marke hat ab und zu Probleme, nicht nur KTM! Leute sind dan schnell zu merken! Klar gib es bestimmt Fälle wo Dinge nicht sauber gelaufen, aber alle haben das. Ich brauchte neue Nockenwellen bei meine S1000 nach 4000km, Hauptsache kriegt man guten Service von Händlern. Ganz normale inspektion kostet Ca 300 Euro, große inspektion Richtung 500 Euro.

I think it looks quite ok but your turn signals are covered and I don´t think Police will tolerate that - and of course it´s a major sefety concern.
That's only because of the tail tidy, with the stick tail everything is as it should be.

Oh cool! Do they provide one for the Speed Triple? I had a serious look at that bike, but with the high pipes I was put off a touch, as I thought it would be difficult to get any gear on it.

If your intention is to carry anything more than a rucksack then i don't understand why you wouldn't just buy the GT, there's no ugly rack and you get all the 'touring' extras, 23litre fuel tank etc.

I don't think I toured enough to fully get the use out of a GT.
It's all comes down to personal preference! The GT is a very capable bike, but I personally would rather ride the SDR all day long as supposed to the GT.
