As an aspiring game designer, I have to mention one thing for everyone who's saying this game is just challenging and there's nothing wrong with it: In a game with no saves and so much at stake such as this one, death shouldn't be by chance - especially by late game. For example, Mark mentions that after a certain time, Lucas can appear behind any door, even if he shows no signs of coming. That is ridiculous. What it means is that you could be playing literally perfectly, one key off, hide from the police in your bathroom and boom, dead. That doesn't make it challenging, it makes it unfair. Challenging means that if you learn enough and get really good, you can beat it. That's all, thank you for listening to me venting lmao

THANK YOU!!! it's incredibly punishing for working up this long and doing things meticulously only to die by chance with no warning. Police can be prevented and get warning signs, the noir can be easily prevented, the breather can be fought but Lucas just screws you over how he likes to? that's just bologna.
the chance of lucas being outside your door is so that going outside of your room is more risky after a certain time, which forces the player to be stuck in their room after 12:30. this means that the player has to do all the set up before then, and if they forget anything, they're stuck with what they have. They can decide to fix it, but lucas can be avoided by staying inside of your house. I think it's a little dumb, but it makes sense. If you are in your room, lucas will not kill you by chance, that's not how it works. There are signs of lucas if you're actually in your room, and ways to avoid him.
Imagine being clint's neighbor like the person who can see into his window from the next building over. Like think about it, there a guy who is keeps getting up from his chair then sits down. Then gets up again and walks around his apartment and only has one light on. Then jumps in his seat every min or so while looking at the screen. My Advice: 1. Lucas will only stay for 5 minutes if you don’t turn all the lights off before hiding... he’ll leave a lot faster if you do 2. Lucas gets triggered when you’ve gone on 2 sites that have keys (doesn’t matter if you don’t find them) 3. To do the DollMaker’s quest you will need to buy the Lolpy disk if you don’t you can’t do what he asks you and will eventually kill you 4. A lot of the sounds mean nothing e.e the honking and the police sirens have nothing to do with the Swat Team or Lucas (Lucas’s only sign that he’s there is the lockpicking) 5. When you finally get all 8 keys you’ll also need 250 DOS Coin to get what you’ve fought through this hellhole for

(And anybody who wants it) Avoiding the Breather: Avoiding the breather is simple. You have to go outside and walk slowly for a moment, waiting until you hear two sets of footsteps. Once you hear two run to the closet and right click to go up against the door. Once there, wait until you hear his footsteps come close and STOP and allow him to BREATH. Then simply wait until he tries to open the door and counter it by grabbing the door handle. He will repeat this about 6-10 times. You also have to be completely silent. Eventually he will try and walk away. But don't be fooled! Sometimes he will try and walk away before he's done so as to trick you. Count one minute in your head (NOT ALOUD) and make sure it is completely silent the whole way. If it is, then he's gone. ---------------------- Countering the Police: Mostly you have this down. But you have to change the wifi stick, not just the different available wifis, in order to avoid them. Also some of the wifis that you hacked into have smaller tracking times than others. Some wifis take longer for the police to track you and usually these are those with the password protected symbols. Using the wifis that are free don't give you as much cover. If they do track you, there will be an audio cue of police sirens. You will need to immediately shut off all your lights and go to the bathroom's shower (NOT THE CLOSET) and wait for about 5 minutes. This seems to counter them as far as I know. ----------------- Countering Lucas: (THIS IS POSSIBLY THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE JUST BECAUSE OF HOW DANGEROUS HE IS) I've kinda figured out the trick to this and have some back-up info for those of you who don't know. Turn off the lights near to the bed and the closet and go to the closet and wait there silently. He's ridiculously hard and this is the only thing I've noticed that seems to avoid him. IF he's coming in you can hear the sound of his lock-picking. You have to make sure and turn off those lights AND HIDE before he opens the door. I'v enoticed he stays there only for a short while, but he can be avoided. He spawns when you discover two webpages with a key. You don't need to find the actual hash to trigger Lucas. A nice bit to know is that if you think you only found one key, but Lucas spawned, that means you missed a key on a website that you looked over. Using motion sensors/audio alerts can help you determine Lucas' arrival. RUN to your hiding place, DON'T WALK. You have to RUN AND YOU HAVE TO RUN FAST. If you can't hear Lucas' footsteps, that most likely means that you took too long to hide or he's baiting you to leave. There's a chance the power will go out while Lucas is still visiting your room. Be wary of the Noir when this happens. HELPFUL TIDBITS AND SIDE-NOTES FOR LUCAS: 1. I have found that using the Blue Whisper with the motion sensors is a great way of knowing whether Lucas has entered your room or not when you are outside of your room. 2. Lucas can kill you on floor 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 10. He can also kill you when you're on the lobby computer and at the main door. Have two motion sensors near your door, and at the stairway. 3. Every now and then, you might encounter Lucas in the stairwell or any other area other than your apartment room. I can't help you with this, because I don't know why it happens. But I thought I'd give you a heads up anyways. ------------ Countering the Noir (+ a fun glitch): You have this down pat in your appartment, but there's another situation I've encountered you need to be aware of. If they're in your apartment, you have to TURN AROUND and COUNT TO 30. If they track you in the hallway then you have to run away until you're outside (I actually got caught by the breather when doing this as well so be careful and be prepared). You can get close to them, but only for about three seconds before you are killed. I have actually encountered a bug/glitch (or perhaps it's just an unanswered portion of the game the developers never accounted for) where if you turn around, wait about ten seconds, and then slowly start to back into their form - you can actually run right into them without being killed. I haven't tried this a second time, but I did it out of curiosity on my first attempt. These are your main enemies as far as I knew in my play-through. -------------------- A FUN EXTRA ENEMY IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME DON'T LOOK AT THIS BIT IT'S A SPOILER Encountering the Dollmaker: You have to go to his site, and leave it up. Now go to the door and look through the peep-hole in order to see a female doll standing there. A bald old man (the dollmaker) will grab the doll and drag it away. Now go back to your computer. The apartment complex will have a blackout soon enough. Go turn back on the lights and go to the hallway. You will be attacked and a knife will be up against your character's throat. This is the dollmaker. The Dollmaker will ask you to track down and mark the room of a young woman because he is running low on supply (so to speak). In order to do this you will need to have enough money to buy a LOLPY disc. The reason is because the LOLPY disc accesses the list of tenants and their respective room numbers. Once you've bought the LOLPY disc, insert it in the tower below the monitor at the lobby's reception desk. For some reason, every time I try to order the LOLPY disc, the Breather is waiting for me. So, when you enter the alley way, be very cautious of the Breather and make sure to act accordingly. Now merely use the LOLPY disc in order to gain access to the tenants, find three young women (the dollmaker will ask for more after the first) and mark their rooms as he asks. DO NOT ACCESS THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE ENOUGH DOS COINS TO BUY THE LOLPY DISC OR HE WILL KILL YOU. This is all I have for you Markimoo. I know there's another enemy hidden in this game, but I'm not sure how to trigger him or deal with him, yet.

After the dev messed with others for talking trash, I'm 100% certain when Mark got swatted at the end it was the dev. That wifi had a NO chance for him to be swatted, it wasn't possible using the known rules of the game.

20:11 i went frame-by-frame and i KNOW mark clicked where he was supposed to but that particular block is so finicky that it registered a different click after he got to the last one which messed it up. if you pause in just the right place when clint moves away from the computer, you can see that the second-to-last node doesn't connect to the one below it, but the one below and to the right of it. honestly that's just a really shitty mechanic but if mark hadn't moved away, he would have caught it i think and been able to fix it
Mark encountering a Noir at 39:55 is the funniest thing ever because imagine it happening in real life. You open a door, a big, buff dude with a mask is in front of it, crossing his arms. You let out a brief "A", then close the door and turn your back to him
If you don't beat the game until 4 AM you'll hear a noise from the door. And when you rush to the bathroom, in the shower you will encounter Noir, Lucas and Breather all together blowing party horns in your face. And as you run back to the door in shock, the door will bust open and a SWAT dude will knock you down and shove a cake in your face. And then it's gonna be a party until the morning.
Such a fascinating concept for a horror game, you can really feel the stress, and the fear everytime you open a door or hear a noise, I don't usually play horror games but I would definitely consider this one.
The fact that Noir has the ability to randomly kill you if you have any lights off and turn left at your desk combined with the fact that Mark turns left *a lot* anytime there's a loading screen or hack while intentionally keeping every light off but one gives me so much anxiety.
This popped up into my recommended after 2 years. When Mark said, "There's someone flipping through a dictionary finding new things to lock", it made me laugh, Because I was that someone.

As an aspiring game designer, I have to mention one thing for everyone who's saying this game is just challenging and there's nothing wrong with it:
In a game with no saves and so much at stake such as this one, death shouldn't be by chance - especially by late game. For example, Mark mentions that after a certain time, Lucas can appear behind any door, even if he shows no signs of coming. That is ridiculous. What it means is that you could be playing literally perfectly, one key off, hide from the police in your bathroom and boom, dead. That doesn't make it challenging, it makes it unfair. Challenging means that if you learn enough and get really good, you can beat it.

Yes, and the game dev made it so he can mess with your game at any point to troll streamers, certain that's what happened when mark got swatted towards the end
THANK YOU!!! it's incredibly punishing for working up this long and doing things meticulously only to die by chance with no warning. Police can be prevented and get warning signs, the noir can be easily prevented, the breather can be fought but Lucas just screws you over how he likes to? that's just bologna.
the chance of lucas being outside your door is so that going outside of your room is more risky after a certain time, which forces the player to be stuck in their room after 12:30. this means that the player has to do all the set up before then, and if they forget anything, they're stuck with what they have. They can decide to fix it, but lucas can be avoided by staying inside of your house. I think it's a little dumb, but it makes sense. If you are in your room, lucas will not kill you by chance, that's not how it works. There are signs of lucas if you're actually in your room, and ways to avoid him.

Some help here, from someone who's completed the game, Mark. (And anybody who wants it)
Avoiding the Breather: Avoiding the breather is simple. You have to go outside and walk slowly for a moment, waiting until you hear two sets of footsteps. Once you hear two run to the closet and right click to go up against the door. Once there, wait until you hear his footsteps come close and STOP and allow him to BREATH. Then simply wait until he tries to open the door and counter it by grabbing the door handle. He will repeat this about 6-10 times. You also have to be completely silent. Eventually he will try and walk away. But don't be fooled! Sometimes he will try and walk away before he's done so as to trick you. Count one minute in your head (NOT ALOUD) and make sure it is completely silent the whole way. If it is, then he's gone.

Countering the Police: Mostly you have this down. But you have to change the wifi stick, not just the different available wifis, in order to avoid them. Also some of the wifis that you hacked into have smaller tracking times than others. Some wifis take longer for the police to track you and usually these are those with the password protected symbols. Using the wifis that are free don't give you as much cover. If they do track you, there will be an audio cue of police sirens. You will need to immediately shut off all your lights and go to the bathroom's shower (NOT THE CLOSET) and wait for about 5 minutes. This seems to counter them as far as I know.

Countering Lucas: (THIS IS POSSIBLY THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE JUST BECAUSE OF HOW DANGEROUS HE IS)
I've kinda figured out the trick to this and have some back-up info for those of you who don't know.
Turn off the lights near to the bed and the closet and go to the closet and wait there silently. He's ridiculously hard and this is the only thing I've noticed that seems to avoid him. IF he's coming in you can hear the sound of his lock-picking. You have to make sure and turn off those lights AND HIDE before he opens the door. I'v enoticed he stays there only for a short while, but he can be avoided. He spawns when you discover two webpages with a key. You don't need to find the actual hash to trigger Lucas. A nice bit to know is that if you think you only found one key, but Lucas spawned, that means you missed a key on a website that you looked over. Using motion sensors/audio alerts can help you determine Lucas' arrival. RUN to your hiding place, DON'T WALK. You have to RUN AND YOU HAVE TO RUN FAST. If you can't hear Lucas' footsteps, that most likely means that you took too long to hide or he's baiting you to leave. There's a chance the power will go out while Lucas is still visiting your room. Be wary of the Noir when this happens.
HELPFUL TIDBITS AND SIDE-NOTES FOR LUCAS:
1. I have found that using the Blue Whisper with the motion sensors is a great way of knowing whether Lucas has entered your room or not when you are outside of your room.
2. Lucas can kill you on floor 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 10. He can also kill you when you're on the lobby computer and at the main door. Have two motion sensors near your door, and at the stairway.
3. Every now and then, you might encounter Lucas in the stairwell or any other area other than your apartment room. I can't help you with this, because I don't know why it happens. But I thought I'd give you a heads up anyways.

Countering the Noir (+ a fun glitch): You have this down pat in your appartment, but there's another situation I've encountered you need to be aware of. If they're in your apartment, you have to TURN AROUND and COUNT TO 30. If they track you in the hallway then you have to run away until you're outside (I actually got caught by the breather when doing this as well so be careful and be prepared). You can get close to them, but only for about three seconds before you are killed. I have actually encountered a bug/glitch (or perhaps it's just an unanswered portion of the game the developers never accounted for) where if you turn around, wait about ten seconds, and then slowly start to back into their form - you can actually run right into them without being killed. I haven't tried this a second time, but I did it out of curiosity on my first attempt.
These are your main enemies as far as I knew in my play-through.

A FUN EXTRA ENEMY
IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME DON'T LOOK AT THIS BIT IT'S A SPOILER
Encountering the Dollmaker: You have to go to his site, and leave it up. Now go to the door and look through the peep-hole in order to see a female doll standing there. A bald old man (the dollmaker) will grab the doll and drag it away. Now go back to your computer. The apartment complex will have a blackout soon enough. Go turn back on the lights and go to the hallway. You will be attacked and a knife will be up against your character's throat. This is the dollmaker.
The Dollmaker will ask you to track down and mark the room of a young woman because he is running low on supply (so to speak). In order to do this you will need to have enough money to buy a LOLPY disc. The reason is because the LOLPY disc accesses the list of tenants and their respective room numbers. Once you've bought the LOLPY disc, insert it in the tower below the monitor at the lobby's reception desk. For some reason, every time I try to order the LOLPY disc, the Breather is waiting for me. So, when you enter the alley way, be very cautious of the Breather and make sure to act accordingly. Now merely use the LOLPY disc in order to gain access to the tenants, find three young women (the dollmaker will ask for more after the first) and mark their rooms as he asks. DO NOT ACCESS THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE ENOUGH DOS COINS TO BUY THE LOLPY DISC OR HE WILL KILL YOU.
This is all I have for you Markimoo. I know there's another enemy hidden in this game, but I'm not sure how to trigger him or deal with him, yet.

After the dev messed with others for talking trash, I'm 100% certain when Mark got swatted at the end it was the dev. That wifi had a NO chance for him to be swatted, it wasn't possible using the known rules of the game.

20:11 i went frame-by-frame and i KNOW mark clicked where he was supposed to but that particular block is so finicky that it registered a different click after he got to the last one which messed it up. if you pause in just the right place when clint moves away from the computer, you can see that the second-to-last node doesn't connect to the one below it, but the one below and to the right of it. honestly that's just a really shitty mechanic but if mark hadn't moved away, he would have caught it i think and been able to fix it

And when you rush to the bathroom, in the shower you will encounter Noir, Lucas and Breather all together blowing party horns in your face. And as you run back to the door in shock, the door will bust open and a SWAT dude will knock you down and shove a cake in your face. And then it's gonna be a party until the morning.

Such a fascinating concept for a horror game, you can really feel the stress, and the fear everytime you open a door or hear a noise, I don't usually play horror games but I would definitely consider this one.
The fact that Noir has the ability to randomly kill you if you have any lights off and turn left at your desk combined with the fact that Mark turns left *a lot* anytime there's a loading screen or hack while intentionally keeping every light off but one gives me so much anxiety.
