I’m impressed with the bench work looks excellent. Sometimes we tear parts of our layouts down and start over. Put you started right from the start again. Can’t wait to see this layout come to life like the last one. Great share and video N scale dystopia. Will see you Thursday on ThridRail take care 😎🚂🫵TSM
You will never regret making benchwork overengineered. My last layout, I made several mistakes like laying it over carpet and using particle board. Small settlement issues leads to big train problems.
I spy with my little ear the Home Depot soundtrack! 😆 The new benchwork is great! I love the graphics you used illustrating L-girder benchwork. I'm looking forward to the layout's progress. As always, great production and editing!
Looks like quality work and a well thought design. May I make a suggestion here, at the 9:00 min mark, is that white glue your using? If so you may want to stop using that and use the yellow wood glue and latex caulk that will not soften again when wet. Tilebond III, I think is what to use. Some times when you go back to ballast track, the water and IPA may soften or dissolve the glue used for attaching the Track to cork and cork to plywood. So if you use a glue that will not break down with water/IPA, then when doing the scenery work later your safe with water and IPA methods of attacking scenery. Just a suggestion. I enjoy your videos and the lessons you have learned doing this hobby. Looking forward to your next video. Also I think it is smart to build layouts in modules so that if need be you take the module to different location to be worked on with access from all sides or set on a side for wiring, as well as of course you need to move.
Thanks for the comment. You raise an interesting point about the glue. This one is almost finished so perhaps I will switch to Carpenters glue or Tite Bond. Thanks!
Great video, love the detail you’ve added. I’m trying to design my own layout and and struggling with ideas, but seeing your process has given me ideas on how to solve a few of the sections. Thankyou!
Nice job on the benchwork... those are some serious carpentry skills... I always look forward to "what's next" with your videos and looking forward to your new venture into livestreams as well... thanks for sharing your amazing work
It’s such a good feeling when you apply skills you’ve learned the hard way! I had some similar problems with warpage, both track and baseboard. Plywood was the solution for the baseboard I came to, and allowing expansion gaps between flex track sections sorted the track issues, the track gaps are relative to the ambient temperature when you are laying the track. Eg in summer heat, no gaps, in the middle of winter, at least 1mm each end of a flex track section, and don’t soldier the joints!
This was fantastic! Though you still have a way to go, the amount of progress that you've made shows me that you'll probably be nailing down the Golden Spike on your main line sooner rather than later! Always outdoing yourself, Denny! I look forward to everything that is to come. Also, massive bonus points for using that Home Depot theme remix; that song goes unfathomably hard and it's only fitting for use on your layout updates, considering how wonderfully your benchwork is coming along!
Hey there, awesome benchwork and what looks to be an amazing layout when completed. It's easily noticeable how sturdy the whole thing looks so far. If you don't mind telling me, what are the dimensions of the layout?
Looks good. The vertical foot visible in much of the footage looks like a tripping hazard, especially when the layout top obscures. It should not be too hard to move it in or introduce a cantilever. A piece of timber between it and the wall could reinforce it against sliding. Don't forget a small feel-findable fire extinguisher. Our layouts are covered in electrics and our rooms often have only one entrance. I thought of you this morning. I was looking at putting in an old suspect quality turnout. Hmm? I hope the formatting holds for my 'sketch'; usually not. Layout 11111111111 1 1 Wall 1 1 foot 1111 1 Floor

You have some very smart ideas going into your bench work. I shall do the same once I start my layout some day in the future 😊
Thanks. I'm happy you think this has the smart ideas because I can tell you the last one had all the dumb ideas...
I love your accurate workstyle. Hope you get snowed in a lot, so i get to see more of your great work.😅
The work that has gone into your plan is just fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing!

Always makes my day to see a new video from you! Love the Home Depot theme, very fitting :)

Thanks. Building that tiny scale model has been a big help
There’s a man who likes like he has done his research and knows what he is doing!
That is some intense and inspiring work.
Denny , construction looks fantastic, glad you used plywood, very stable material, excellent work , trains soon, good luck Thursday 8 pm
Great progress! I too used more 3/4” plywood on my layout, good added security. I can’t wait to see your next video 👍
your mini layout of your layout is so awesome! great work so far. 🤘
Primer/sealer paint the frame components individually after gluing/screwing the L beams together, before table assembly. Thats what it’s for.
I appreciate your concise and no-nonsense explanations, and have subscribed 🙂
Thanks! I do my best to explain things in a way that I would understand it.
Hi Denny. It looks like you have a good solid base to progress with. Look forward to seeing more updates
Ooh man, I got chills seeing that bubble sit right in the middle of that level. Chef’s kiss. Benchwork looks great!
What a great space! Can't wait to see what you have planned.
Cheers 🤘
Great progress! Can't wait for the live streams, hopefully I get to catch them
