I was very much disappointed in the ignorance people showed when the Space Force was announced as our next branch. The jokes and nastiness was uncalled for. I was a Satellite Communications soldier in the Army for a number of years and knew full well the rising threats that were coming down the pipeline. You know less than 15 years ago, the worst thing we had to deal with was jamming, and even that was pretty easy for us to mitigate. But as technologies develop, more and more threats outside the atmosphere begin to emerge, so a full comprehensive defense strategy is needed. It facilitated the need for an entire branch. Unfortunately a lot of that stuff can't really be spoken about but I'm reminded of that meeting some members of the Senate had where the branch was being pitched. Most of them going in had thoughts that the next branch was 'silly'. But they the clearances to see the pitch and see exactly what the threats were and were going to be. When they came out, they voted unanimously to start the new branch immediately, politics went out the window. Space Force is a real branch, and very important to our nation's defense. All those who joked about it are the real jokes in the end.
i am really interested in enlisting into the space force but i'm concerned that i don't have a history of volunteering or anything along those lines. if i don't get accepted into USSF, and decide to enlist with the USAF instead is there still much of a chance to transfer over to the USSF after enlistment? i would love to get some more information about the likely hood of being accepted.
I would suggest taking a look at the Space Force subreddit. They have a newbie thread on there that's refreshed every week specifically for answering these types of questions.
