Thanks for a good tutorial. I was just fumbling about with the wheels on mine and a quick search turned up your video. I appreciate the tips on those and other aspects of the kit. Cheers!
thanks for the video which i've watched too late for the build! Most models I can just get on with and not worry too much about the fine print in the instructions, but not with this thing, Definitely the trickiest tank I've ever made, especially the wheels and too-short tracks, which were just awful. Where i did follow the instructions exactly, the spare track looked counter intuitive, and the way they have been done here in the vid is much better, i should have gone with my gut with those. Nevertheless, the finished article, with cut and refixed wheels, and welded snapped tracks looks pretty good when all painted up, sizable model for not much money, but not great for a Tamiya.
Nice video John thank you for putting it up. I’ve had a near 30 year break from making models and this Panther is my first one back. Just started the kit and feeling very inspired!
It's actually very simple. Drill holes for straight pins at the desired points to represent the the sag. Brace under the holes on the inside with styrene to keep the straight pins level. Of course if you're modeling the interior, it can be more difficult.@@michaelcanty4940
I would disagree a bit about simpler kits with respect to contests, if you like to enter them. My IPMS club judges models first on basic construction quality, alignment of parts, etc., before fancy finishes and detail parts. So, it is possible to win that trophy with an older kit built on a budget. The problem is that some judges seem to have a bias toward flashiness, which really isn’t a fair approach.
The tracks bear no resemblance to the real thing whatsoever. The spare track links for the hull sides are even worse . The little polythene wheel hubs aren't concentric . The general level of detail is low and what is there is either over-simplified or totally wrong. The dimensions and various angles are out and there are some totally wonky proportional issues - the lower hull/suspension/wheels look like they are 1/35 and the upper hull looks like it's 1/32 or larger ; look at it from the side and see how far past the idler wheel the rear hull extends and overhangs . My first few 1/35 armour kits were all Tamiya and, even as a novice, i thought they sucked . I got Italeri's Panther, about the same price back then, and although it has a few issues of it's own it went together smoothly, had far superior detail and got the look of the Panther much better than Tamiya did . The Jagdpanther is just as bad - i built that as well. However, their 90s-era Panthers are pretty good and still relatively cheap . Much better choices for novices and the thrifty .

I'm going to come back and follow this when I build

All Panther Ausf A's should have a zimmerit coating

Great stuff
Nice to see the planning operation is going well. Nice to see
Hi John, I think the size of the Holes on the WHEELS C7-C8 are different, one for the METAL SHAFT, and one for the PLASTIC SHAFT
Nice Video and a cool build
new parts C 11 replacing metal drive shafts?
Can i use spray paint to paint the panther
Yes
Why didn't you show how to give the tracks a realistic sag? Why no U fasteners for the screens?
The old Tamiya Panther A tracks are so tight, that inducing the sag would be very difficult.

Hello from Russia, Jonh
Do you build new zvezda kits in 1/35 scale?
Yes I have done quiet a few Zevezda kits and last week I bought the new M4 Sherman.
i like the crak butdont nothe time
you have to invest in new camera. Current is a shit
It's a piece of shit !!! I get started building it. just to have one of the road wheels refuse to go on anywhere. $#&"@#
This kit is horrible . It's not even cheap .
Why it seems good to me I'm building it now.

But i hope you enjoy your kit nonetheless - happy modelling 🤗
