I recently acquired this kit via online and will be starting it pretty soon. your video gave me some good ideas for detailing mine. a couple of them, using pieces of wire for handles etc were something I've done in the past. also using mesh for exhaust vents. so thanks for the video.

Great vid with tons of information. I have bought this kit for a number of the reasons you mentioned, I haven't built an armour model in over 40 years so I wanted a cheap kit to practise on before I build a more detailed (expensive) model. I am nearly ready for paint but I did notice two extra handles in the kit but not used in the instructions. After looking at old pictures I noticed the handle missing from the commanders hatch and one is the handle/step from the turret escape hatch so I drilled small holes and inserted them. I also filled the sponsons? with plasticard as I couldn't leave it so open. I bought a cheap tealeaf strainer from a shop (0.85p from Wilko's) and used the fine metal mesh to put inside the engine vents as they were also rather gaping. I have cut a hole through the bottom of the tank underneath the drivers hatch so that I can insert the driver figure after the tank is painted, I also wanted to have a go at painting figures but he won't fit through the hatch with his arms attached. The spare track links are very basic and plain so to give them a bit more detail I trimmed the teeth down a bit and glued them on the sides back to front, I know its not correct but it gives me some other detail to practise with. Overall I have really enjoyed making this kit, so much in fact that I may have to go buy another one to have a go at Winter camo.

Built that in 1979. Thought it was a hell of a step up from the old Monogram 1/32 Lee and Grant. Then a mate of mine got the Tamiya Tiger1. Hell, that even had black rubber hoses for the air filter gear on the back. I had built the motorised Leopard and Saladin when I was a little younger.

Built this kit about 6 months ago with my 12-year-old son. The tracks were almost an inch shorter than needed. Tried to stretch them, no go, had to go with after-market resin tracks. That lesson learned I'm about to build another one using the photo of the destroyed Panther outside of the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, April 4th, 1945 as a guide.

And I made a massive facelift to the Panther A's Diver's viewport as it was too low on the front glacis.
Plus I modified the poly caps into two, that the part that holds the wheel is inside, and the poly cap head is glued to the wheel to spin with it.
These 2 were lucky finds, the seller was a car model builder, and got it off him cheap, despite the lockdown in my neck of the woods.

I read about people recommending to add the tire split on the center wheels, but decided against it as it wouldn't be too obvious with the tracks on, and after having spent much effort removing the thick ridges prior.
For now I modified the Panther A suspension to make it stand up prouder, by adding styrene shims below the torsion bar nubs on the far end, as the stock stance seems a bit too tired.
This was after looking at the Littlefield Panther A.
I also corrected the pivot axes on the driver's and radioman's top hatches and reposition these hatches' "doorstops" if you could call them that.

    • @oddball759mm

The sponsons are made out of sheet styrene that I cut to shape. I first make a paper template and trace it over to plastic. Once I have the plastic cut out I glue it to the proper locations on the model. for extra strength and support, I always use a strip of angle plastic strip. it's mounted internally This acts as a brace to connect the side of the hull to the inner top portion of the sponson.
