manhunter is one of the best films i've ever watched
I've just developed an obsession with this song.
Michael Funke i did too , powerful scene ,instantly memorable , perfect track for the mood ,
The movie is good to check it out.
Great track and used to perfect effect in the scene where Tom Noonans paranoia and hurt at his imagined betrayal explodes into a crescendo of violence,One of those rare movies that depict psychopathy in its more brutal forms
Perception distorsion, right?
Michael Mann always had a gift for matching images and scenes with perfectly complementary music.....Unless, of course, his real gift resided in simply finding the ideal specialist for the task. Either way you look at it, we owe him.....Bigtime.
I just love that Peterson and Noonan were 'reunited' in the CSI episode with Noonan playing the magician Zephyr.
this movie definitely brings something new to the table in my eyes (the whole atmosphere and the soundtrack which goes so good with it)
Does anyone find this amazing loneliness lingering through the whole film...theres something about the film's atmosphere as a whole.
'No. Not Francis. Francis is gone. Francis is gone forever. '
I wish someone could digitally remaster this one. I'm sure fans of the film who are fans of the soundtrack would surely appreciate.
Playstationeer This particular copy was supplied to me by the late Severs Ramsey of The Prime Movers and home taped onto VHS from broadcast and took a lot of effort to get into this state. Even the band couldn't get hold of a good copy.
REALLY cool, man...ppl like you putting this stuff on YT are heroes...
Mike Pitt i loved this video when i saw it , thanks for the effort involved , and shame about your friend ...take care mate

That’s one of my greatest favorite songs I’ve ever heard one of the greatest movies I have ever seen severely underrated movie and the soundtrack and saw thank you my friends from Costa Mesa California
BEST SERIAL KILLER FLICK OF ALL TIME!
brian cox was an excellent lecktor , manhunter stands out as an 80s killer cult movie , michael mann at the top of his game , seriously well made ahead of its time , like LA takedown too , great track , funny how magic like this gets lost
Peak 80s
Manhunter being in SotL's shadow is more of a crime than anything lecter could dream up lol
You've got to love (and sometimes hate) the IMDb message boards. I never knew this video existed until searching the Manhunter boards. I grew up on the Manhunter soundtrack (my father bought the vinyl in 86) and have listened to it consistently ever since. It's great how all the tracks have stood the test of time.
Fantastic song. Fantastic movie and soudtrack.
Oh you are so right! I just finished watching it!!!!!
Great to see this in context! One of my all time favorite movies.
my favourite movie of all time. thanks for posting.
thanks mike, great track from simply the best film of it's genre... beautifully filmed, well scripted and great lead performances... mann's manhunter changed the way i watched films...
Father, look in my eyes
See me as I really am
You made me, now take me
Tell me how it feels now
Behold, your flesh has come of age
Forsake me, you break me
[Chorus]
Strong as I am
There's something about this thing that scares me
Strong as I am
There's something about this thing that dares me
Strong as I am
There's something about this thing that haunts me
Strong as I am
There's something about this thing that taunts me
[Verse 2]
Mother, let me heal you
Your pain has lasted far too long
Release it, it kills you
See me as I feel you
The love you would not share
Is tired of waiting
[Chorus]
Strong as I am
There's something about this thing that scares me
Strong as I am
There's something about this thing that dares me
Strong as I am
There's something about this thing that haunts me
Strong as I am
There's something about this thing that taunts me
[Bridge]
Will I leave them? I say no
They ask me "will you leave us?"
I say no, no
[Outro]

Song is especially powerful if you reflect on our personalities being issued to us, like Lecter says in the film. Many times, I wonder about me and why I watch crime shows, can't forget the love of my life that burned me and my subsequent reaction to that and my life. What made me like heavy metal? What makes me study psychology and criminology? We are ISSUED personalities and those are later modified by our societal experiences and it is left to us to interpret this information, whether societally acceptable or not. You can love yourself more than all and triumph over trials, or you can succumb to mental weakness and commit deviance on your world. These are deep concepts and I WILL not be a product of my environment and pull some Will Graham out my ass, lmao. Peace to you if you found this and searched for psychology over psychopathy. The struggle is real.
I have the original version of Manhunter on VHS. Its rediculous how many bloopers were in the original release. I love that movie.
This video was on light rotation in MTV in August 1986.
The others that shared the light rotation include:
BOURGEOIS TAGG, "THE PERFECT LIFE"
CHAKA KHAN, "LOVE OF A LIFETIME"
IQ CUCUMBERS, "ALL SHOOK UP"
LIMITED WARRANTY, "VICTORY LINE"
MACHINATIONS, "YOU GOT ME GOING AGAIN"
MARY JANE GIRLS, "WALK LIKE A MAN"
SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNIK, "21ST-CENTURY BOY"
MANHUNTER=EVERYTHING.
Hey Mike great job, this song brings back my memories of the 80's here in Miami when I was growing up. Yeah this also came out in an episode or two of the Miami Vice TV series.
I second that, the setting of the video reminds me of the pre-dawn, early morning hours.
I love Manhunter and for a month straight, the only music I listened to was the soundtrack.
This is the first time I have seen this video. Thanks for posting.
It's quite easy to get hold of, check the intrada link in the description
Thanks for this post Mike.
Great find, I wish I didnt lose this soundtrack
The soundtrack to Manhunter is Awsome. It's not easy to get hold of. Great track.
saw this film last night, great tune !
my favorite! absolute !!! great song !
Francis is gone.., Francis is gone forever.
Such a slick song.
There's something equally magical and moody about the in-between times of dusk and early dawn.
Great song, great scene, def,. the best in the film. Mann had his moments.
Mike, thanks for posting this video. Hadn't seen it since it was first on MTV, before I had even heard of the movie.
Excellent
Should have played this during the Hannibal v Crawford brawl in the Hannibal season finale.
Thief = best movie soundtrack ever & best Mann film.
I feel completely touched by this song. The songs of the 80's taught the way of the warrior, really...
The Prime Movers--Strong As I Am song used in the movie Manhunter, one of the early appearances of Dr Hannibal Lecter.
I don't know I like both versions equally, for different reasons though, they're both entirely different films when you look at them side by side, just sort of depends on what you're in the mood to watch. However one thing Red Dragon didn't really have was the music such as this and others, gives the movie a really cool atmospehere.
This is a brilliant Song, he has got a great voice.
(World Class Song)
(World Class Movie)
I love to hear this music since I saw the movie
where did all the good times go, 80s rock
Thanks ; )
Graham and Dollarhyde both partake of that loneliness because no sane person could ever truly understand the rage that fuels them both.
Cardano - ADA... Charles !
thats a brilliant film and the music in it is of a same quality as proven by the vid above
❤❤❤
It is in your nature to do one thing correctly: Tremble.
the lead singer is clearly mark pillow - aka nuclear man from superman 4. Awesome, and quite deadly
If I remember right, this song was also used in an 80's movie called "Abraxas". The movie was terrible imo, but this song was worth watching it.
Beginning reminds a little of Gabriel's Sledgehammer.
One of the biggest oddities in music as good as these guys were as Prime Movers it took Dread Zeppelin to go platinum. I still listen to Un-Led-Ed to this day......
Powerful. Should have been a hit.
Please remaster this video into HQ!!!
i agree jg manhunter rules
I can picture myself in a white suit with a teal button up shirt and a white tie standing at the edge of a 20 story building eyes closed arms spread out hands wide open with my lockes blowing back in the wind, that's what I feel when I listen to this song.
And of course the song may refer to both Will Graham and Francis Dollarhyde, brothers under the skin, as your constant intercutting between the two makes perfectly clear.
Have you checked Limewire or SoulSeek? You should be able to find it at either one. That's how I was able to download the entire soundtrack.
Hello tonic. Tangerine Dream did the soundtrack to THIEF another great 80's movie by Micheal Mann starring James Caan
If you want to get the old scent back, smell yourself !
In the books and movies other than Manhunter, it's Lecter. In Manhunter, it's Lecktor. In Manhunter it's Dollarhyde instead of Dolarhyde. Will's son's name is Willy in the book of Red Dragon, but his name is Kevin in Manhunter and Josh in the 2002 adaptation of Red Dragon.
2:01 Is where this song is used in Manhunter--the best scene in the movie.
For me, regarding the Lecter/Lektor films, its The Silence Of The Lambs just ahead of Manhunter, only just. The OST to Manhunter is face melting though!
@AxelBitz Abraxas was fantastic... the villain (Secundus) also squares off with a young boy while the music is playing, saying something like "Just you, me, and the anti-life equation now!"
What's fascinating to me is how the song could refer either to Will Graham or to Francis Dollarhyde. They are brothers under the skin; Rage fuels them both.
I agree.
i'd love it if someone put up the scene in which this song is played..
doh! silly me. i had no idea...and gregory is a good friend.
One can only wonder what inspired the song to begin with. Unless I'm mistaken it was not composed for the film but existed before MANHUNTER was produced.
@plasticman06 absolutely.
this is the only one that has both audio channels
@atomrose
And originally it was Lektor not Lekter, at least in the movie (don't know about the books though...)
doh! i had no idea that my friend gregory markel did an earlier version than the one i know by altered state. if you can find an album called 'dos', get it, no questions...
I prefer this film over the Hopkins remake - Brian Cox is awesome.
Wow!! It took me a long time to get this. Where can I find more by the Prime Movers?
Holy shit, thanks for posting this. I remember the first time I saw Manhunter (in like 2003) - I had never seen anything like it in terms of the oddball, somewhat surrealist 80s aesthetics and music (having grown up during the mid and late 90s.) I was blown away by this sick song. To this day I vastly prefer Manhunter to "Red Dragon" and Tom Noonan OWNS Ralph Fiennes any day of the week!!!
its about the lead singers family
he was akiller but i felt sympathy for his suffering
@omega856 Gregory Markel recorded this son with Altered State as well, The lyrics are here on this page. alteredstate com
I never saw the part starting at 1:56 on the video
10 times better than "Red Dragon!"
Anybody know what/where I can find the lyrics for this song? I looked online but can't seem to find them....
@IG2HI
You could buy the CD legit online from intrada.com
@1greekspartan How much would you charge to burn a copy of the soundtrack?
try 'Thief Mann's first, Tangerine Dream, wow. but this was one Triumph of the 80's, surpassed perhaps by Heat, but with De Niro, Pacino and Ashley friggin Judd, pretty obvious. hmmmm. what's next Michael? Godfather IV
Terminator IV
when can we meld comic book with actuality
not 10,000 BC but 2010
oh that's been done, RIP Roy Scheider
"we're gonna need a bigger boat"
wow, i didn't know anyone covered altered state. i thought it would be a different song...
Who's here after watching "Clarice?"
I heard that this was cut from GTA V.
I think that the book is better than either film. You read a great deal about Francis Dolarhyde's history. And Hannibal doesn't appear that much.
Francis is gone
can someone get me the mp3 for this song?
Do you know where I can download this song for free.
Sounds like he had a, um, interesting upbringing.
man his is old
Fist of Northstar brought me here
@omega856 The official Altered State Web Site alteredstate then a dot and the word com.
1:48 guy playing the drums doesn't match the beat.
