- fine art feather photography made easy. A brilliant way to start off doing fine art macro photography at home on a rainy day. Just by using a simple lamp and some tin foil from the kitchen. This will definitely change the way you look at feathers for good. So simple but effective don't just take my words to try it out for yourself.
bulbs are available on Amazon for around £7.99
Hi Lee
Only discovered your channel recently, and like you, I use photography as a coping mechanism (after my wife died) as I also have a disability that prevents me from walking far, I set up a macro studio in spare room. Tried to learn from UA-cam, but was mostly brash Americans who just wanted to be seen. Then along came you (and Stewart) people who care about others, and have a passion for their craft. Keep it up old mate, and stay positive. We'll done.
Hi Richard, I'm sorry to hear about your wife, but it brings a smile to my face that you found photography as a means to keep you busy.
If you are interested you can become part of The Macro World facebook group, and if you had like to be able to have a chat or be part of a small community, then you can join Stewart's Discord server.
Stewart Wood, Lee Hall, myself and several other nice people frequent that place.
Feel free to join us if interested :)
Thank you from the bottom of my heart it really is so nice to hear the words you have just said.
Hi Lee! I too have a disability and photography, particularly macro photography gives me a focus (if you pardon the pun!) because I can't work and would get very bored and very depressed otherwise. Take care my friend.
I do love a photographer who uses simple techniques and simple pieces of 'equipment' like Blu-Tac! Wonderful! None of these fancy clips, clamps, plamps and things that cost an absolute fortune, that the average Joe Bloggs on the street can't afford anyway! Well done that man!
I can’t wait to try this! I need to make a trip to my craft store for some goodies, like feathers and putty.
God bless you my friend you will have lots of fun I promise you. Just let your imagination flow and if you get stuck feeling free to drop me a message
@@LeeHallphotography Thank you!
No subscriber here. You have just given me ideas and I am already inspired to do it though I don't have a macro lens yet. Thank you!!!

Hi Lee, I love your work and your philosophy. You are very inspiring and inspire creativity. You reinforce my attitude to shoot for myself and if other people like it that is good. If not, Oh well!. Thanks again Lee.
Wow thank you John I really did learn a lot when I first started photography and one thing was to be happy with your own work. Yes maybe you could of done things differently but at the same time you still end up with the same picture.
This probably sounds weird but it's the way I have always looked at it.
The people who laughed at my pringel tube snoot all started using them lol
Absolutely brilliant. I have to try it. Thank you!
You are most welcome my friend happy snapping 📸
Brilliant ideas mate. Can't wait to get my setup... 👍

Thank you my friend I am so so glad you are enjoying them 👍🙏👍🙏
Great stuff Lee. I thought there would be more into the setting up.. I'll be giving that a go over the wkend.. i just need to catch a pheasant to get the feathers..🤣
Lol go get it my friend. I Always make it as simple as I can lol.
Angling shops that also sell fly tying equipment , will have a good range of feathers to chose from.
Just discovered your channel. I don't understand why you don't have more subscribers and views. I've been a photographer since the film days and made a living at it at times. I'd actually gotten a bit apathetic with photography lately. Too many, too much of the same old same old. People have become rather frustrating to deal with in portraiture. Nature and landscapes have even started to become a bit same, same for me. Not to mention it has been way too hot and dry here in SW Texas to the point my favorite water spots are all dried up. The simple, yet beautiful tabletop macro work you are doing is a fresh change and inspiring. I have nice gear and lenses that have just been sitting for the most part. Time to get them going again. You really should have more people watching this channel. Maybe it's because the gear manufacturers and dealers are paying UA-cam to suppress your videos because they don't encourage people to buy multiple thousands of dollars worth of gear. :) Okay, I did go on Amazon and by a 2 pack of those multi-color light bulbs.
Wow thank from the bottom of my heart for your fantastic comment and support. To be fair I have had a lot of you tube photographers contact me a while back trying to put me down. And trying to get a photography company to send me there bottom of the range gear is a joke they just send me emails saying sorry lol.
But to be fair I really just enjoy putting fresh new ideas on the tabe that people have not done before and showing people how I do it. And when I get a fantastic comment like your one. This just boosts me to do more. I know I am not the best but I am just passionate about helping my viewers.
Once again thank you ever so much
And welcome to my UA-cam family
Really like this idea
Thanl you mate really appreciate your kindness and support 👍
Great stuff Lee must get one of these bulbs
Trust me you will love it there bloody brilliant
Awesome video mate :)
Thank you mate it would not have been up if you did not come to my rescue 👍
Thanks Lee another good one, you help keep us together and give us hope. ( thanks to Mrs Hall for keeping you going) I have a question please, I have paintshop 2021 and want to get helicon soft, is it worth getting this to help depth of field, as most people use LR. I would like your advice/option please. Thanks Eric
Hi my friend thank you for your kindness and support.
I only use LR and PS my friend so I can't really help. But when it comes down to depth of filed the way you frame the shot up and position the camera will help you more than any edit tools. All editing tools are pretty much the same just don't spend lots on them. I will have to do a video on how I edit my pictures you will see how I don't really do a lot to them and I only use the simple tools my friend
Another super creative one Lee. Loving your channel here in Canada (or are we called the colonies in England?). My colour changing light bulb has been ordered and is on the way thanks to your inspiration.
Thank you my kind friend Canada is one place I have always wanted to visit so you might just see me there one day.
@@LeeHallphotography That would be a thrill. You're welcome to stay with me anytime.
I think I have seen some small feathers out in the yard I could use. Will be trying this. Do you have any ideas for setting up a mushroom shoot in the house?
Thank you I have never tried that but I will have to give it a go my friend
You are a 'pheasant plucker' to watch, both entertaining and educational. Looking forward to trying this technique. Did you do any post to further enhance the shots?
Mike in Oz
Thank you my good friend hope you are all doing OK down under.
I just added a little vinyet around the edges my friend the light really does all the work for you. 📸👍📸
If you use a bit of glycerin with the water, the drops stay longer.
Hi my friend they sure do stay a lot longer but I find that as they dry they go a milky colour
Great one bud ;)
I might have had a moment of genius. Why not hold a ruler against your lens so that the end of the ruler will be at the same angle as your focal plane?
That way if you have the feather at an angle, you can tilt your camera to match the angle :)
Good thinking brain box I just love how you just come up with simple ideas 💡
I actually went and found some old stuff on my computer, that you can make some neat videos about. Subjects that are straight up your style and expertise :)
Ör have light from backside?
Lee are you sitting by a window and what is the direction of the natural light? I would love to do this and many thanks for your info.
Hi my friend my window is to the side of my studio but the main light is coming from the bulb my friend as the foil is stopping the light from the window hope this helps
@@LeeHallphotography Thank you Lee and when I get some feathers I will give it a go.
How do you know which extension tube to use?
Hello Norma thank you for dropping me a message.
It really depends on how close you want to photograph your subjects. The bigger the extension tube the close and bigger the subject will be in the frame of your picture.
I always start off with a small extension tube and see how it looks then move to a bigger one if needed.
Hope this helps you
Stay safe and happy snapping
Happy New Year Lee.
Some constructive criticism: Your videos would be much better if instead of showing the back of the camera, which shows the photos in very poor quality on our screens, you would show the actual pictures or leave the back of the camera in the video but add all the pictures at the end of the video so that we can see them in good quality.
Thank you my friend I think you might be right and a very good point there friend. I try to show the picture so it proves I am not lied about the settings. I will definitely look at this straight away thank you from the bottom of my heart I really appreciate your help
To much light?
Totally agree 👍
