Come an' Get It has become no. 1 for me in recent years. Lonely Days Lonely Nights is my all-time fav blues, such a cool groove on Hit An' Run, love the trademark Whitesnake swagger of Girl and the hard rockin' Hot Stuff. Followed by Trouble and Lovehunter, superb playing with Marsden, Moody and Lord's delivering excellent, generous solos on that early era.

Fav: Come an Get it and Ready an Willing.
Least Fav: Slip of the Tongue and Flesh and Blood
Wild card: Snakebite, technically an Ep turned into a fantastic album by adding 4 DC solo tracks. Love it!

I saw the Snakes wednesday at the Saku concert hall in my hometown Tallinn with Europe in tow. Both of them did not dissapoint.
I am very interested to see what the picks are. This is going to be a great show.
Its Probably safe to say that the popularity of each whitesnake era depends on ones rock music preferances and fandom history.
I personally like all eras of the band, especally up to 89

Slip of the Tongue has always been a favorite, I remember being four or five years old and hearing that on cassette in the car... People bash on Vai's playing but it holds up pretty well. Good songwriting (I hear classical music bits in many spots), good lineup (Tommy Aldridge on drums, for example) and stellar vocal performance from Coverdale (Judgment Day is epic!). As for Vai, what can I say? I love the tapping overdose, a nod to EVH and the occasional inverted Hendrix chord thing like on a certain part of Slow Poke Music- easily one of my favorite moments in guitar history when one of those chords ring out... Then you have something like Wings of the Storm which is ruthless metal with a riff right up my alley (favorite song in retrospect, by the way) and the two hit ballads which I think are actually elevated by the solos. I also don't know if everyone knows this, but the cat noises at the beginning of Kitten's Got Claws are all guitar noises done mechanically with nothing done in post-production... Sure fooled me! Perfect record top to bottom in my opinion... My second favorite is Lovehunter- something about the tone, the whole smoothness while still having that 70s crunch... and it has the best lead guitar of all the earlier stuff and a well-rounded collection of songs, especially deep cuts (medicine man, long way from home, help me thro the day, walking in the shadow of the blues + the title track)... Now, least favorites are simply the debut and Ready an Willin, because I honestly enjoy all the Whitesnake albums and those are probably the ones I'll hear from start to finish least often... Flesh & Blood has to be the wild card because that exceeded my expectations even from the good standards of the previous two... Reb is a favorite guitarist for me and does an incredible job, doing way more of his signature Winger stuff. I haven't heard this record in a while and I can still remember the hooks and choruses of most of the songs... That's how good it is compared to even earlier stuff...

I had that tape back in the day, and really didn't care for it. "Kittens Got Claws" is truly cringe worthy, and the (uneeded) remake of "Fool For Your Loving" pales to the original and hasn't aged very well. I guess it depends what brand of Whitesnake you enjoy, the hair metal incarnation, or the bluesy earlier version with guys like Jon Lord, Mickey Moody, Ian Paice etc.

    • @gabriellarrubia1006
      @gabriellarrubia1006 2 роки тому +1

@@jeffjackson9679 I like the early bluesy Whitesnake... Saints and Sinners, Slide it In and Come an get It would be fighting for #3 favorite... but it doesn't offend me at all that they did something else for awhile. I've been a fan of 80's hard rock and metal for ages and I'd say this was above average for that type of music... I've heard Def Leppard and Kiss do way worse and get away with it... I benefit from liking a less serious track like Cheap an Nasty as much as something objectively better like Sailing Ships, but at the same time there probably shouldn't be a whole album with just the latter or it would mess up the pacing... On the other hand you could strip down Kitten's Got Claws, add hammond organ to it and give it a boogie feel, it probably would have been passable as an early stage deep cut... Now the problem with Vai in particular is something I don't get, because people don't mind excessive playing from a keyboard player in a prog band for example (which I also really enjoy) or a thrash guy shredding away. I totally get where people are coming from if they're exclusively blues rock fans, but if people bash Steve for overplaying and then say how ELP or Megadeth are great for doing the same thing, I'll be laughing out loud a little... It becomes this weird phenomenon where only certain people in type A band are allowed to do something musically without it being called horrible...

Another quality show. My faves must include Live In The Heart of the City, it's my go to Whitesnake album. Not a bad song on it. And it has a killer Take Me With You for one thing. Other fave would be Come An' Get It or Saints & Sinners. But it's so hard to choose. Saints & Sinners tour was the only time i saw them. Colin Hodgkinson on bass, Mr C F Powell on drums (complete with gigantic pyro/flamethrowers), and Mel Galley replacing Bernie Marsden. Least faves Slip Of The Tongue and 1987. Wildcard would be Northwinds.

I live a couple of miles from Saltburn in the north of England , David Coverdales birthplace and the area in which he used to play live in the pubs and clubs. Strange to think as you wander round this sleepy little seaside town that a rock legend came from here. Also I would add Paul Rodgers also played round here and was born about 10 miles away.. Great show guys! I'm a big Whitesnake fan, and I really like this show topic. I don't think I can pick a least favourite, as there are some parts of this catalogue I haven't really revisited (it's the early part Simon and Steven love lol) but my favourite albums are the 1987 album, Flesh and Blood (Pete xd), Slide it In and Slip of The Tongue. I think Flesh and Blood is easily the best of the recent ones, I find it to be a really good uplifting happy time hard rock album. Of course, 1987 and Slide it In are classics, and I actually like the UK tracklisting for Slide it In, though that's the one I'm used to. I really like Slip of The Tongue, I think it's a really fun album with lots of great songs (I disagree about Slow Poke Music, Simon, I love it), but that's just me. Looking forward to the next one of these!

Restless heart was REALLY well served by the recent box set where DC presents demos, outakes, remasters, remixes but most importantly a NEW version where guitars and keys are added to make it a "real" Whitesnake record. Even added a new cover to make it look like one.

My favorite two are "Slide it in" and "Ready an' Willin'". I don't want to give a preference for either the UK nor the US version of Slide it in, it really depends on with which one you grew up, but the song order is definitely better on the UK version - Gambler is a perfect opener with the moody keyboards by mister Lord and the uptempo Guilty of Love closes this perfect album 😃
The least favorite might be one of the recent ones, maybe the latest one - it left me pretty cold
Wildcard - Coverdale & Page (am I cheating?) - a very underrated album
A suggestion - a Favorite & least Favorite on Thin Lizzy and/or Gary Moore! Would be much appreciated!

I love David Coverdale White Snake and Northwinds as well as the early Whitesnake albums, but I have to say I love them all. Listening to some David Coverdale interviews and box openings of these new releases. It sounds like David has been trying to do some self titled albums, but it gets suggested ‘told’ to make it a Whitesnake album. I think he has wanted to go back to his blues style for some time. Let’s hope that that is where he’ll be heading after this farewell tour. My wild cards are Coverdale Page and Into the Light.

I'll be with Steven and Simon on that, simply because I have no knowledge what Whitesnake did after their americanisation. When I think of Whitesnake this refers to the early UK albums. Highly recommended: Bernie Marsden's biography. I love the guy and am very pleased that he achieved such a success after the tough times with UFO. Unfortunately it came to a sudden end.

Another Scot from Aberdeen coming down 100% on "pre USA '87" Whitesnake .... but my main comment to make here is about how highly regarded Bernie Marsden remains to this day ... and what a genuine guy he is. He was playing the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen a wee while back as solo support act (!!) to Joanne Shaw Taylor ... doors opened at 7pm or thereby and by 7.30pm the venue was rammed (holds up to 550 standing) ... never happens ... never full early ... but folk came out "en masse" to see / hear Bernie live ... signed my copies of my Look at Me Now and About Time Too LPs before his set ... chatted with everybody ... really engaging ... also played tunes from his (then) new Shine CD .... and, later on, buddied up with Joanne as they did a blinding version of Standing in the Shadow of the Blues (possibly my favourite Whitesnake tune ... along with Don't Break My Heart Again and Ready and Willing) ... had total audience participation ... just magic .... Moody / Marsden era Whitesnake just "works" .... do also really like the solo Coverdale LPs / EP pre Whitesnake ... CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland

again my fave trio making a joyful episode 🙂this and Hudson valley Squares are my 2 fave programs on this channel and the krautrock epsiode of in the prog seat and other episodes from that program where you talk about more than classic prog rock, though i like myself some of those classic prog bands as in those beloved english bands, it's not something i listen to that much, although i'm pretty well versed in that genre if i may say so, and of those classic uk bands King Crimson is my fave band, cause they where more edgy than alot of the more symphonic bands, and i really don't consider the mighty Floyd as a prog band, but i guess that's because my Floyd is the Barret Floyd, shortlived yes, but i obviously love a couple of their Gilmour albums too, Rush is it's own entity if you know what i mean, sorry a bit of a tangent there, but, this channel happens to be my 2nd most watched YT channel as of for quite some time, so...ol Coverdale, Mr Sleaze himself, Whitesnake where never my fave band but i do enjoy some of their output, though my fave Coverdale album happens to be one of my 2 fave Purple albums, namely; Burn, and funnily enough title wise the other is; Fireball (whaat how is that possible, In Rock and/or Machine Head are obviously their best, and yes i do love those albums too, and their underrated Mk1 output too, not as much by far compared to the aforementioned, but still) anyways, just to clear things out, i'm not british, nor european, but Scandinavian and yes Slide It In, which is not an album i like that much, it's not bad but it's getting closer to..., but yes the european/uk version is superior (coming from somebody who speaks as in understands music/production as it's in my blood, inherited, and i must confess damn proud of it, as it's a gift/talent which i can utilize and help and learn others to understand music and to explain my why's etc with all things music, and i'm learning myself every day too 🙂) and then there's the first impressions thing with music, which is innocent although can be unfortunate, as while music/art is very much subjective, it's also objective, and i have this trait too, and when it comes to americans, and no offense, and a bit stereotypical, like their things, whatever it may be; BIG and in your face, which is not a bad thing, being a classic car enthusiast too, and specially anything high performance, as from the 60's, i do love my V8'S very much

Does anyone know how many albums, videos, and bands Rudy Sarzo is involved with where he doesn't play a note on the records but his picture is on them or he's in the videos? He seems to be all over the place but then you find out that someone else played the bass on the albums that feature his picture, or the popular Whitesnake songs he's in the videos, and even Quiet Riot he doesn't play on Mental Health. The Ozzy-Randy albums always come to mind first but there's so much more. Oh well, this video triggered this thought.

Wow! I have to say I loved Slip of the Tongue, loads of energy, flash, swagger, catchy, and an album that I cranked up all the time back then. Loved Steve Vai's playing on it. Hooks, anthemic, a strong album of its time. I suspect the distaste I hear in this vid is more rooted in the fact that Steven and Simon were pre-1987 album fans who fell in love first with the early UK era (which I came to like later). But Slip of the Tongue is loaded with energy and reflects a band on top of the world at the time. I spin it much more than anything that comes afterwards.

Hey Stephen. Yes, I can't deny that I'm mainly an early Whitesnake man, but my dislike of Slip of the Tongue really is based round Vai not, in my opinion, playing for the songs. The solos are all about him and his style and have nothing to do with what the songs require. As Pete says, we all hear it differently - and that's what makes music the fun it is! First saw David Coverdale with Purple on the Burn tour in May 1974 and was lucky to be near the front at Cardiff to bid farewell to him on his last UK concert. Even more exciting for me, is that my two children, have been to see every Whitesnake tour over the past 15 years and they love them as much as me. Whitesnake live are a real tour de force and the latest lineup, with Dino and Tanya, are excellent. David is still the supreme stage presence - will we ever see his like. I thought this would be easy. Come an get it and Ready an' Willin" as my faves, 1987 as my wildcard, Slip of the Tongue as one of my least faves and I'll work out the other by listening to the four 'Snake albums I haven't heard and relistening to Trouble upto Slip. Job's a good 'un.
Well, yes and no. There a few surprises on my week of listening. Firstly, I wasn't too keen on Carry Your Load, Love Man and Black and Blue. That"s a third of the album. So that's out the window.
Second surprise was the first album I bought 34 years ago 1987, even though nit having listened to it for years, I still love all 9 tracks. That's fave #1.
Relistening to the early albums I found that the honky tonk bar room boogie of songs like Lie Down, You and Me, Rock n Roll Angels & Black and Blue didn't work for me. Preferring tracks like Walking in the Shadow of the Blues, Ready an Willin', Saints and Sinners, Girl, Would I lie to You?, Child of Babylon. Leading to the conclusion that Come and Get It, is my second fave , loving all ten tracks even though it has. The HTBRB of Wine, Women n Song, which I feel is the best example of this with Dave's tongue in cheek (whose cheek we don't know) lyrics.
My wildcard is Slide it In both versions even though the UK version of Standing in the Shadows is much better. Most of the other albums have a ratio of me liking 70 to 80% of the albums except the next two.
Least favourites are Slip of the Tongue. Cheap n Nasty - yes, it is The Deeper the Love - rhyming colder with shoulder, no. Kitten Got Claws - no, just, no. Slow Poke Music - those angular guitar jabs might poke someone's eye out if they're not careful.
The best songs Sailing Ships, Judgement Day, Wings of the Storm and the title track.
My other least fave Good to be Bad, starts of well with Best Years , Can you Hear the Wind Blow, and Call on Me. Then meanders till Summer Rain. Then gets lost again, until we reach Till the End of Time.

It's crazy to think, where Whitesnake would be today if the 1987 album had flopped and hadn't been as massive worldwide as it was maybe they'd been relegated to rock obscurity now, weird to ponder that. Still drawing the crowds today, largely based on this late '80s history alone.

Coverdale’s solo albums are arguably even better than the Whitesnake catalogue, truly spectacular music! Northwinds perhaps edges it for me due to it having a cohesiveness and continuity, but Whitesnake has these awesome songs peppered throughout and tonnes of variety.

My number one is Lovehunter, which I think is the perfect encapsulation of the Whitesnake sound and one of my favourite albums ever, period. Number two is the UK mix of Slide it in although I could have picked anything up to 1987. The worst two are Good to be Bad and Flesh and Blood - not stinkers but nothing to write home about. Wildcard is Starkers in Tokyo, which although lacking setlist wise is a great showcase for Coverdale and Vandenberg.

My worst album has to be is slip of the tongue, as far away from the Whitesnake I love.
Love Coverdale but post Slide it in was a downward trend to me although still produced some great songs they lost their lighter blues groove with Neil Murrays amazing melodic playing.

I figured I'd just list the studio albums I own, since 2 faves, 2 least faves and a wildcard would've just about cover it. I do own the live album and have the EP. I just never got around to buying the self-titled '87 release. I thought about it, but money was tight for a college freshman and by the time I'd heard a couple of other songs from the album my interest had waned. Anything softer than The Cult or GNR wasn't getting my cash. Don't regret it and have never felt the urge to purchase anything else.

My favorite has always been Slide It In, which is IMHO the perfect bridging album between classic Whitesnake and the MTV era version. Although, if I can cheat, if the first half of Lovehunter and the first side of Ready An' Willing were on the same album, it would be my absolute favorite. My wildcard would have to be Saints An' Sinners, which is almost a boogie album in spots but generally a lot of fun outside of future hits Here I Go Again and Crying In The Rain, which are more moody and contemplative here. ‘Hungry For Love’ was brutally edited on the U.S remix. Micky Moody’s guitar playing does feature in part on the U.S mix. ‘Love Ain’t No Stranger’ is definitely Micky Moody’s guitar solo,on the U.S mix. I’m glad that Cozy Powell put his own stamp on the ‘Slide It In’ album, along with Mel Galley. I wish Viv Campbell was able to throw in some classic Dio riffage, along with Adrian Vandenburg,on ‘Slip..’ Adrian can actually reign it in a play in a more economical bluesy way,as he did on the original ‘Restless Heart’ album. What can you say about a show that refers to Shoot league ladders, genius. As for Whitesnake, as they were my first gig (1981) they have a special place for me. Ready and Willing (Blindman is sublime), Live in the Heart of the City and Come and Get It would be my picks. I never liked the production on Slide it In and 1987 (in the UK) was blessed by the inclusion of Looking tor Love and the omission (originally at least) of Here I Go Again. My best Whitesnake story is being picked up by Bernie Marsden when hitching a lift to a village hall party, and what a thoroughly nice man he is too.
