Good point Peter makes in never actually reaching for an AC/DC album. I happen to reach for the occasional album of theirs every now and again, but they all have one thing in common: Bon Scott.

@@miaajaniss YEH it was a bit of a shock to me when I gave it a proper listen. As it normally gets lumped in as a dud. But as you said, it def sits comfortably in the mid-tier.

It's all been said but for me it's still all about Bon and Australian culture of the '70s. They were a kick-ass rock and roll band but like Alice Cooper they had one of the greatest frontmen in rock. In addition though, Bon represented the new Australia, when it finally came of age and found its voice and youthful swagger. It's never taken any shit since. That was always the key to AC/DC. Enjoyed the show and the beers guys.

Hello Peter, Simon and Steven and greetings from Finland!
I think these are the best and worst albums for me.
Wildcard is definitely the most underrated album in the AC/DC catalog and I truly love the raw sound of it and the songs are so good, too! They might be the heaviest AC/DC ever made.
Take care and keep on doing these shows!

I might be in the minority here but I like “Fly On Wall”. Some of it might have to do with the fact that it came out when I first started buying cassettes and it has sentimental value to me.
Pete, in regards to beers from Vermont, I highly recommend the anything from the Fiddlehead Brewing Company.

In Brazil, Back in Black was released with the B side as the A side and vice-versa. Nobody ever took notice of that until the release of BiB on CD (with Hells Bells as opener).I mean, the LP backcover had the tracklist in random order and the first title in it was Back in Black. So, it made complete sense to think that Back in Black was the opener. After all, Highway to Hell, For Those... Dirty Deeds, all those albums start with the title track. And quite frankly, Back and Black and You Shook Me All Night Long sound like the perfect opneres, while Hells Bells and Shoot to Thrill (both more menacing) sound like the perfect B side openers. My 2 favs Powerage and HIghway to Hell, 2 least favs Rock or Bust and Blow up (although I love Two's Up). Wildcard: Ballbreaker

Great analysis , my favourite two no surprises being Highway To Hell , one of the first 10 albums I brought, along with Back In Black. Still remember going to the end of year school disco, headbanging to live version of Whole lotta Rosie. What is interesting is that While I have all AC/DC albums the last two are still sealed, brought them but never played them, maybe a topic for a future show, albums brought but never played, I got many in the collection

Apologies for the late explanation, just realised how to track comments, anyway why does this happen, maybe habit of just buying a groups releases, storing them up due to binge buying, sometimes wanting a cd for a while and when eventually get it lost interest or moved onto something else, just had a quick scout through A to D in the collection, here are some never opened, in my own walk of shame amongst the sealed copies, are the following, Ayreon - Transitus, Anderson Ponty Band, Kris Barras Band - The Divine and Dirty, Biters - The Future, Bullet Boys - From Out Of The Skies, Burning Rain - Face The Music, Caligula's Horse - Moments, The Darkness - Motorheart, Danger Zone - Closer To Heaven , Deep Purple- Long Beach 1976, Stockholm 1970, I could go on, hmmmm one day!

Glad to see you do another video on AC/DC Pete! My favorite band ever since I was a little kid, this is a fairly hard list to make but there are ones that stand out over others.
    Favorites:
Back in Black, Powerage & Let There Be Rock ( Had to pick the three, Highway To Hell almost made it 4. lol Hard to pick between those 4 for sure! )
    Least favorites:
Stiff Upper Lip & Blow Up Your Video
    Wildcard:
Power Up ( I was going to say Flick of the Switch or '74 Jailbreak but since they were picked, I'll pick the new album, lots of good songs on it, I was impressed when I heard it the first time. ) I can't really say I dislike any of there albums but some haven't aged as well as others. I like at least a few songs from every album they ever did.

Another great show. AC/DC have such brilliant songs, even on their poor albums. So this was really hard for me because I don't really listen to their albums but I do regularly listen to my AC/DC play list.
Favourites: Highway to Hell, Powerage & Back in Black. Partly because I have such great memories of seeing them at Hammersmith Odeon on both the Highway to Hell & Back In Black tours.
Least favourites: Fly on the Wall & Stiff Upper Lip.
Wildcard: '74 Jailbreak because it's my favourite AC/DC song. & after 45 years I still don't know whether "he made it out with a bullet in his back" means he died or escaped injured with a bullet in his back. (My friend Clive & I argued over this for weeks).

Where i came in with acdc was the first single i ever bought - Rock n Roll Damnation as seen on Top of The Pops 1978 - i purchased the single the next day at HMV Records in Glasgow. It must have been a Friday because Top of The Pops was always on BBC1 every Thusrday at 7pm. And thus the parent album Powerage is their greatest.

Love these panels and the banter and insights from these three gentlmen. In the past, they have compelled me to revisit my Judas Priest, Maiden, Kiss and other back catelogues. However, AC/ DC are one of those bands which i absolutely loved during my youth - If you want blood - the Glasgow Apollo recorded live album is in my humble opinion, one of the greatest live records ever. if we tell the truth, they have not released a truly great record since 1980 and that is a long time to coast of the glories of their past. However, i was surprised that not one of you mentioned the elephant in the room - that AC/DC were fantastic ... but only with Bon at the helm - the swagger, the voice, the lyrics ... everything we love about AC/DC is epitomised in Bon. Whilst i like Brian, AC/DC stopped being AC/DC on 19th February 1980.

As with many bands, my absolute favorite AC/DC album is If You Want Blood You've Got It. It's got a great selection of the Bon era tunes and the energy level is through the roof. Every song on there is its definitive version, Whole Lotta Rosie is unchained and bursting the 42-39-56 seams. But since you only ever consider the studio albums...
    2 favorites:
    2. High Voltage, US version since it's the only one I've ever had
    1. Powerage
AC/DC lost all their danger and most of their swagger when Bon died. Brian does a great job but he seems like one of the lads, you can go have a pint, talk about cars, and make it home to the Missus. But if you had a pint with Bon you'd loose count around 13 pints, wake up naked and bruised in jail with a scorching case of the Jack and if you ever make it back home you'll find the place a mess, your guns missing, your records scratched, your coke stash ravaged, the Missus passed out, and the cat pregnant.
    2 least favorites
    2. Ballbreaker
    1. Stiff Upper Lip
Both are decent album but I rarely pick them off the shelf. But that can be said about most of the Brian Johnson era albums.
    Wildcard:
    Bonfire box set
Play disc one on repeat and it could power every air conditioner in Texas for all eternity.
Also, gents, it has a handful of rarities. For more rarities check out Family Jewels, Backtracks, and I think one of you mentioned Plug Me In.

AC/DC shares something in common with bands like Led Zeppelin (hear me out, Simon, lol), Rush, and Metallica: bands that were heavily featured on radio where/when I grew up; And I don't mean two or three songs - I'm talking TONS of songs. Both Highway to Hell and Back in Black were frequently played in near-full, and plenty of other tracks - from albums before and after the above two (and quite a few of these got mentioned in this video) - were often heard. "Big Balls" and "Squealer"? Those two charmers? Yup. Heard 'em frequently 😉. I've never felt the need to own anything from AC/DC, but they were always good fun.
I'm on the same page as Simon regarding the constant repackaging, and I'm with Steven on albums; When I put one on, I listen from front to back. No skipping tracks.
    Great episode!

Where to start with one of the bands that started it for me, and were the first band I ever saw live, headlining at least...?
Well, my favourites I suppose, Powerage and Highway to Hell. Back in Black was runner up, I must say.
Least favourites, well, like all 3 of you, it could have been any two of that 90's era of 'Meh' releases, but I wrote down Blow Up Your Video and Ballbreaker before I listened, and I'll stick with those
Wildcard? Any of the live ones, maybe? I nearly went for Live From Atlantic Studios but I decided to do a Simon, cheat and pick 2. Their first, High Voltage, my Aussie vinyl with dog weeing on the generator, and their last, PowerUp, as its so damn good and doesn't outstay its welcome like Black Ice.

Least favourite: Rock or Bust, which is bloated and lacking in dynamics. Blow up Your Video, which simply leaves me cold and unenthusiastic.

I love Let There Be Rock and Powerage. After Mutt Lange got his 'commercial' hands on the band they nosedived into pop/ rock territory with only an occasional glimpse back to their glory days. Let's be honest Whole Lotta Rosie', 'Riff Raff' 'Sin City, 'Dog Eat Dog' and others from those 2 albums have never been bettered...not even close. I'm sure to receive criticism but can anyone really say they 'rocked' harder than on those 2 albums?

I want to defend Stiff Upper Lip. Took me lots of time, maybe about two decades to realise that I liked it. To me, it sounded weak and slow, now I get 'a sense of grip' whenever I play it. I thought you would start with the vast differences between pressings of the early albums. I thought Pete would be the only one with the international versions and the other 2 guys would be all about Albert originals. The international versions are the best, other than the messy leftovers of Jailbreak EP, but since they're an Australian band, the Albert versions are the go-to's. Same thing with Beatles and Stones - I go with the UK original versions. In America, there was a mall record chain that specialized in imports called Record World, they had the Albert versions a dollar cheaper than the American. I bought em new for 4.99 circa 81. I still need the Let There Be Rock with Crabsody in Blue. Should have bought duplicates cause those puppies go for over 100 now lol

Hmm. Flick of the Switch was my entry point into AC/DC(bought it when it came out), so it's always been a favorite of mine as well as being my #1 favorite Brian Johnson sung album.
    Two favorites:
    1. Highway to Hell - A classic. Ever song is a banger, no skips for me.
    2. Flick of the Switch - Much like Sabbath's Born Again, I didn't know this was an album I wasn't supposed to like. I listened to this recently and I do like the rawness of it. Dig the songs. As I stated earlier, my favorite Brian Johnson album.
    Least:
    1. Blow up Your Video - Way too many cheezball songs for me.
    2. The Razors Edge - I could go forever without having to hear that gawdawful "Thunderbutt" song again.
    Wildcard(s):
Who Made Who - I believe that this is the third AC/DC I bought. I actually really like the instrumentals and it introduced me to the Bon Scott era with the song "Ride On"... I LOVE that song. So as a soundtrack and "best of" it worked for me as I had little to no history with this band at the time.
Fly on the Wall - My second AC/DC album. Some good tunes and I liked the beefier guitar tone, but after this every album was meh to awful to me.

Interesting comments, I too don't reach for their albums as often as I should.
My favourites studio albums are: Highway to Hell and Blow Up Your Video
Least favourites are Stiff Upper Lip and Rock or Bust
Wildcard would be Bonfire box that has some outtakes, a live show from 79 and oddly Back in Black.
In reality I always choose If You Want Blood or ACDC Live to listen over any studio album, they're fantastic (except Jailbreak, I was bored of Angus taking 15 min to moon when I saw them at Wembley in 91, don't need that on a double cd). In spite of that, the '91 show is still in my top 10 concerts ever, they made Wembley Arena feel like a club, the whole crowd were so into the show. I've seen many shows at Wembley and similar sized halls but no other artist has come close to that atmosphere, it was that special.

I'm with Steven & Peter here. My two favourites are, and will always be, Highway To Hell and Back In Black. Back in the day, I had these on a C90 tape in the car and played them over and over. A perfect marriage of great songs brought to life by Mutt Lange's production magic. For Those About To Rock was the first album I bought, which I still have a lot of affection for, but it's a game of two halves in my opinion - first side is great but on side two the quality drops away. As for my two least favourites, I could pick anything from 1983 -2000 but would probly go with Ballbreaker & Blow Up Your Video. Brendan O'brien has recaptured some of the old magic on the last three albums. Black Ice for me is too long, so for my wildcard I'd go with Rock Or Bust, which in my opinion re-captures the groove that ran through the three Mutt Lange albums and is the natural successor to For Those About To Rock.

"Bonfire" is really the only release that had the outtakes. I think the only other ephemera is the live version of "T.N.T." that was the b-side (I think) of "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You" and "Big Gun" from the "Last Action Hero" soundtrack. "Big Gun" hasn't been on any official AC/DC album.

Favorites: Staying on party lines...Highway to Hell and Back in Black.
Least Favorites: Fly on the Wall and Ballbreaker
Ginger Wild Card: Flick of the Switch. This album gets a bad rap, but in my humble opinion, it's monumentally better than the albums on either side of it. There are a couple of stronger songs on For Those About To Rock, but FOTS is much more consistent to me.
Extra Wild Card: If You Want Blood; even if it's just for the version of Riff Raff on the record...holy crap...amazing.

First time I heard them on a radio, sometime end of 1978, I was in a second grade of high school. Late night radio show, DJ obviously just got a fresh copy of If You Want Blood... Luckily, my small radio cassette recorder Loewe was ready and with cassette in, so I missed just a few seconds. They played whole album at once. Those were the days. For whatever reason that was the loudest recording I had back in the day. And sound was great - for the small device. Still to this day my favourite AC/DC album, for studio records I would go for Highway to Hell. Quite a few I would consider as not a good ones, but I'll skip them. Alas, I over-recorded that cassette once I bought LP.

Another great show Back in Black and Highway to Hell my 2 favourites both are near to being the perfect album. Lost a bit of interest in AC/DC for a while as the '90s albums are a little average but last 3 albums are a big improvement. A great back catalogues of some great songs but some average /mediocre albums mixed with same excellent albums, a bit of an enigma I guess, love the band but not all their albums. A great live band an AC/DC concert is never dull but have never quite been able to match the magic of Back in Black. But I remain a fan always

Have to smile because all three summed up how I now feel about the AC/DC catalogue - I've never been a big fan, I have all the albums - what self respecting heavy rock/metal fan would have some if not many of them? - however I never listen to them.
I decided to go back to the start and listen to them all from High Voltage to Power Up. My favourites before doing so have changed slightly because I wanted to capture a bit more of their early stuff in one release. My least favourites were difficult to choose , however I went with the two that when I was listening to them I got bored and flicked through.
For my wildcard I was tempted to go with the Bonfire Box Set, however that would have meant disegarding the Brian Johnson years, and while the obvious choice could be Back in Black I never had that until I bought the Bonfire Box Set. In fact apart from most of the Bon Scott albums I didnt have any Brian Johnson albums until my local Our Price had an AC/DC fest where you could buy four CDs for the price of 2 and a half, so I decided to fill my catalogue - it was at the time of Black Ice, which I agree is a good return to some degree of good form and on listening without prejudice I have re-evaluated my feelings on the Brian Johnson years, which were tainted by how I felt when seeing them live, as I only ever saw them with Johnson (by the way- no relation) and I always felt they never communicated or tried to pull me in - I thought they were maybe a bit arrogant in going - 'we are the greatest as everyone always tells us, at least the music press do and you know all the songs so we dont need to talk to you.'
I agree with the sentiment that a lot of the albums between Flick of the Switch and Black Ice contain a lot of 'Meh!' as I found that after the first three or four songs they all sort of petered out.
So without further ado and any more waffle -
    My Favourites-
    Highway to Hell
If you Want Blood Youve Got it (nearly chose the Live in Paris set from the Bonfire Box)
    Least Favourites-
    Ball Breaker
    Stiff Upper Lip
    WildCard
AC/DC Live as even though the earlier Bon Scott songs are better on Youve got blood and the Paris live set in Bonfire the post Scott songs and the ones not on those other two (e.g. Dirty Deeds) are great on this.
I'd also jusy mention that you can recreate the Aussie HIgh Voltage by adding to the International High Voltage debut album tracks the Jailbreak 74 and some of the tracks on Backtracks - which I found is available to stream on Deezer, and actually although some of those arent what you'd call typical AC/DC - Love Song in particular - which may be why they were left off the international High Voltage, they are still very good mid 70's hard rock.

My two favourites ? Tough one was introduced to this band around 83? or so mainly through one of my big brothers record collection and a friend from school .....
To be fair i am going to Say POWERAGE and FLICK OF THE SWITCH to represent both eras of the band
Love HIGH VOLTAGE , LET THERE BE ROCK, DIRTY DEEDS , HIGHWAY , BACK IN BLACK , enjoy the Aussie HIGH VOLTAGE , TNT and the Aussie version of DIRTY DEEDS ( the one reissued in 1981) which i picked up all three on then expensive import vinyl around 84 Or so here in the UK
Like FTATR a lot and FLY ON THE WALL . Not that keen on BUYV ( saw them for the first time on that tour though- awesome!!) Don't mind RAZORS EDGE ( another great gig on that tour ) Don't like BALL BEAKER ( saw them again on that tour and it was a great show once again) or STIFF UPPER LIP .
BLACK ICE was ok , ROCK OR BUST - first three tracks good rest forgettable filler and do not mind POWER UP
Its not really a Bon Versus Brian thing and maybe its just nostalgia for something i will never get to see but in my opinion the song writing and energy was by and large just better on the first eight or so albums?
