MALAYSIA FOOD SERIES: Johor Bahru ANCIENT Bakeries + CHINESE Herb Roasted DUCK (I'm Backkkk)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 сер 2024
- I must say, I didn’t know much about Johor Bahru before coming here, but I must say I am so happy that I came. This is such a nice little city on the other side of Singapore. Makes me understand why Singaporeans come over here for a weekend get away and to grab some good food!
Hiap Joo Bakery, a spot that has been baking goods for over 100 years. They are most famous for their banana cake, but I have heard that they do a pretty darn good butter cake on Thursdays as well. Come early or be ready to wait! The banana cake has a great natural sweetness, while being light, and still a little moist. Best with coffee or tea.
Next up I went to Restoran Ya Wang Duck for their famous 10 Chinese herbal roasted duck. The duck had a great roast flavor, while tasting succulent and not too sweet. You will want to dig down into the gravy to experience the actual herbal taste. I found once everything was mixed together it made for a great balanced roast meat bite.
I headed to my second bakery of the day, this one famous for their chicken curry puffs. Typical me move, I ended up buying lots of things. Definitely for sure the chicken curry puff is the best, as the actual wrapper was more flavor packed as well as the filling.
Last up, IT Roo cafe, apparently home to one of the best chicken chops in all of Malaysia. Now, I will say it is a really good chicken chop, but it just really isn’t my kind of meal. However, if you would love something like this then this is a good place to get it!

Don't worry about that Max, You're still a handsome man even though you're chubby. 😄
haha just got this belly and cheeks now
We are there becos of the price not really the food is better then sg.
@@Macoi24 I have been truly perplexed where you put all that food in every episode!! Have to say it was real funny to see you go for a chicken chop - the asian's offering of western food to the locals who think it's a real novelty 🤣 It's what we eat when we have had enough of local food. A tip: there are many places that serve the same dishes, follow the chinese people, where you find it's crowded or long queues, that is where that dish will be well represented and one of the best! Never eat at an empty or near empty restaurant, unless it's just the wrong time of the day before the crowd arrives ;) Love your channel but seriously, you must have a fiery metabolism, just like your love of heat in every dish 🌶🌶🌶🥵
I fell in love with Malaysia and their delicious food. I am definitely visiting Malaysia next year.
you and me both! See you there hahaha
I look forward to yr Malaysia food series b/c Malaysia has some of the best eats in terms of quality, freshness and variety in cuisines Malay, South Indian, halal, Chinese (Cantonese/Hokkien), Peranakan and local Malaysian. Unbelievable and unpretentious food of Michelin quality from mom & pop eateries, bakeries, cafes, hawker carts and food stalls, expertly prepared, tasty, clean and super cheap. I miss eating roti canai, Hainan chicken, nasi kandar, curry puff, laksa and other local eats. Yum!
haha well if you miss all of those, then you are going to really enjoy this food series I have coming:)
It awesome very good food thank you for sharing your beautiful food enjoy your holiday there thank you

Sarah J. Egg, onion roti very average. Basic roti was nice. One of the most tender and just flavorful chicken curries I’ve had. Just needed more sambal or spice.

Wow, happy to see you enjoying the food at JB. Drive to JB every 3 months and never get enough from the tasty food there. Probably you can drop by Malacca(Melaka) Malaysia or visit Singapore too with your crew.
Yeah I already have some Singapore videos and my Melaka videos are being released right now too. Oh and it's just me. No crew, ha!
Awesome!
You can go for more such as Restoran Yit Foh for their Wanton Noodles w Char Siew + wanton + their special Chili sauce, Restoran Al-Rahmat for their Thosai(Dosa) was an Indian dish since you love Roti Canai w curry and you might want to try Thosai or Masala Thosai.
Sincerely love your videos!

Chicken chop, pour with blackpepper sauce 😋

You chopstick skill is way better than mine though I'm a Chinese 😅

My Sweet Boy, they invented pasta-saus by done tomato’s, sometimes they even make puree of every food thats done. Cooking food in oil is in Azia the only way to kill all the bacteria growing by heat. Nothing to be happy about. Love you, Hug, Hendrik

matters where in malaysia. Also matters on the type of roti prata.

Hey Max I had to watch this again. It’s a great blog to see again and you enjoying the spicy hot food.
Roast Duck & Pork rice plate delicious 😋

Max McFarlin let me ask you something, just curious! you have traveled so many places part of ASIA countries. Which country by far is your favorite food? I hope you have more subscribers follow you on your VLOG. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!~ Hmmmm, I would really have to think about that. I am partial to countries that have meals centered around rice and lots of say curries or dishes. Also has to be a cuisine that has spice in it.
Max McFarlin me personal think VN is your winner, why? Because all of the dishes you have eaten in VN with a smiley face 😂 or your head spinning around lol
you so lucky tastes all food🙂😋

Welcome back to Malaysia dude...
glad to be back
😊🙏🏻🙏🏻
🙏🙏🙏
Rm17 for a plate of rice with charsiew and roasted duck. Too expansive
I give the price should be $10 to $12 depend on the rent and which area.
Rip off Head Hunter - trust me I am a Malaysian I rather cook mate
Hancy :)
You did not visit Melaka?
i did
RM17 for that roasted duck rice?! That is ridiculous!!!
Are you inferring the price was too expensive or too cheap?
