They really made it seem like Alchemy was just nerfing the over powered cards from the tier 1 decks. They ended up making a format that’s way more powerful than standard.
I mean if you add cards to a format with the intention of influencing the meta of said format chances are the powerlevel will rise even if you nerf certain cards (see MH1 and MH2 singlehandidly defining the modern meta game)
Oh no! That means there might be dozens of good decks instead of 3! Whatever shall we do?! Lol

@@NoName-fc3xe I’m not complaining. I like it and have been playing only Alchemy. I just think it’s funny that it was advertised as a nerf but ended up being wayyyy more powerful haha.

It's a fun deck, I through in an angel of destiny for shenanigans.
Seeing how I can't seem to be able to brew a decent Mono Green deck, I've tried my half-arsed Orzhov Clerics pile with half the rares necessary, maybe two days after Alchemy released. I regularly hit 5-7 wins on events (57% wins over 150 matches). Definitely worth giving a shot even if you've only got half of each cards necessary. Yes, you will lose to fully complete Clerics decks, S-Tier black based sac decks, and Azorius control, but oh my, the rest of the match-ups is smooth sailing. Yes, Esper seems OP, but Orzhov is definitely good enough, if you don't have all the dual lands in the world and the four mimics casually sitting there in your collection.

I will mention, Brittle Blast was added in Alchemy and is a pretty good answer to the GY nonsense clerics can do. Gonna have to start running that I think.
@@nutmegdonkey Yeh, there are some good cards to throw 1 or 2 of in a deck that aren't so pure hate they end up being worthless in other games.

Righteous Valkyrie is one of my favourite cards in recent memory!
I just made my wife watch the original Matrix movie, and I couldn't stop chuckling even she says "not like this", and I tried convincing her that I heard people other than you say it cause it didn't make sense to her.
I chuckled with the Cave draw, 6 lands in a row. It almost begs the question whether mulligan matters, no?
Game @9:30 you could have started with Shattered Sanctum tapped into Brightclimb Pathway (on white) into Mistgate Pathway (on blue), then worst case T4 was a Hive tapped, best case an untapped black source. I'm very picky on land sequencing ;)
Btw you'd already have the black mana source when playing Sanctum on T1.
Lol let's rebalance standard for diversity and then print the most busted white 4 drop ever (looking at you inquisitor captain)

Haha CGB 3 straight lands at around 30% draw rate of lands. You can calc the probability of that happening like this:
0.32 * 0.31 * 0.30
0.02976 or 3% chance.
First time, 32% chance of drawing land. Second time, 31% chance, etc etc.

I love your videos, CGB. you play fun, (mostly) competitive decks, and I like your swagger, and spikyness (and let's be real, obnoxiousness) and overall kobra kai attitude. They make me laugh and glee along the destruction of aggro monoSOMETHING.
But my man, if you're gonna put a pre recorded merch plug right after the intro, is there really a need to also record one at the top of the intro? i really hope your metal token enterpreneurship is sucessfull, and that you get your bag. But you know, my two cents: 2 ads that really cut into the flow of the video not 5 minutes apart from one another cannot be described as something other than "overdoing it".
If this was just a case of poor creator-editor communication, please disregard everything but the "i love the videos and attitude" part. If not, that's something to think about.

With there being so many ETB effects in the format right now, I wonder if the white creature, think it’s called proctor something, would be good. It would shut down this cleric deck, mono black sac would be forced to kill it, it would stop the ETB of the 4/4 dragon on turn 3… just a thought
Strict proctor would be a good sideboard card for sure in a tempo tech. But it would hurt you as well if you played it in mono white because there’s a lot of ETB effects there too. The hushbringer would be even better here but unfortunately it rotated out.
@@ashkanlion23 Yeh, I tried to run it in a control shell and it didn't work. I didn't realize it didn't work with creatures dying like hush bringer did, so it's pretty useless vs black sac

I can't make this deck work AT ALL. I don't know why you were so lucky with your opponents but I've played about 15 games so far and almost every single one, upwards of 12 or so, was either blue bounce with cards like Cyclone summoner and that horrible 4 cost bounce spell, or Dimir control, or Azorious control.
Before I started playing this deck everyone I faced was creature based. Now they're all pure control.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist but SOMETHING is up.

If you are worried about the creature count, Sigardian Evangel conjures copies of otself that will be counted by the Inquisitor when they go to the graveyard

2:45 I'm surprised that just after explaining how having multiple copies of most things in this deck is very beneficial you ask for a good 5 mana cleric and never considered Moritte of the Frost. I suppose it is off-color...
Running one 5 drop copy of Hofri Ghostforge to sac to Captain takes this to a whole new broken level

Clerics are broken now for sure. They have waaay too much consistency.
Made a spirit deck with a couple Lunarch's and a couple Cleric Class cards in it. 33% of the time I win with Katilda. 33% of the time I lose. 33% of the time my opponent insta-concedes because they think I'm playing this horse shit when I play the either of the aforementioned cards on turn one.
I'm not kidding. People hate this deck, and I'm one of them.

At 8:51, why does the opponent have an extra card in hand after casting the captain? Is that a visual bug or something? Shouldn't the other card be put in the library and the brutal cathar on the battlefield? The opponent has two cards in hand when the captain trigger is on the stack, and afterwards they have three.
Seek adds to hand, so the cards go library - hand - battlefield and library - hand - library
He should try Mardu Clerics with Hofri so you have your 5 mana cleric, it's been my go to deck ever since Hofri and Venerable Warsinger came out in STX and it allows you to run boardwipes where you still maintain most of your board. If you run Orah and Pyre it's just a waste not to run a 5 cmc hit. You can still go for Angel of Destiny and bin one of the captains. Personally I've found Voice of the Blessed to be pretty awkward in too many situations so I run just 2 and use the other spots for Angel of Unity. One way you can tackle the Captain misfiring is by using Skyclave Cleric for your mana base.
4 clerics of life's bond, 4 lunarch veteran and 1 plains the rest are rares lol
I include a 1 of Drana, and Valkerye Harbinger for the Pyre

I feel like playing creature decks it hinders you every time with a spam of lands or no lands at all but in the end I still feel like it's an Algorithm that you need to find the right cards for with the right amount of lands or you get flooded out easily or you do not get any land cards at all. I've played MTG in irl and I never have this issue with the same setup I do with MTG Arena. Their shuffler system is just straight up broken. I've had a match where I drew 12 cards and found no lands with only 3 land cards on the field.
I’d also try out ollenbock escort as another 1 drop cleric
Perhaps also Valkyrie harbinger for top end.
Add red and 1 Hofri at 5 too.... it is so good, the 5 drop is needed.
Just gave it a try, my first Alchemy experience, never played it before. Easy 5-0 in the event. I might reconsider my opinion on this format, lol - not sure if it feels that great being on the receiving end of Righteous Valkyrie swarm though.
Teleportation Circle with Inquisitor Captain is horrible…so possibly worth a few here. You don’t get to do the horribly frustrating Brutal Cathar thing though, which I’ve seen in gross Bant versions.

Why don't cleric decks seem to run talborax anymore? Like orah it seemed like such a good way to protect yourself from removal and was so good with pyre..
Taborax is good with pyre. Against removal is kinda meh. Cus why not just kill him?
@@jonnymario771 ya you're right, I ment more for board wipe type removal than targeted. The card just seems so good in the deck, yet no one seems to play it anymore. It's mind boggling.
This format is too overpowered and stupid . In my experience comes down to luck as I never seem to get the good extra cards 80% of the time while my opponent gets everything. They “nerfed” cards? I call bullshit!
And some evangels. So you can discard the copies to keep up the creature count

You can't hit an Inquisitor Captain with Inquisitor Captain. Making it less to cast doesn't change the mana value. It must have been a Glasspool Mimic.
Not sure about that. Pretty sure the cmc very well may factor perpetual changes to cost. Because they are perpetual it could be argued that their actual cmc is 1 less.
To be fair I'm just speculating, I'm not actually sure how the arena rules interprets that

Played against this yesterday, and was running control, this deck can really grind.
Probably my most hated deck to face right now. Absolutely, utterly ridiculous. Just a consistent train of chonky angels that get out of hand every single time unless the opponent’s deck whiffs in a major way.

20 or more. Run bigger deck then 60. Part of making the deck bigger do a search for the word draw. Tribe deck with bloodline Pretender. They are trying to hard to make Alchemy work. The new rare/mythic scream out for the small egos to bust open the wallet.
I honestly feel like there's something wonky that happened with the shuffler. I have a 22-land mono-white Alchemy deck that I flood out with frequently and I think I've only been mana screwed with just once. I am drawing more land with that 22-land deck more than I am with my 26 and 27 land control decks! Never seen anything like this before.
Just ran this deck about ten times, I would just drop the mimic, I see no point in it, it does nothing and causes more clumps then it does any benifit, then when you draw three in a row, very low odds i know but happened in one of my ten, with nothing else really you just concede
Mimic is OP what’re you talking about? Your essentially adding in extra copies of bombs in this deck. For 3 mana. Plus a land to play if nothing else.
@@conorburkeTVofficial So far for me they have been more of a hinderance, and I’ve had more dead hands cause I get just blue and black or blue and white.
The current meta is so dependent what is in your opening hand and this much trouble for one blue card I haven’t seen it yet.

Can't bring myself to play alchemy. Just looks like the intro of a new format to get more $$$ from the player base. The cost is just way too much of an inhibitor
