That quadruple double, Larry left the game after the 3rd quarter, saying they'd already done enough damage, so we know he easiily would've had more steals. It's quite possible he would have set the steals record for a single game if he had played the 4th quarter. He also said "yeah I don't care, I could get a quadruple double any time I want."

Great breakdown and commentary bro. Bird's game would translate into any era, especially in today's league. With the spacing, lax defense, and the three point line being closer than it was in the 1980's he'd be ridiculous. He'd also lead the league in technical fouls because today's soft guys would complain to the ref's LOL. I have Bird at #3 all time. Great reaction!
Larry is my choice of GOAT over other worthy considerations based on a criterion not even noted here...and where I give him the nod over MJ, Wilt, Magic, Kareem..etc... And that's leadership in the locker room. Parrish has a unique perspective because he played with Larry and MJ...and he leaves no doubt who comes out on top in THAT area. Larry would call his team OUT if he felt the effort wasn't there....himself included. But, it was more than that. If a PLAY wasn't done perfectly, he'd say something IN THE MOMENT...and he made sure everyone was involved in the game. He gave his teammates confidence...and the desire to use every second to make the W....without being a bully or using undermining intimidation. Something MJ struggled with. 😊
Thank you so much for this reaction. So sad Larry's off court back injury ended his career way too early. Also, his father committed suicide when Larry was in high school going into college, saying that the family would be better off. He was just a warrior, period. Lol. Please check out all of Larry's videos. A deep dive on him is a gift! Deep dive on Magic and Larry's genuine friendship is a must, because I never knew they had a great off court friendship too! And I'm OLD! Lol. Magic said Larry was more upset about Magic's HIV diagnosis than him. There were tears. Their friendship went beyond basketball. Wonderful story.
Bird, beyond numbers, inspired the best players, I'm sure Le Bron saw him play, ask Jordan about not only learning trash talking, but about becoming a better player, ask Magic, Ewing, all black guys talk marvelous about him. He inspires, and that intangible counts more than any stats.
Might b the most impressive stat. Quadruple dbl. 3/4s. Took himself out because " he did enough damage " a rare man. The league today should take notes
Larry was 17-11 in the regular season vs Jordan, and 6-0 in the Playoffs. Jordan's 63 point single game playoff record was against the Celtics, but Larry had the better team.
I would argue that bird was the better captain and that game where he tried to one man army bird was when he was finally taught the importance of team play. Parrish was on an interview and said he hated the team environment of the bulls under Jordan and was glad to be traded liking birds teamwork focused lead by example style was better.

The hate between Jordan and Isiah Thomas started back when they Pistons used to hard foul Jordan during the Bad Boys years. Then when the Bulls finally won Isiah and the starters walked off the court with 2 min left and refused to shake hands with Jordan and the rest of the Bulls. Jordan has publicly bashed him as having no class and so on ever since and yes, Jordan agreed to be on the Dream Team with the stipulation that Isiah be left off. @BU TV Haha no problem bro! It's funny I just finished rewatching The Last Dance so all that is fresh in my mind lol. As far as that interview clip of Isiah, I don't think he was taking a shot at Jordan. Isaiah turned his back on Magic when he was diagnosed with HIV and don’t think for a minute that wouldn’t have upset Bird as well. Thomas also agreed with Rodman when he said Bird was overhyped because he’s white. I know he basically had to because he was the team captain but he lost a LOT of respect when he did that. Combine that with the physical style of the bad boy Pistons and the fact that they walked off the court without shaking hands after losing to the Bulls and it’s no wonder he was left out. I’m not sure why he was surprised. Btw, the coach offered to put Bird back in so he could try for the quad but Bird said he’d done enough damage and wouldn’t go back in.
