  • Here, we’ll look at some common weak acid equilibrium problems. For more resources, check out tdwscience.com/apchem
    Equilibrium questions are some of the most common problems to show up in the free response section of the AP Chemistry text. These weak acid equilibrium problems involve calculating the Ka or acid dissociation constant, and then completing an ICE table, to determine the initial, change, and equilibrium concentrations of the acid and the conjugate base. We then use the Henderson Hasselbalch equation to solve for the concentration of buffer components. This is a calculation that involves the pH as well as the pKa. This buffer solution was made by mixing a weak acid (formic acid) with the sodium salt of its conjugate base.

      @@tdewitt451 Hello Tyler, We have been watching your videos on electrochemistry (galvanic/voltaic cells, electrolysis, etc.). Very good.
      Would you be able to create a very detailed video explaining the chemistry of lead-acid batteries, with all relevant equations. The aim is to understand exactly how and why lead-(sulfuric) acid batteries deteriorate to the point of not being able to ‘hold’ charge any longer. A large part of the problem seems to be related to the state quality? / quantity? of the electrolyte.

    Hi Tyler! This video really helped me, thank you (:
    Also, for part b is it possible to just use -lg sqrt (Ka x [H+]) as a short cut? Instead of doing the ICE table? Since [H+] is 0.15 anyway
    Thank you!

    • @jee-lysis233
      @jee-lysis233 2 роки тому

      Always just use the regular formula,you need not to remember all the shortcuts. The major formula could make several shortcuts according to the asked thing in the question.

    9:07 why is x negligible? is it a chemistry concept thing (a small Ka would lead to small amount of change) or something more related to arithmetic (since the whole Ka equation is equal to 1.78 x 10^-4, a small value)

    • @skylardean4540
      @skylardean4540 4 місяці тому +1

      You're onto it. Because Ka is so small, we know that the reaction is highly reactant favored, so X has to be very small.
