    Cotto is my favorite fighter, I box in the amateurs and I watched cotto to film study. I would watch all his early fights. I film studied him because my style is similar and after a while he grew on me as my favorite fighter. My favorite punch is the left hook to the body/liver. But I'll never have the power he possessed because he is actually left handed and fights out of an orthodox stance, and I'm a righty. I wish I could throw a hook to the body with my right hand and be able to nail the liver, but that's impossible because of the liver being on the person's right side.( for those that don't know) Miguel cotto leads with his dominant hand being a lefty gives him a very powerful left hook. I noticed in his later fights in his career he seemed to get away from using the left hook as often. But I would have liked to see Freddy roach as his trainer way earlier in his career. Freddie roach was bringing back cottos left hook ,I feel that roach was an awesome trainer for him but he was loyal to evengalisto cotto (may have mis spelled his uncles name). But I wish Freddie roach could have worked with cotto way earlier. I also like to double up my left hook to the body after throwing a 1-2. I would use cottos 1 then double left hook to the body, then I would take a page out of Tysons book and follow up with an left uppercut to the head. So I mixed and matched that combo I got from 2 fighters (jab head-left hook body-left hook body-left uppercut upstairs). I found a lot of success with that because 4 left punches in a row because my opponent is anticipating a right hand.

    • @mini_worx
      @mini_worx 2 роки тому +3

      Yeah I'm Puertorican and even I don't think there's a "Puertorican Left Hook".
      You could say Cotto, in his early stages was extremely good and efficient with it, although in my opinion, he got away from it towards the end of his career.
      Trinidad wasn't necessarily known for the left hook only as Cotto was in his days so, although I do think Trinidad is definitely the stronger puncher, he wasn't a left hook type of guy.
      Zayas is the future. He idolizes Cotto and I see a desire to incorporate the left hook in his repertoire. Hopefully the kid makes a career out of it.
      But yeah, there's isn't any specific Puertorican thing. Many, many great champions who all fought differently. The one true characteristic was that they were all warriors.

    Ive heard the name "Puerto Rican left hook" a few times since i live in Puerto Rico but no Puerto Rican use it. Its more of a way that other fighters from around the world use to describe a fighter, like if i where to say " hey your next opponent is Puerto Rican so watch out for that left hook" that type of thing. Same goes for other fighters as well. Like if your fighting a mexican or a Japanese people say things like" your in for a hell of a match" or like " get ready to stand there and fight it out, since most Mexican and Japanese fighters come at you none stop. You can say that cubans and Philippians are in general south paws with great movement and a great jab. Or how most russian fighters are very smart and technical. But thats just what ive seen so i might be wrong.

    Our people need to stick together and go back and rebuild our homeland. We must promote the sport better among our young people in a way that instead of selling drugs, they dedicate themselves to improve physically and mentally with boxing or any form of athletics, education in general. We must show the youth that by following a better way of life, they will be rewarded. Demonstrate to them that by they improving themselves, others will follow. Who ever you are, if by blood you are Boriqua, go back and buy land and try to develop a business that will benefit the community.
    On a side note, Miguel Cotto is cemented as one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport.

      Umm..no..cotto was good, really good.
      Trinidad was great and was a force to be reckoned with.
      But to this day, there is and never will be another Puerto Rican fighter like the late and GREAT, Hector Camacho!
      That man came out of the hood of East Harlem, El Barrior and was a phenomenal fighter. Speed, Power, Charisma, Heart.. unfortunately, he had some bad habits outside of the sport which could have destroyed his career early, but that didn't even break him.
      It just happened over time with a lot of child hood trauma. That's life for many. Some can over come indefinitely, some can't. Doesn't define them as a human being.
      Long live the best Puerto Rican fighter ever to this day, HC!

      We are in a sad time of living. I pray very hard, and I was never religious. I watched the Camacho's mother and many others mourn severally, and it's heartbreaking brother. Heartbreaking to lose someone like that.
