I still love the idea of xenomorphs coming from their own hive planet and were discovered by the space jockeys, collected for their bioweapon potential
I think that was the original premise when they were discussing a sequel to aliens 86 back in the late 80s ... dark horse comics even went down that route in a story where Newt and Hicks survive...
@@TheMagusOfTheMagnaCarta I hear ya..I’ve just started reading the dark horse comics from the 90s since the Romulus trailer dropped
If the alien is a bio-weapon, which seems more likely, then the idea of a "hive planet" just doesn't work. You wouldn't put a weapon you created in another place for others to find, that makes no logical sense.
They were much scarier knowing things like that were out there and just existed naturally and were not a Frankenstein monster created.
These films derailed the original concept of Alien and Aliens.
Mr H is spot on. The Prometheus ship was built sparing no expense. The Nostromo ship was built by the shipyard/contractor that offered the lowest bid to build it.
The Nostromo could also have been 100 years older.
@@NerdLifts
Good point. There are plenty of ships, commercial and naval, which are many decades old but still in use today. The Nostromo was just a tug, so why scrap even an unglamorous workhorse if it still can do its job?
If i owned an oil company would people expect my yacht to look like an oil tanker?
Exactly.
It might be the size of one
It's like a piece of hardware runs better than a computer programs. I think they mention that in aliens when Ripleys being interviewed by the corporation. The nostromano was just a big cargo ship with a backwards and forwards button. No need for overcomplicated technology.
I think where Ridley went wrong was making the prequels about a bipolar android instead of making those movies strictly about the engineers. I believe that he should've just made one movie about the original juggernaut, how it got there, what went wrong and who sent the distress signal but instead we got movies about a bipolar android.
Yep the synth focus ruined them for me. I know the synths are a big thing in this universe but I'm here for the Aliens.
it should have been space marines...lots of space marines...the video game aliens dark descent should have been a movie too...that had a decent story with space marines...i dont want idiots or simps or betas or cucks...i want space marines and bad assery and adultism...everything is being kidified and using shock value cuz they suck at creating...they can only destroy
As bipolar we do not claim the android. We do not claim those movies either. They're utter tosh!
@@Gribbstar I just don't understand what he was thinking. Sometimes I think that he was just trying to sabotage the franchise, especially after the alien is cooked comment that he said in an interview. Prometheus should have been strictly about the engineers and the original juggernaut.
Totally
I disagree with the statement that the upper echelons of humanity were on the Prometheus.
On the contrary, the crew was composed by the biggest ragtag bunch of bumbling idiots, actively competing on who's the stupidest of the lot!
Am I the only one who thinks the original “jockey” in Alien was twice the size of the “jockeys” in Prometheus? I don’t think it was explained that I remember.
Yes, u are right.. We still don't know who is this space jockey
It's not just a thing you think, it's also just true, the pilot was significantly larger than the Engineers in Prometheus. It was never explained and just a weird plot hole when Prometheus and Covenant were new, but since then we've seen other pilot-like creatures in Dark Descent, where there's a whole Giger-esque city of grown biomechanoids in league with the design of the pilot. So the doubling down on the original Engineer lore has set it in stone more or less that there's just different kinds out there. Like even the Engineers in Covenant were totally different from the ones on LV-223, and we know they went really heavy on the biological engineering tech tree even if the juggernaut in Prometheus wasn't to the same design specs.
So, the discrepancy is never explicitly explained but based on what we've seen it's pretty obvious that there are branches of Engineer culture and technology out there that really was exactly what Giger said they were, biomechanoids that were grown rather than built. It's entirely possible the pilot from the original alien was never a naturally born Engineer to begin with, but was a living biomechanoid specifically created just to pilot that ship, which then is like... well, yeah, of course the size of it isn't going to match ordinary natural born Engineers wearing spacesuits.
Ridley Scott and that writer from lost ruined Prometheus
@@tedbundy2268 yes.. Prometheus was ruined all though was an axcellent idea.. Covenant later, put the last stone on the project.
@@tedbundy2268
There was an initial script for
Prometheus which was written before the Lost writer got involved and fucked it up, it’s wildly better than what got released
I still like how there was an alien skull in the trophy room at the end of preditor 2
Predators have been hunting aliens for thousands of years... what extra information do you need?
Yep that was the first thing I remember that possibly tied the two universes together.
AvP is not related to Alien anymore, they are and have been a separate franchise since the early 2000's.
When you start trying to explain the origins (like Dr Who) of an old franchise, the mystery which made it so brilliant in the first place, goes and turns to utter shite.
Yup like Highlander 2 and Highlander The Source
Then recycles the biggest complaint about repeating the same story. 😂😂😂
it doesn't have to. it COULD have been pretty cool... the comics made it pretty cool with the space jockeys and it even deepened the lore. They just suck at this. That's all there is to it. They're creatively bankrupt and suck at this.
Also, when your characters are just unbelievably dumb, it makes the whole movie feel silly. I mean, you have scientists in prometheus going up to an alien creature and sticking their hands out trying to pet it... or the people in Covenant walking around on an alien planet without protection and then getting infected by alien spores. The first Alien movie actually felt like real people stuck in a terrible situation for the most part. In Prometheus and Covenant, it felt like characters who were intentionally written to be stupid so the Aliens would have an easy time offing them.
@@simonphoenix3789exactly. they just suck at writing and have no creativity. It's that simple. They are AWFUL at their jobs and have ruined a franchise because of it. your comments here are just the tip of the iceberg.
There were so many glaring problems with Prometheus it's hard to know what order to list them in. Taking a nineteen foot tall juggernaut who was clearly NOT a seven foot tall bald dude in an elephant suit, and trying to make it a human, was ridiculous. And that conversation in the meeting room about where they were going and what they were doing? That would have taken place on earth BEFORE they left. No one would have signed up for a mission with zero info ahead of time, secrets or no secrets. How would the people with different specialties even know in what capacity they would be needed? And who the heck would play "nice doggy" with an alien serpent that just wriggled out of some slime? Oh, and those cave diagrams showing just a few stars? There could have been a thousand possible places in the night sky where that was located. The silliness just goes on and on, even if the med-pod cesarean birth scene was pretty good.
How about retcon the deaths of Ripley, Newt, Hicks, and Bishop from Alien 3
That's a part of the cancelled alien 5 movie
Would have been the best course of action I believe. I don't hate Alien 3 but I still don't think it was the sequel anyone wanted after Aliens.
this is set between Alien and Aliens. Would need a sequel to Aliens to fix that problem.
the longer cut of alien 3 is a totally different feeling and is not bad at all but the theatrical release sucks and all the other alien films suck...everyone wants a true sequel to aliens with more space marines but they keep putting out crap over and over...its not rocket science@@street1008
Alien 3 was a good end for these characters.
In the old movie the engineer sat in the seat looked massive compared to the Prometheus one for some reason
Yes, the engineer looks way taller than in Prometheus. The seat also looked ancient. Like thousands or hundreds of thousands of years old.
In the old movie the space jockey looked like a cool alien and not a big white guy.
The actual real world reason is when they went to do prometheus they realized the engineer would need to be about 15 feet tall to match the scale from alien.
They shortened it to make it more practical to shoot and also easier for a human to portray.
Another point of comparison between Prometheus/covenant and Nostromo. Was the writing quality of the crew's characters. Nostromo were all competent and well written. 50% of Prometheus were muppets and the covenant crew couldn't organise a root in a brothel.
The supposed creation of the Xenomorph by David was my biggest complaint, not to mention the xenomorph being shoehorned in for the sequel to Prometheus.
While I didn't hate Prometheus, Covenant made me just want to forget any chance of a good prequel to the Alien movies and feel they are best left forgotten.
Agreed, the sequel should've been Engineer focused. Not doing that was a failure to follow up on the story they started with the 1st film.
Prometheus was a divisive movie and the studio / director just bailed on the idea altogether. It's a travesty really. There were some really good concepts in Prometheus we wanted to see fleshed out.
But, all the studio heard were the loud "WTF was that!? We just want facehuggers like the old Aliens movies", that's how we ended up with the terrible Covenant.
But Prometheus was never supposed to "just another Aliens movie". Thats why it's not called "Aliens: Prometheus" like the other movies
I never thought the Xenomorph evolved naturally, since the first film ive always assumed they were made by the space jockeys for a war beyond human comprehension.
That’s what the magazine that came with with alien in 1979 that gave the backstory of the space jockey made it sound like they basically load the eggs on to the juggernaut and use it as a biological warfare to eradicate a planet quickly
Given they had biological ships it seems plausible
Correct. Xenomorph evolving naturally doesnt make any sense or fit with observations of evolution as we know it.
Yeah but it's insulting to say the android David created Xenomorphs. It ruins all the mystery, while in reality, no explanation for their evolution was ever required. They were cooler and scarier without knowing anything about their origins.
@@makinbacon919David didn’t create the Xenomorph. He created the Praetomorph.
Yes the aliens explained videos are back
We are so back
WHat annoyed me was changing the entire way that Aliens spread themselves, the whole spores thing in particular was stupid IMO.
I agree with you
I personally really liked Prometheus & Alien Covenant. I think it was an inspired idea to focus on the Engineers. It's sad that the third entry will probably now never be made
The problem is thinking we need the “mystery” of the alien origins unraveled.
I’ll be happy if they never show another engineer again.
In the comics the Predators created the Aliens to be the perfect game, the perfect hunt and it all got a bit out of control. I liked that idea, citing that the Predators are older than the Engineers. But i also like the fact that the Engineers worshipped the Aliens as gods, seeing them as the perfect being.
Space jockey all the way for me. The Dark Horse comics were interesting but a mystery we're too late to solve and an intelligence too inhuman to understand that's campfire spooky.
This. Like a million times this. Overexplaining is the plague of Hollywood franchising. The best thing about the original alien movie was the sense of absolute what-the-fuckery. You can not live up to the collective expectations of generations of fans. Don't try to pander to the crowd. Instead let the mystery work for you. Let people theorycraft and nerd over every little detail they can, between the lines they'll write a better script than you can ever think of.
The engineers are the best part of this franchise are you crazy.
To the original comment, you've absolutely boiled it down to the source for me. The mystery. I didn't have to know where exactly Jaws was to be afraid of it, similar thing with what/where/why the xenomorphs are.
i will be fine as long as they don't take their helmets off again
i dont dare to get my hopes up
dont...most of the cast is teenagers and it appears the last survivor will be that one teen girl they want to be the teen ripley....thats not going to work at all...theyre missing the adultism and the grit ripley had but also her feminine side was just as appearing with newt and her motherly instincts coming in...hollywood cant even tell you what a woman is...mama bear strength is a real thing in real life...weve seen mothers lift up cars to get their babies...weve seen them fight off bears in their backyard to protect their kids...so its all believable...i dont expect hollywood to be able to do this cuz they hate family and dont understand family
plus its a chance pedowood can get more teen actors to foddle with...its no coincidence everything has teens in it now
i do expect the gore to be intense...there will be a scene they rip a face hugger out of someones throat and the acid spills all over her and inside her...itll be a very very gross scene that most people will walk out of most likely....gna remind me of that scene in the move the stand where everyone throws up in the theater same time
They missed out on Alien Covenant
They should of made one of the Aliens come out of one of the guys arse. The most horrific arse evacuation in history.
Cinema gold that would of been
Maybe Mel Brooks can make Spaceballs 2 with a scene like that?
🤔
Comparing the Nostromo to the Prometheus is like comparing a semi truck to a Tesla.
I know right it's basically a coal train made for one job probably on the cheap then u have Prometheus basically if Elon Musk decided to live in space with unlimited resources to make a home 😂
True but that is a 30 year difference.
Hahah that’s funny. Yeah, we’ll always choose a big truck!
I agree to this, Prometheus really sucked.
@@johnwilliamson7785
Hehe 🙂
Well I'm one of Aliens 79-97 biggest fans! I absolutely loved Prometheus done by the master Ridley Scott. I agree with Ridley as he had stated, you already had 6 movies with the Aliens chasing humans around he wanted to explore the beginning and where they came from. And he did a amazing job on both movies.
yeah marketing campaign in full swing. Lure as many as possible from the previous prometheus run, disenchant noone, we need as many purses as possible
Another point to consider with Alien is the crew was sleeping through most of the journey, the ship quarters don't need to be anything more than bare bones functional.
So the 'Major Fan Complaint' was the tech that was used in Prometheus compared to Alien?
Yeah, I don't think that was a major complaint. The new movies had bigger problems than the clean tech used. It's based in a different era. It's like flares for pants. They were in fashion in the 1970's, then they went out of fashion, now they seem to be coming back. That's just superficial stuff.
The tech used in the original could be easily explained away, maybe as tech regression. See Dune. Or the company being cheap as you mentioned.
The script however, could not be explained away. It's just terrible.
I know I didnt' pay attention to such trivial details, I was too busy shouting at the idiots running in a straight line from the giant spaceship.
it would make better sense if they had a multitude of techs from different eras...so ships would be very old and their tech old while another ship would be 50 years more advanced and the company would use all of it cuz it still works...so we can say alien had one of those really really old ships so to do the aesthetic just because doesnt make sense
No. The major fan complaint, at least for me was the complete and utter stupidity displayed by so called "scientists" in Prometheus and Covenant.
I don't have a problem with Tech. Nostromo was a glorified tugboat in space. I don't expect it to have state of the art tech that was on the custom made ship that was owned and inhabited by Weyland himself.
What I have a problem with is that a glorified "truck driver" in space (which Ripley was) knows more about quarantine procedures than the experts. At least Ash's actions are explained with Special Order 937. We know now why Ash broke quarantine.
We quarantined men on the moon for 30 days against space viruses that might have existed on a rock with no atmosphere (The moon). But somehow the mere presence of a breathable atmosphere is reason enough to expose your fragile carbon based body to any number of viruses and spores on not one but two previously undiscovered planets.
Both of which had deadly consequences for the crews of Prometheus and Covenant.
@@williamthomas6106 That's right, it was so stupid that I almost wanted to leave the cinema.
@@Showdonttell-hq1dk What was even more insulting is that all three movies were helmed by the same director. Ridley Scott is known for his almost anal retentive attention to detail, but he couldn't see the blaring plot hole surrounding scientists taking off their helmets in a structure where DOCUMENTED unnatural death had occurred, or the idiocy of colonists simply landing on an undiscovered planet with ZERO biological protection and taking a smoke break?
I remember being dead excited for Prometheus when it was announced before seeing a first teaser trailer as I originally thought it was going to be not only a Brand New IP but Ridley Scott returning to sci-fi to complete his very own sci-fi trilogy of standalones akin to Paul Verhoeven’s sci-fi trilogy and I hated that it ended up being tied to Alien. I think Prometheus should’ve been it’s own thing especially as I hate the idea of the Xenomorph having an origin as I prefer it to remain a mystery which makes it even more scarier
Which one, don't run in a straight line?
Or getting lost in tunnels that you've previously just mapped.

@@piratehqqker Omfg those movies were hilariously terrible....lol
I never expected a robot go rogue & create aliens bc of a obsession. It Kinda sounds like a terminator movie script with aliens added. A rogue robot who wants to take over the universe, using an army they created. Sounds like skynet to me
I actually regret that we couldn't have a movie about a rogue android experimenting on colonists and luring ships to him. It just shouldn't have been an Alien film.
I think the themes in raised by wolves is what scotts vision for sci-fi horror is and it’s all about synthetics
I agree with you're analysis. I think another thing maybe to consider. Is some of this stations could be many years old. They travel many years each way and would be held together for as long as the engineers can keep em running.
Yup!
Yeah something inspired by Alien Dead Orbit would be nice.
Prometheus had a strong potential story-wise, but was severely hampered by plot-holes and script quality/structure.
Covenant was a nuke that went off by accident, an unmitigated disaster.
yeah after all those years after the Prometheus we finally were promised a continuation. Man, man oh man did we get it oh did we
No we didn't get a continuation. That was part of the disaster, Prometheus's story could've gone somewhere and the supposed sequel dumped it instead.
Yap bitched so much about Prometheus did uhh really think they were gonna finish that sorry? Y'all whined and whined and wanted more aliens. Alien covenant was really the only way to go. Now when to bitch and whine about Romulus you'll realise the prequels weren't that bad but you nuked those because all you want is space marines go bang bang get facehugged and die over and over. Studios really shouldn't listen to fanboys because they're never happy
Ridleys original script of Promethus was actually pretty fascinating. What we got was what the studio made him cut it down into.
Yes he gets way too much hate , it’s mostly the studios that want to cut things , Alien Covenant was way too short ….
and crap....
There is no original Ridley script, unfortunately. There's a proven fan script doing the rounds, which Kroft and others have mistaken for an authentic early draft.
Definitely found myself saying several times "oh my god, GET ON WITH IT!!". Word Salad. Talk about dragging the video out using a lot of words without saying much at all.
Fingers crossed. I would love a good aliens movie. Been so long
Part of what made the Xenomorph great, is that we didn't know the species' backstory, nor did we care. Some questions ought not be answered, especially fictional characters.
The unknown is the strongest driver of fear.
I'm ok with having an answer to what made the Xenomorph. What I have a problem with is making mess of the Prometheus story before it goes anywhere while also managing to mess up the Aliens timeline.
Keep em coming Mr H 👌
I certainly like the idea of retconning an explanation for the tech differences between Prometheus and Alien I think that is the only workable explanation they could create, that would make sense of the differences in advancement we see from the prequels to the original Alien movie, which was (understandably) much more 70s looking.
I find myself imagining a school of fish, watching a hook dip below the water's surface... while a handful of painfully optimistic trout go:
"Y'know... I think I have a good shot of getting the worm this time. I know... I know... the last 4 guys who tried it wound up on a hook. But this one looks pretty harmless from this angle! I'm gonna go for it!"
That explanation is brilliant! It is simple, fixes a lot, and adds to the narrative!
Where as Scott classed the Xenomorph as a product of genetic experiments.
James Cameron, treated them more as an evasive species...Making the Queen just as iconic as the original.
I want Pauly Shore or Rob Schneider, one of those bloody awful comic relief actors to play an Engineer with a moustache and trilby hat that befriends the main cast and mysteriously hands them the Flintlock Pistol from Prey and Predator 2 bringing the unification of the 2 series together once again.
No keep predator franchise separate from the Alien franchise
@solomonallen3524 But you're OK with the moustached Engineer?
@@blacksunshine7485 predator and Alien started as separate films from the beginning let's keep them separate end of story.
@@solomonallen3524 You're right. More potential moustaches that way.
Head Canon: The “truckers” in Alien were towing a vast amount of a raw mineral back to Earth. It is known (in its unrefined state) to interfere with electronics, so the Nostromo class “trucking” ships were based on simple systems.
For Aliens, it’s private military trying to save every penny. Spare no expenses on the weapons, so either save on the ship’s tech or perhaps some of those high-tech weapons are prone to interfering in the same way. That’s why the drop ship and armoured assault vehicle look like they’re fresh out of 1983.
I never got how Prometheus and Covenant were ever going to end up in a straight line to Alien. I believe the space jockey they came across was described as ‘fossilized’ so would have been there far longer. Size before man could even make fire probably.
I always thought the difference in technology was the fact that the prequels depicted a singular fund dump in each craft where as the Nostromo was a bang-for-buck build that had just the technology required for its purpose and the crews were not given the polished tech of Prometheus of Covenant because it didn't have the focused funds.
i always tooks it as space is filled with electo distortions and so does long distance travel,
as such digital tech requires vast amounts of EM and surge protection as well as redundancy connections making it very expensive while analog tech is less susceptible but slower so will be bulky and heavy but requires less checks to guarantee its working and hasn't been damaged by said energy distortions,
although i thought that at a time when people where taking about some sort of high energy field near Sol's outer rim which might just be built up static from the orbiting dust cloud/disc that surrounds the solar system but some think that it could fry the tech of any spaceship that gets too close.
Thank you H
I kind of made my own similar head canon regarding the stark differences in technology between the movies. A mining vessel isn't going to have fancy motion controls and transparent displays. A mining vessel will have analogue controls. You want technologies that aren't fragile and have tendencies to break down.
I never had a problem with the whole technology differences because it was pretty self evident that Prometheus was a special ship built by an eccentric millionaire.
I'm really glad Alvarez is going to make that canon.
That's what he said in the vid 😁😁
Great lore video, thanks Nate!
I am all for ignoring Promethetus, Alien Covenant, Alien Resurrection, and...honestly even Alien 3. I don't hate Alien 3 but there are TWO good Alien movies: Alien and Aliens. I am sure they are going to produce another ersatz Ripley as the protagonist and survivor but I hope they can break that mold because its too predictable and tiresome now. There will never be another Ripley.
H.R.Giger was a Genius.I think He deserves more Props than Ridley Scott. Awesome Artist,His Images are so Deep and DARK,but Always with social-critics in IT.
You can see that kind of divergence, for example, at a large luxury hotel. The public spaces for the guests are shiny, well decorated, have marble fixtures, carpets, skylights, atria, etc, and the back spaces are cement and epoxy flooring, commercial ranges, stainless steel sinks, steam pipes and plumbing, service elevators, and the like. So no surprise the difference between the Nostromo and the Prometheus. And you really see it in Charlize Theron's cabin.
This was already covered in special features of Prometheus over a decade ago ... nostromo compared to an oil rig in space and prometheus compared to a billionaires cruise liner to explain away the technical differences ✌🏽
Using technology like a class-based thing makes a lot of sense. If a rich powerful company can accomplish a task like refining ore with an old rusty ship like the Nostromo, why would they waste time and money on a more advanced and expensive ship? So yeah, I really like this thinking.
I like to think the point about technology not being about time but where you are is down to the fact that these vessels and crews are however many lightyears away and while technology "back home" may have progressed, they're still stuck with what they left with as it will take so long for any newer technology to be sent to them
It makes sense for colonies and starships to use tech thats easier to repair.
Prometheus and covenant should be written out like Halloween did the sequels after one that way it would make sense again.
I agree that on the alien universe there are different technologies for different classes, and that makes a lot of sense on the different displays throughout the movies.
Just a note on the technology I don’t have such a stretch with it. I work in a steel mill and pour molten aluminum. We are still using equipment from the 50s computer that runs. My furnace is a workaround so the windows program works from the DOS.
Yet to be established, but it's also the AGE of the equipment being used. Not just whether it's the latest tech with all the bells and whistles, or a brand new but stripped down budget model.
Alien had a mix of sets that showed relatively clean spaces like the communal dining area, med bay, and the sleep pods, but also sets that depicted the Nostromo as being quite run down, which would indicate the ship was pretty old.
Nice analysis as usual
Ridley Scott explained the technological disparity between Prometheus and Alien in 2012. His explanation was essentially the same as what you are hearing now. He said that the Nostromo was just a basic transport ship, devoid of luxury or technical accouterments that we see in Prometheus. I don't think he made any "class" distinctions, instead focusing on the purpose of the different vessels, along with the Nostromo being deliberately the most cost efficient vehicle to deliver the product. Like comparing a cruise ship with a cargo ship. They have looked pretty much the same for decades, but look very different from each other.
So this will finally explain why the Romulans declared war on Earth.
You're right. Actually very accurate in my humble estimation. Great video.
Thanks for this old school video Mr H. Takes me back to your older days
When I watched these movies it seemed obvious to me that a mining vessel would be vastly different than the owner of the mining companies vessel. And that tech would be different depending on people jobs. Function and status. I can’t believe people never could never understand this.
This is exactly what I've been thinking for years about why the tech is different. Makes perfect sense to me. Always has. Pretty cool.
It will help narratively, but honestly Prometheus and Covenant were just so broken and disjointed from each other, never answered really any questions, and created a bunch more questions. They really should just start over.
Tha's why this movie is not a direct continuation of the others movies
Because Noomi Rapace was obviously cut from the sequel for whatever reason.
Make sense having different classes of technology depending on the type of mission. The Nostromo being a mining vessel would have no need for something fancy like the Prometheus did.
I just figured the space 'truckers' we see in Alien are driving the equal of a 90's 18 wheeler, while the Prometheus was driving a newTesla pickup. Both get you there, but different levels of tech.
Well you could also think technology-wise that the Nostromo was just a really old ship as well
I remember a video from alien theory channel describing of an incident after the prequels involving of an anti-technology terrorist group. Unleashing a virus that destroys the highend technology of that time, forcing humanity to revert into an analog state to make things work.
I’ve said this along time ago, Prometheus ship was the flagship of the founder of the company, that’s why it was so advanced, the Nostromo is just poor people lower working class ship, that’s why it has low tech gadgets, the Covenant is in between
Truckers in space as a trucker on Earth that was an awesome analogy
nothing will FIX Aliens NOT-A-THING it's ruined like, Terminator, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean--the next film will be an abomination of a FAILURE but I digress
Aliens is all done, the 'space jockey' should've remained a mystery, not all questions need to be answered, that was the stupidest thing I've ever seen, it ruined the entire mystery of that huge entity that was clearly a rotting SKELETON not a suit, so ridiculous and it took ridley scott to ruin things of all people...
so every one is comparing a tug boat to a super yatch... "Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?"
The court hearing in Aliens kind of throws that idea out the airlock. They should just ignore all the Tony Stark tech in the prior movies and just make a great Alien movie with the aesthetics of the original movies, a true story in that universe. The ships and tech were as much a character as our crew.
Thanks for the video!...they did confirm prior that David did not create the Xenomorph in multiple forms of media like the Alien Covenant Novel, The Alien Covenant Advent Short Film and in the Alien Role Playing Game...altho it would be nice to see it confirmed in one of the movies itself to clear up the confusion.
I'll believe it when i.....see it.
I’d just like to pretend the last two movies didn’t exist 😂
I personally would like to believe Alien Resurrection and AvP 1&2 didn't exist. I get why people don't like Alien 3 but I appreciated what they were trying to do. I think it's 30 years we can get over our gripes with Alien 3 - blame the studio nobody else.
After Prometheus it has become clear the overarching Alien canon is no more coherent than the Halloween canon. Picking and choosing is the only sane path.
I know my nations. Retcons to the Engineers! Retcons to the Queen! Everlasting glory to the unknowable space elephant and the perfect organism that killed it!
I use the same rule to James Corden and other undesirables, pretend they don’t exist 😂
For me anything post Aliens 1986 doesn't exist and was just a bad dream.
The thing is, the technologies and aesthetics seen on Gateway, the Sulaco, and Hadley's Hope in ALIENS weren't that wildly different than what was seen with the Nostromo and Narcissus in ALIEN, and that was with a 57 year gap between events. Not to mention, we got a good look at the military grade weapons, technology, and equipment of the time via the USCM in ALIENS.
Thanks for this! Excellently explained and puts my mind to rest about this.
I had a similar problem with star wars however it was nentioned in episode 4 that it was a much more civilised age around episode 1.
Of the issues I had with the prequels, technology wasn't one of them. I just automatically lumped it in with the space operas where you have the commoner with a junk heap of a ship vs the advanced military or corporate vessels.
Aliens was the best of the series in my opinion
Alien runs circles around it
Alien is a masterpiece. Aliens is a downgrade and ruined the nature of the xenonorph completely. @@MistyMountainPath
I loved aliens but the creatures themselves were dumb where the alien in the original outsmarted everyone with it's kills
I agree. I'm not a purest for horror. Aliens had a great blend of horror and action. Much more re-watchable. Alien 3 was pathetic--seems like the type of mess they'd make these days. :)
Gotta be the original, but Aliens is a close second
Bro, this is taking me back to the early days of the channel! Funny how it's all come full circle
I think doing it this way is a great idea. A sort of ranking system for the importance of technology. If it’s not needed don’t spend the money. Just give them what they need
we need a walters revenge movie after this for awakening
You’re one of my favorite channels. Idk why your content rarely comes up on my feed, but I’m ready for ALIENS-let’s do this
That’s a good in universe explanation. 👍🏻
what l dislike about the prequels is not everything needs to be explained, the mystery of the Xenomorphs origins is terrifying enough by leaving it to the viewers imagination 🤔
TBH, the biggest and non-sensical plot points of Prometheus and Covenant were the engineers creating mankind subplot, and the whole going to look for them, assuming they would even be there or still exist plot, it is beyond ludicrous. Out of the two would say covenant was better
Big chap still alive?! Might just re-watch the first 4 movies❤😂👽
I had a very similar theory about this.
It amazes me, that this many years later, no one has mentioned or picked up on the semi-easter egg/ blatant image of an alien in the room where David first finds the material. It's blatant, it's there, it's an alien, yet David engineered them?
Prometheus and covenant were awesome. Romulus may tank
The only time the aliens were posited as the product of natural evolution was in the very early Dark Horse comics, which were immediately retconned by Alien 3 as being in a different timeline entirely. They tried to shoehorn it in to still work in the timeline of the movies by changing the names of Newt and Hicks and making Ripley a robot, but... y-yeah it was pretty clumsy and bad. Since then the idea that aliens are effectively "normal" has been completely abandoned by all the stuff I've read.
In the movies, Dan O'Bannon's concept of the alien's genesis was that they were completely natural and a quote "cousin of Yog-Sothoth," but because the pyramid was axed and the eggs were moved to inside the ship, people have been assuming the aliens were bioweapons that got out somehow ever since. Ridley Scott assumed the ship was a "bomber" even back then. After that, the only time the origin of the aliens were seriously considered was again in the comics, and starting with Apocalypse: The Destroying Angels the idea is put forth that they're a kind of "cosmic speed limit" for spacefaring civilizations, kind of like how Godzilla is for nuclear powers, a sentiment that even the current Marvel comics are echoing. The Engineers never created them at all, they just discovered them, then they tried to experiment with them and create weapons from them, but it backfired and they all died... so basically exactly what humans are doing. It's narratively a fantastic concept so it's no wonder the idea has legs even today.
Another comic also brought up the possibility of the outer god connection in around 1997, so... y'know, their origins have always been kinda mysterious and left open to interpretation, but the only theories that multiple writers ever seem to have taken seriously are being either bioweapons or something truly alien and unknown that is more of a cosmic force of the universe than an ordinary natural lifeform. And given the current chicken and egg scenario with the alien and black goo, and the fact that we still don't know if the Engineers even created whichever came first anwyas, the option is still available to have them be a complete unknown.
I never complained about the estethics in Prometheus and Covenant. It's ike in real life. Some people drive a 30 years old VW Golf, other people drive the newest Mercedes
Originally, the warehouse of goo, was meant to be eggs. And the black goo was meant to have come from an Alien queen, perhaps modified blood.I kind of liked where they went with the whole goo thing, but they shit the bed with covenant. I wish they had explored it more, expanded more on the engineers, even bringing Predators into the mix. You could have a whole alien vs predator storyline around the thing now that would be an awesome series.
I am following the tech class system but I have always thought of it in terms of time too. To me, I imagined the Nostromo has been out in space for a very long time. Launched into space or assembled in space way before we met up with them in the movie Alien.
I’m a truck driver. And I have a digital dashboard. Keep talking H
