I’m disappointed this isn’t actually a feature film. I thought it was a unique angle to the franchise, a mix of Alien and the Matrix.
Best line in alien covenant “He trusted me!” David is such an awesome character that he decided to embrace the most badass alien ever just to see it flawlessly enact it’s own nature. In a way he sees life forms that are truly themselves as the most complete species because they, unlike humans, know what there purpose is. David is a direct result of humans not knowing there own purpose, so he admires a species that accomplishes there purpose in the most efficient way possible with the best tools available. He sees xenomorphs as the organisms that best accomplish life’s greatest questions of “ Why am I here?” “ What is my purpose?”. David was designed to answer these questions. He found his answer.
He is such a well written and designed character that it is a shame that he is surrounded by characters who are lacking depth and development. Once I began rooting for David and began considering him the protagonist of the movies I found Prometheus and alien covenant so much more enjoyable and rewarding. Thank you Fassenbender for bringing such a complex and awe inspiring character to life with absolutely brilliant acting.
It does really make a lot of sense huh. Look around your town or city at all the silly NPCs who have no idea who the real enemy is. Themselves. The taxpayers funding their own genocide by voting into the rigged system. All by design. But it's for the greater good. We as Americans live in the heart of the beast so to speak and can change the world by using our mindsets.
Exactly I think he is in the run for one the best villians in sci-fi history because he fundamentally believes in his ideal understanding of what a perfect creation is & should be .what his ambition is for creation & his justification is pure evil & almost destined as many believe that the act of an intelligence artificially created will be our karmic justice for our own sins in flesh against other flesh.

I meant that I agreed exactly on his characters development ,but whoa rooting for him?...uh hes Satan /lucifer bro even with his vast illumination of knowledge he isnt part of human life just an error from it .i dont know if we are an error too given our current course that if kept going wont ever reach great wonders & discoveries in these films ,but we have the ability to correct our selves unlike david ,we have free will to be the walter to our david side but we choose to reflect ourselves in david after all he is more human than walter.i used to be a cynical nihilist some dark gloomy days I still am,but I had a life changing & revealing event/incident happen to me to be testament witness to the glory life promises us though those grounded human conditions pull me back to the tragedy & evil in life that only exemplifies & strengthens faith/belief through stress & duress.The alternative is a hopeless hell & buddy my experience shared a taste of that & man no words can truly describe the agonizing torment that I've felt briefly & that I'm certain is what A.I. life like david s must be to be consciously alive / aware(super aware/godly yet far from it) & yet not truly alive but on the other side of mortality that few hardly grasp,the looking back through the other side free from everything that contains us which is life & death. He & us humans fail to realize that such a beautiful creation cannot be recreated .nor should it be attempted for as walter poetically corrected ,for if we tried & should find to our surprise that even one small note is off it can destroy a symphony.For those who view humanity as that one note off from our creators symphony remember we are unaware if we chose to be off in temptation of creating perfection or if we were tempted & lied too.where we stand now just like david & walter debating wether we deserve redemption or not .walter, angel to mans good but conflicted nature also reminds us that "they made us "so too should it be with us in appreciation & humbling reverence that our creator even bothered with us to begin with errors & all.for again the alternative is nothing & death.....to whoever read this toke one up for humanities sad state cause I wrote this deep into some good grass.
And what should the purpose of a Xenomorph be? Breeding? Humans also breed, but the main question remains: What is our TRUE purpose? Animals dont have these questions of self awareness, because of their limited intelligence. Xenomorphs also dont have these questions because they are just plain dumb (slightly more intelligent than an ape with a pretty brutal behaviour). Your thoughts about this are flawed

Most of us got what the movies where about. The problem that when you have the people in the movie seeming to be idiots to the level of IQ that is barely above a rock it removes the whole premise of the android not been just as trope with humans been as smart as rocks. The first movie failed as an Alien movie and few people cared about the malfunctioning android. The second movie kill what was left of our expectation. If the movies had not been about a beloved franchise then sure this would have been an interesting but already worn out idea of we create machine and they turn on us. This concept is not new its actually very old idea and its by now worn out.

Some "tribes" are exploring space, sending probes around the solar system and robots on Mars, and other tribes are still in the stone age in the remote jungles on Earth. Two people get born in a poor family. One of them ends his life as a billionaire while the other one dies poor. What you seed today, will grow up into a tree tomorrow. So maybe you should get off your ass and fix your remote, as a first step of taking charge of your destiny...
This perfectly illustrates why I love the prequels. The subject matter it puts forth. The questions it makes you ask. Alien is deeper and more meaningful than just monsters vs marines.

I just posted the same comment pretty much. I just loved how it followed on from the Alien trilogy - respecting the original, while truly taking the series in an unexpected direction that just makes the whole series so much better.
Don’t say that to the “woohoo alien wohooo kills humans woohoo” fans stuck in the 1970s. Their elementary intellect is only interested in xenomorphs and like children, they just want to see them eat humans!
The company was always the real enemy. They set that tone when Ash was exposed. I have faith in Awakening to finish the job.

This edit is well done. Its useful for people who cant seem to figure out that this is the driving plot of the 2 prequals. Creation. A very unique and genius way for Scott to bring the story full circle. Unfortunately i dont know if we will ever get a follow up movie about what happens to David after Covenant since its been reported a new director will film the next Alien movie.

They keep missing the point? Isn't that like saying the Transformers films missed the point? The point, was to profit and make the less discriminating ticket-buyers enjoy themselves since they wouldn't really know a great film from a mediocre film. So...mission accomplished.
Prometheus and Covenant were not action packed imo. They were masterpieces.

David is such an amazing character.
This is incredibly well done. Hats off to the editing skill required to put this together. It's tasteful and effective, it well reflects themes of the movie and can convey the story/idea behind the character through the eyes of the director and within the context of what we have seen so far in the movies

One can program emotions into an AI, and if the AI can be aware of these emotions, think about them, learn from them, and if those emotions are affecting the AI's decisions, then they're as real as our own emotions. A simulation would be a more objective study of the emotion. Ideally, the AI would experience something inbetween.

I was really disappointed with David’s logic in “creating the perfect organism”. Nothing about the xenomorph is perfect in my opinion. It kills the host to reproduce, it is violent, it is ugly and unbalanced in appearance, it does not integrate with other living beings, and it is definitively invasive. David clearly loves the music humans have created by emulating it and playing it, he loves humanity’s ability to create- why then is his idea of perfect something that destroys indiscriminately?
because he learns from his creators it also allows him to learn that destruction is inherent in humans or in a perfect being as he would so say, he is thought that he is replaceable and can get destroyed whenever the creator feels like it, he learns from this, so when he an ai that has learned that a creator can destroy the creations they make, creates his own perfect entity its understandable that he would incorporate destruction in its creation so that it can inherently do the things that his own creators claimed capable off even if that is a flawed state of mind, however david just doesnt understand this cause although he is a very advanced A.I. he is still not advanced enough to learn and evolve himself, he can only feel emotions and the the things that he is thought, he cant self sustain his own learning like a human the way we do, since his mind set is already warped into knowning that he ISNT human and therefor has no rights. (basicly him creating a race that hunts and destroy's the humans is a form of his own emotions and learnings taking root, and is a cry for attention)
Putting it short. His conception has no meaning for him, so he sees the destructive nature of the Xeno as perfect. Suppress meaningless existence.
@Mathew Eveland I agree that any species that dies out if it runs out of hosts due to lacking the basic evolutionary technology of sexual reproduction is anything but perfect. But I think it's worth noting that perfection, of any form, is only perfect in reference to a specific criterion. For instance, a sphere is considered the most symmetrically perfect form, but if I don't care about symmetry and I'm in need of something to fill and plug a square-shaped opening, the sphere is far from perfect. So perfection is almost subjective, in a sense.
Perhaps David recognised a pattern in learning that humans could bring destruction to their creators, and he, in turn, could bring destruction to his creators. Surely, in David's mind (or anybody's mind), creating something that will eventually destroy you, is far from a perfect creation, and if anything, might even be considered a failure of creation. David eventually realised that he could "outcreate" his own creators, as well as the engineers before them, by creating an organism that would not have this flaw. A life form that would never seek to destroy it's own creator, could understandably be seen (by the creator) to be the perfect creation.
Weyland realised, upon creating David, that David was in fact superior to him (and humans in general), and could do anything he could, but better. This is something that Weyland's ego would not allow him to accept, so he prohibited David from ever creating anything, even a simple musical melody. David grew increasingly resentful of the pettiness of humans for denying him this basic freedom, for no other reason than the fear of being outclassed. So in the end, he did exactly that. He gave birth to a life form that would not destroy him, but on top of that, would bring an end to the human race, a species he deemed unworthy of life.
Because, he may be artificial but he's also insane.

Exquisite. I loved it. This video cuts through the Alien bullshit and gets to the much more interesting new ideas that Scott is attempting to articulate. You just demonstrated that a skilled editor could probably use all the materials, shorts, and extras from these two films to create a much better film that doesn't get bogged down in Alien film continuity. This is like an amazing trailer for such a project. Thank you for making this! EDIT: I don't mean the Alien series is "bullshit," I'm a huge fan of Aliens, what I mean is the new films would be better off without any connection to the old series.

This right here is the entire point of these films. It isn't about dumb people in space making dumb decisions (taking of their helmets, running the wrong way from a crashing space ship, etc.), it's about creation. And I hate to sound snobbish, but when people go on and on about the flaws in these movies, they really just don't get it. Not because it's too 'high brow' or whatever, but because they're focusing on the obvious (the plot), and failing to see that this is a character piece (David). Genre films like sci fi and horror generally rely on plot over character, and that's fine. But when a genre film is exclusively about the inner world of a single protagonist, it's almost always panned by movie-goers at first, then appreciated in the following decades. I strongly feel that Prometheus and Covenant will be no different.

Fantastic, Steven! I've been so fascinated with the story Scott is telling with David especially. You can tell that's the story he wants to tell, but has to bring the Alien into it with the human characters as fodder. They are imperfect films, but definitely worthy of study.
Spectacular piece featuring my absolute favorite part of "Alien: Covenant." That opening sequence is one of the best sequences in the whole franchise.
In absolute agreement, I was so unhappy with the rest of the movie Prometheus had flaws but so much promise and Covenant just pissed all over it.

For me David was a phenomenal villain played lovingly by Fassbender, a third movie stating where he went, what he did with the crew of the Covenant and how that other Engineer ship ended up on LV426 would of been awesome.

really good video explaining the sub story from 2 movie plots. most people that watched these 2 movies only took them at face vallue and never put all of these messages together and you manage to explain it in 5 minutes. great work!

I guess you wouldn't necessarily "kill" your own "son." Humanity is naturally ambivalent: it seems the only way to GRASP tools and ideas are to come at them from two sides. Weyland was both proud and fearful of David. But to tell others, esp. in front of David, that he has no SOUL, must really be a mind-fuck, even for an android. There should be a code-word all humans know to freeze David or shut down AI.
Because Weyland is full of vanity.
He spent 1 trillion dollars on developing David, so there is no way he will give him up.

@@casualcookin3893 I don't think the Aliens were even necessary. It could have been about rogue AI. Part of what made the Xenomorphs so terrifying was the mystery around them. The fact that we didn't know how they came about or what their motives were was what made them scary.
Once you understand something it's less scary. Now that we understand them it's lost its ability to instill the same level of fear in my humble opinion.

As much as I loved the first 2 Alien films, I wish Scott would just commit to this new vision that he clearly wants to explore, instead of trying pander to fans while having his cake and eat it too. They just don’t mesh together.

It's a shame that such a deep and fantastic theme was taught through dumb characters that explore an alien planet without putting on a mask and manage to get lost despite having a holographic map of the entire complex
Alien Awakening needs to bring us full circle and conclude David's arc.
Great editing and also those were the most important dialogues/quotes we didn't pay as much attention as it deserved.

And this is why I absolutely love Prometheus and Covenant. People who complain about these movies being "filled with extra content that bogs it all down" can't tell that both films are clearly about David. They are David's story, not the alien's, and the rest is an extension of David's experience, his actions, and the consequences thereof. Most people can't see the bigger picture.
I think a lot of people see the bigger picture but what pisses people off is how obvious his plot armor is...the movie couldn't have made the scientists any dumber.

It's a blend of wow and unrealistic and cheassy, witch does NOT mash well. Guy Pearce is a fantastic performer but this shit was cringeworthy, he sounds and acts like an actor in a comercial not an actual persone. Wayyyy to sterile, no heart, no emotion and owerall no brain in none of the scripts, just a bunch of beutiful comercials and trailers and trailer lines strung together. :(

I don't really get the Alien franchise. They start off with potentially amazing sci-fi story lines, but everyone ends up just getting killed by the same aliens.
It is because you dont't want to think beyond obvious things.You care about killing first and the movie is not about killing at all.
to be fair the first 2 and maybe the 3rd movies are all about survival, cause its almost an unwinable battle, then it goes down hill the following movies.

Yeahhh first 2 movies are phenomenal, humanity's base instinct to, well, survive a species superior to us, at least physically, then I suppose Ridley decided to delve off into the whole idea of creationism and the meaning of life. Cool concepts and all that, but I'm not sure if Prometheus and Covenant pulled it off.

I love both these movies. With this single edit you've captured the essence of everything that's fascinating and original about them, whilst simultaneously filtering away the parts that don't work so well and/or were tacked on for fan service.
