I was lucky enough to cover this wishbone ash song in my 20s with a good band as a bass player. It was intense and emotional every time we played it (I'm 71 now). The problem was everyone just watched us and wouldn't dance.
i saw wishbone ash play this live last night here in England my seat was right side of he stage , so close to them while they were playing this. i got Andy Powell autograph in a meet and greet last night .
I first heard the live version of Phoenix in-gulp-1974. Was Laurie Wisefield playing on it? Not that it really matters. He’s scary-good on this one. Thanks for making it available!
If you heard the studio version of Phoenix on their debut lp (1970) or the live version on “Live Dates” (1973) it would have been Ted Turner. Laurie Wisefield did join the band in 1974.
I saw Wishbone Ash live with Lauri Wisefield in Germany in 1978. The guitarist ruined the beautiful sound of the guitars with his squealing. We then left the concert.
Mr Powell gettin the words wrong,. Unforgivable.. Andy, go and see Martin's band (The real spirit of Wishbone Ash) to see how its it's done, you plant pot....

Laurie Wisefield - a P90 and a Marshall. Amazing.
The most amazing live version of their best track.
The band that gave me tinnitus in 1983! 😅
There aren’t many twin guitar bands like Wishbone Ash anymore. And that’s a shame.
No, but thank got we got Thin Lizzy and UFO as well...
Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were definitely influenced by Ash
Sounds fantastic! ❤ 😂

Don’t get me wrong I love the original solo that Ted did for this song but Laurie’s playing here always blows me away
For me one of the top ten best live songs. Per live dates
Laurie on fire
Great band,seen them live in Derby back in the day;
Heard it said that this tune was the inspiration for Free Bird.
Best band ever, bar none. Never heard of most of the huhs the woke committee called they put into the hall of "fame"
