Hi Chef Buck, I tried to make this Chocolate Pie, yesterday, I was so looking forward to tasting it. Problem is, the chocolate filling had not set solid as it should. I am sure I had followed the video properly, but can't think what I did wrong? It does taste really good though. Can you help please?
Now isn't she the cutest thing ever. I lost my mom in 1997 and I sure wished I had paid more attention to her cooking. Learn all you can from her while she's still you. You won't regret it years down the road.
Watching this bring tears to my eyes. My mom passed in 2020 from cancer. I miss her everyday but I miss our phone calls with me asking her how to make a certain meal. Enjoy the time with family as much as you can.
Right? I watched my grandma and great grandma make pie, and they were amazing. Both of them worked in my great grandfather's bakery, and they never measured. To make pie crust, both of them "measured" the flour by the fistful and the cornstarch by the spoonful and salt by the sprinkle. Perfect every time. The secret to great pie, my great grandma always said, was to use lard in the crust. Which is what I do. But I measure everything. LOL.
What a sweet woman. She reminds me of a neighbor I use to watch basketball games with on the weekend. That pie looks DELICIOUS! Love her personality as well.
I was thinking that same thing. My Mom passed away in '98 and boy could she cook and bake and sew. Her love of cooking rubbed off on me but not baking. Too many exact measurements for me and I don't have the patience but I sure do miss her desserts and cookies.
Absolutely loved this!! Love the Mama-son dynamic. Nice recipe with simple ingredients and perfect presentation! Love Mama's simple little kitchen. Love she uses a good old fashioned spoon to stir and remove lumps and the oven to brown the meringue (no highfalutin fancy tv cook whisk or torch for Mama lol)! More videos with Mama please! :)
she's got every kitchen gadget under the sun...most of them collecting dust in a cabinet...every Christmas she gets a half dozen new kitchen gadgets she doesn't want :^)
Did you know that the whisk was around before the 1840's not a highfalutin tool by any means. I make a lot of cream style pies the whisk is a great kitchen tool. Rock on mama
ckrtom2 no rubber scraper either. Our Home Ec teacher in 1968 also referred to it as a “Child Cheater”..told us every kitchen needed one and a wooden spoon.
For the past twenty years, it often crossed my mind that it was silly that the only thing people baked were lemon meringue pies. I KNEW chocolate meringue pies should exist - also coffee, banana, pina colada, apple, hazelnut and black cherry.
That was the first slice....I'm surprised I got as nice a looking piece out of the pan on the first go...usually I make a mess getting out the first slice
my mama's cooking is some of my best memories...especially from when I was a kid...she used to make fried chicken and meatloaf quite often, but she doesn't make those dishes anymore, even though I'm always asking her to
I really miss my Mom and her awesome baking. My Mom made pies a little differently than most directions say today, she didn’t temper her eggs, she mixed the sugar and flour together then added in the egg yolks and added the milk and chocolate, and everything heated up together. The only pie I’ve ever flubbed up was when I tried tempering the eggs. After that, I have stuck with my Mom’s tried and true. This Momma’s meringue looked awesome, I’ve used a similar recipe using 4 egg whites, I’d say my meringue was 8-9 inches high in the center! It looked beautiful going into the oven, but it didn’t retain the height, and I felt it was grainy. One last thing, when I lived where there was a Marie Calendar’s restaurant, I always ordered the German Chocolate pie, I’d tried numerous times to duplicate it with no success....until one day I decided to use my Mom’s chocolate pie recipe and at the end add in 1 cup of coconut, and 3/4 cup of chopped pecans, and walla,I had a pie that tasted as good as Marie’s. 🤗
This lady knows what shes doing! And she is the cutest thing ever! I lost my grandmas recipe for this and this is the closest thing to it if not exact! Im so excited to make it again! It never lasts more than a day, its so so good! I have so much respect for older people. In order to find good homemade meals you really have to dig around for videos like this, nothing tops them so thank you so much for posting!
Chef buck I love watching you and your family your down to earth and your mother beautiful spirit thank you for share my God bless you all ... from London UK ...
Mama Redbuck is such a STAR!! Thanks for another great visit with her, and a super delicioso recipe as well. I try to only eat foods that start with "CH" so this is a keeper!
My mom always made the best chocolate pies. I could never quite copy but I keep trying. I miss her. What memories you are making together. Thank you for sharing.
That is one totally amazing awesome looking and must be delicious ....I am going to be making one here. I use to always make home made Lemon meringue but have never made a chocolate meringue
my mama always tops her chocolate pie with meringue, but often I'll just put whipped topping on a chocolate pie I make...the meringue version definitely looks classier
I must say I learned a new way to make meringue, and this was one of the most entertaining videos that I've seen! I feel the love! I will make this for my kids today! Thank you! Definitely a keeper, and will be a repeat performer!
Being at mom's house is certainly killing my wardrobe...I'm gonna have to retire some of my duds for larger sizes if I don't get these sweets under control
You’re Mom is precious! It’s great that ya’ll can share moments like this together! And for the future generations! My Aunt and Grandmother loved to bake and cook, unfortunately I lost them both at an early age. I’m looking forward to baking with my granddaughter as she gets older. At the age of one she’s pretty much into licking the spoon. 😂
She is so sweet and patient! My Momma and my Memaw would have slapped anyone that hovered over their shoulder barking orders and asking so many questions LOL great video! 😁🌹
She is! Depending on the grandmother, if I hovered like that, I would have either been shooed out of the kitchen(my paternal grandmother hated people bothering her while she was cooking) or told to stop "being fresh" and go sit down for five minutes(my maternal grandmother). Women of that generation didn't stand for being pestered or fussed over. That being said, I loved them both.
I use to make lemon meringue pie like my mother showed me. We all liked it tart. I liked high meringue too. Those are great memories. That's a beautiful pie.
She is really great - I remember my Mom told we a lot of things like your Mom - since my stroke I can’t do a lot of these things, but this is helping me
Mmm the chocolate pie looks delicious! Currently Michigan is experiencing a stay at home due to the COV 19. The numbers are too high. Gotta stay home, wear your masks, wear your rubber gloves, and heavy hand washing. The children got dismissed early from school. They can not go back until late fall. We have faced numerous shut downs. New York is #1 on the high number list, and Michigan is #2 on the high list. I drove to the Grocery Store early this morning to be there at 7 am. There was only 4 people outside waiting. I purchased the items that I needed. The pie was easy to assemble. It came out superb. I made two chocolate pies, the second pie I gave it to my neighbor I wrapped it up in a brown box, placed it in a brown paper bag with handles on it. Placed a note inside, and I wished her a happy birthday. Her family can not see her because of the Corona virus. Later that evening I delivered a pot roast dinner for her. I sat in front of her front window with my cellphone in my hand. We communicated back and forth as we sat and talked for two hours facing each other, she cried because her family could not leave the state to come up and see her. But I took pictures of her enjoying her birthday meal, and chocolate pie.👩🦳
Awwww!! This was simply beautiful! She seems like a sweet lady!! Good job guys.. the pie looks perfect and delicious! I would buy pies from her if I could!:)
I’ve always just used packet chocolate custard to save time, but I need to try your lovely mommas method from scratch. Looks so good. It’s been a pleasure to watch this. Thank you for sharing with us. 🥰
Hi merman! Good to see you again. I never made chocolate pies when my children were coming up. A co-worker wanted one and I made him one out of instant pudding. It was good, but probably not near as good as yours. You put a lot of love 💕 in that pie! God bless you, Jean from Arizona 🌴🌵☀️😊🦂🦎🏜
my mama makes a lot more pies now than when I was a kid...we got them occasionally when we were little, but she was working a lot more way back then...I'm sure I appreciate her cooking a lot more now than when I was a kid
I've been back home for a week, so I've got a few more Mama Redbuck dishes in the pipeline...hope everyone is having a great weekend!
You better stop correcting Meema .... she may stir your butt for ya ....lol
she's gonna do that no matter what I say!
So, it’s a boy pie!?! 😉

Chef Buck thanks for sharing sir
I love that Mama doesn't use anything fancy. No expensive stove, no fancy pots and pans. Just good cooking. Yay, Mama.
That’s where the love and flavour is.
Now isn't she the cutest thing ever. I lost my mom in 1997 and I sure wished I had paid more attention to her cooking. Learn all you can from her while she's still you. You won't regret it years down the road.
Sorry for your loss. I’m sure she’s looking after you from Heaven. May her Soul Rest In Peace. 🙏🏾🕊

Beautiful, sweet lady and an adoring son.
So true. I enjoy watching their Videos. I tried their Lemon meringue pie and The Banana pudding recipe from Scratch. OMG it was so yummy.🙂
Your Mom is a sweetheart. I love to watch her bake. You are so blessed to still have her with you
My goodness she is a good cook! This chocolate pie and the lemon meringue are the real deal! 👍💗
She reminds me of my grandma. I am 62yrs old and lost my grandma when I was 20. She always cooked homemade food. It was so delicious.
Shes just so cute and little and the look she gave him when she tried to take a break on her phone! Lol
Yes that was The Momma Look 🤣🤣🤣😂🤣🤣
Yes she's a sweetheart!❤
Yes, I believe Southern ladies call that look "the freeze." She deserved a break, she did 99.8% of the work on this impressive pie.
She’s such a blessing. I made this for thanksgiving. My family loved it. Thanks so much
I just love her!!! She reminds me so much of my mom and grandma. I’ve tried this pie, it is sooo perfectly delicious 😋
I love how sweet you are with your mom! I love cooking (and baking) with my sons, too!
sweets always bring out my sweet side

You are so lucky to have your Mom, Chef Buck. My lovely Mom passed away a couple of years ago .

It's grandmother - grandson? He calls her Mee Maw.
Vivian S Read description. She’s his mother.
She is absolutely precious. I’m excited to try the meringue recipe.
Your mom is most precious! Take good care of her! God bless you both.
I truly love her recipe, her sugar mindfulness (some videos are sugar/butter craziness), and above all, her multitasking ability!!! Great
There such joy when grandmother cooks for family.
She really knows her stuff. I love this type of homemade pie! Thanks for not letting these techniques be forgotten!
What sweet memories to share with your Mom. I miss my Momma so much! Enjoy every moment! My mom was also a fantastic cook!!!
God Bless Her ; she is a Master, that pie looks awesome!!!
thanks!
