    almost 3 years later, and this tutorial is still working, and I managed to import my first model of my street to BeamNG! thank you so much for this, can't wait to keep working with it. I see what you mean about it not working too well with cities, but I think over time I can work around it, and eventually shape it to look alot better, (and eventually driveable XD)

      Glad to have been able to make such a resilient, robust tutorial that stood the test of time haha. I bet though there is easier ways to do some of he stuff. Been a long time since this was made, and my had some
      Steps that are not needed or the long way of doing them.
      Making textures manually for 2 years was one thing I did that did not have to be done “the game will not make the texture for you” famous words that were completely false for the most part lol.
      Actually game will make a base color map from blender if it’s not procedural. And the Dae is exported into a new folder, say in the art folder make a folder for new object. It will copy the color map over and the game will generate a generic color map. All the other stuff, AO, roughness, normals, well all that can be added later through the material editor.
      Just remember if there is already any main.material.json in folder, you have to manually add it to it.
      Game does mot seem to add after the fact.

      Ooooo, that might be a hell of a job. I tried to meshroom some things from
      The city and think the problem is the LODs change too much altering the details as they get farther away. I know I walked away thinking it would be far easier to just take screenshots of the buildings and wrap them on simple geometry than trying to get them to meshroom scan. I tried to get a few buildings I atlanta here to work. Now it would definitely not be near of an issue of I had a drone and flew around getting my own photos. Just try and see. If it’s a lot of trouble, your not alone in thinking it. I find that rocks, mountains, things like that do really well. You can load google earth through the web site and there you can have it show only the areas that are HD. Cause not everywhere is. You just later need to crop out all the stuff that is the browser interface, menu, compass or other things that can not be hid. I usually take video and export as frames. It’s easier to tell it to render say 3400 by 1800 to crop out the areas that are in the 3840 x 2160 areas. You can edit every photo with a batch file in
      Photoshop to do that I am pretty sure. Wish Gimp
      Did that too. Would make life a lot easier. Let me know how it’s working out. I would like to do more stuff with it, just got too many things I am juggling around now.

    I might try this later when building a Polish highway.

      Google earth to BeamNG is good for distant scenery. Not really great for stuff so close that it’s next to the road. I have done it, but it looks better at a distance. Google and bing say photos just simply do not get to the ground close enough for any good details. No, you would need a drone to do that. Would love to have one though. I would be making all kinds of stuff.
      I am not familiar with anything from Poland. USA here.. not even sure how a polish highway would look. I know growing up there were a lot of polish jokes being told by people here. Silly stuff like did you hear about the 5 polish guys who drown in a pickup truck that drive into the lake…. They could not get the tailgate open…
      Hope that is not offensive. It’s a clean joke. Never heard any jokes about Americans. Would love to hear one though. Clean or not, would be funny to hear

      I think there are people far better at getting Google assets to Blender than I have been able to do. I tried a few other methods but kept leaving with the same opinion. Good for far away stuff, terrible for up close. But I have made some pretty cool things meshing the google earth models with the terrain block in the world editor. Using a combination of terrain block with the 3d models, then adding forest items and ground covers. I have not messed with it since I learned to use the PBR terrain paints. May can blend them better now.

    thanks for the guide.. now I understand how to export my map into the game.. the texturing little bit finicky but I can deal with that since I'm not exporting all models at once..

    • @TerryMartinART
      @TerryMartinART  4 місяці тому

      Likely texturing was more difficult in this video because for two years I made textures the hard way. Manually entering them into the main.materials.json instead of letting BeamNG just make the color map textures. I would have to see this video again to know how dump I was at the time and what I might have said that was hard way, not slow way.

    Hey dude awesome videos as usual I'm catching up slowly I have internet now been moving house, I seen that the rally course is too big. If you still want to do the map I can show you the main bit of walters arena that is used in most rallies there, (in and around the pond with the 3 islands on it) I can post a video showing you that and you can just do the roads around that as they all look up into one big rally stage anyway

      I did think later it could be done with a ton of decals to make up for the lack of terrain detail that could be done with the terrain tools, and thought about looking into the tool L3dt free terrain program car killer uses. See how it generates maps. But its 15 km ! Sure everyone would love one like that. It would be easier with a smaller area for sure. Moving is no easy job. Moved many times. Wish you the best of luck there. Sure I think links are still enabled. Let me know if they are not letting you post them. I do already got that map off one drive I can remove it off there. New Slice. I would keep the large model for now. Can always just take a chunk off and use part of it :)) Man ! I figured out basic modding ! Not but all trial and error of course, but studying other mods and some trial and error. No where good enough to make a whole car yet though.

      I plan to make more stuff. There is not enough hours in a day to get everything done I would like. Meshroom I use almost daily...
      Sinse this video was made I have learned how to bake high poly textures onto low poly models. Back when this video was made I am pretty sure the only way I knew to reduce poly count was adding a decimate in Blender to the model. That made the texture look bad. I will go over this in detail when I make another video of Google Earth to BeamNG.

    It won't texture it and you just talk for hours idk where you explained it or if you even did

    • @TerryMartinART

      Depending on your needs, Blender GIS may be better suited. I use Meshroom for more detailed smaller areas. Rarely use it. You can only get what Google earth provides and it’s not great for up close details. This is a year old video, I likely rambled for a couple hours :P try to keep things under 1 hour these days.
      I have since not done too much in this topic. Meshroom from Google Earth. But Meshroom makes the texture. When you import the OBJ from meshroom into Blender the texture will be on it, if you copied the right folder from Meshroom to your clipboard. Wouod be difficult to explain it here.
      Will try to get a updated video on this with more current knowledge and better work flow. It’s overdue.
      Thanks!

    Hei. Is it possible to just place google map into beamng editor so I can trace the roads. Just trying to do a map of my home roads but just watching those roads on google map and trace them by hand isn’t to accurate. So wondering if you can place some how that map in editor and trace the roads ?

    • @TerryMartinART
      @TerryMartinART  2 роки тому

      Actually Blender GIS can save the roads as meshes to trace perfect roads for recreating real locations. At the time I did not really understand the importance of that option. I will see if I can make something on that. I am a few days to a week behind my normal time to get something done. Blender GIS, this is the video that helped me understand how to use it. He does not get into the other map items but other people have.

    • @TerryMartinART
      @TerryMartinART  4 місяці тому

      @@MrRadsVarietyChannel sorry I did not see this comment. Let me know if you still need this tutorial. I actually have one of the exported roads from a rally track that was made using the blender gis methood. You have to tell it in addition the elevation data to also include structures for buildings and roads if you want roads. Don’t get too excited about the building part though, they are not textured. The road part is more like a spine path you save to the elevation map so that it contours to the ground. Then in blender one would need to extend out the edge to make the roads. And in BeamNG use that mesh as the template for the raise to mesh terrain tool.

      Oh, yeah... The jbeam exporter... I have a newer version a friend fixed.. It was duplicating beams. That is fixed now. Here is link to it.
      jbeam exporter
      1drv.ms/u/s!AoPEwcmh86n1qWGLVHwXAsgAYEmr?e=TXB1eQ
      Let me know if any problems getting it set up with Blender. Its simply adding a new Plug in thing, sorry, mind fart. Where you go into Blender options and add new Plug thing, just point it to the zip file, then scroll down to the IO jbeam import export. It does not import, no idea why it says that.
      Shoot yeah, I thought the same thing with making mods. Because some people do prefer to manually type in all the X,Y,Z for the nodes. Not me LoL, I do not love math like that.
      This is a very old video. I know there are things in this video that I do differently now.
      This was the very latest video I made. It is not an easy thing to teach.
