Me too!!! Sadly I have lived in a culture all my life with people who gaslight to be superior to me. It was passed down from my parents, then my brother who attempted to influence my husband and now my children do it too, it was taught by example. There has been so much jealousy because I enjoy life and tell the truth about situations. These people are phonies and cannot discuss anything unless it praises them personally. I called out my daughter one time for her rude behavior and she started to cry and shout; "I guess I'm the big bad daughter." She never apologizes for her disrespect. I am now keeping my distance from her. She has gossiped to my grandchildren and now they treat me disrespectfully too. I am so done with family. They deliberately pay lots of attention to my husband and ignore me, such as sending pictures of him and our great grand child to the relatives but not pictures of me with him. The gaslighting is very subtle so that if I were mention it I would sound like the petty crazy one. It is as though I have a target on my back that says; "abuse her she is not one of us." I wouldn't think anything of it except that it happens whenever the relatives come into the picture and my husband doesn't see it because they treat him as special.
Ugh, I am so sorry. All we can do is our part - by being light and polite even when others aren't. That is recovery! Thanks for watching and I hope my videos help!
My partner has been ‘gaslighting’ me and I’ve been trying to fight it/him, ending up hurting myself in the end. Checking my reaction to what he’s saying/doing and learning to believe and trust in myself is soo powerful..thank you ❤
Me too! Thank for breaking down what gaslighting is and how to determine it's happening. Trusting my body is something new I'm trying to cultivate and I really appreciate being given instruction/permission of how to trust myself by trusting how my body feels. It's so difficult to try to prove the other person is being emotionally dishonest and just does circles in conversations.
Great and helpful description of gaslighting. In addition to the receiver relating to some aspect of what the gaslighter states, I have noticed that sometimes the more outrageous the claims of the gaslighter, the more self-doubt the receiver may have - which provides THE most intense gaslighting. An important topic, especially in today's climate where we see it every day in the news.
How do i know if im the one gaslighting? I dont view my self as a manipulator or narcissist and i feel like i take accountability for what i realize is my fault but i dont know if im justifying my actions, when i should be taking accountability.
Do you relate to doing any of the behaviors in this video? Gaslighting is purposely denying your behavior in order to manipulate another person’s reality. It might be helpful to do some counseling.
Can gaslighting also cause the victim to speak their own words against theirs unintentionally instead of their own words against the abuser by slip of tongue? Which makes the victim look more responsible both in the eyes and body language than they really are? Or even make them zone out with what the abuser is talking about because they are trying to confuse the victim with hard words that they cannot follow?
Yes, you can gaslight yourself by dismissing your own reality too. These kind of relationships are traumatic which can lead to ZONING out. Thanks for watching!
My husband accused me of gaslighting him because I thought once upon a time ago he told me we had extra chairs for our dining room table when we don’t. We got into an argument and when I said I am sorry but I could have sworn you told me that we did have extra chairs his response was, why are you always gaslighting me?! He couldn’t give me other examples of when I have gaslite him but he will point them out to me the next time I do it. I have done all of this research watching videos and reading articles and I am scared to tell him I don’t think I’ve been gaslighting him thinking he is going to say “see here is an example”. I don’t know what to do so I’m coming here I guess.
@@chunkers8 yeah it’s a good idea to ask him for examples or if it’s happening in the moment to explain how he feels. He might not understand the term. He might feel dismissed or not heard. This can be a sensitive issue so hang in there!
Not everyone does but narcissists definitely know what they're doing but they wouldn't admit to the term gaslighting - unless they think it applies to you ( which sadly they often do ).
Get gaslit alot especially from my father , family , peers 😢. They don't want to take a look at their own actions plus they love talking crap behind my back plus the gaslighter like making me feel like shit after being around them . Always hear those sayings like you're too sensitive or why are you always so sensitive ? or Why are always taking things so serious ? You're batshit crazy or I never said that you're just imagining things or hearing things wrong or you're delusional etc .
Yes boundaries are super important because while we cannot control what others do we can make a choice to remove ourselves when a boundary is crossed. Thanks for watching!

i watched the film gaslight it explaines all
Can you forgive gaslighting if theres remorse and it stops or is one occurrence enough to run?
If there is remorse and changed behavior those are good signs that may warrant forgiveness but that’s up to you to make that decision.
