I plan on taking English literature next year and everyone keeps talking about how difficult it can be since its not our first language but seriously this video comforted me so much and made me believe that I can do it. I deeply love English in general. so if you see this you can do it!! thank so much for your advice and ill be back for more this year 🩷🩷
Wonderful video man these ex students on yt are basically my pillar to lean on for the exams at this point 😂 Thankyou so much. I have a question, can we in our answer mention other resources? For example using some quote or mentioning that you read something somewhere (let's say you saw a post) that reminded you of your literature story?
hi! thank you! yes you can, as long as you clearly mention it's another resource. Best to avoid non literary resources. So if it's a critic you saw, or this reminds you of another poem or story, great. But if it's just like an instagram post, maybe not;)
im struggling to make my paragraphs sound high level if you get me, i can do the peel bit fine but the whole paragraph will seem basic in the sentence structure and vocab i use
this might come a bit late, but try reading more classics and also specifically memorize synonyms for words that appear often, like because, or this means. That would really impress your examiner
I am confused are you advocating for P.E.E.L format or P.E.E.A.L format? and what do you think about P.E.T.A.L technique aswell, which one should I focus on for effectiveness?
Thank you so much 😭 in my country english lit education isn't available I still chose it I don't really know a guideline or question pattern? Is there any book you'd recommend?
Hi! There's not really a set textbook, that explains how to write the ideal answer that I know of, only the set texts for english literature. Find out what exam board you are doing, and then prepare by looking at the syllabus, studying carefully the materials that will be assessed, and practicing writing answers.
For poetry, In answering the question, is it okay to give a stanza by stanza analysis divided through paragraphs for each stanza while referring to quotes in order to answer the question ? And if there aren’t any stanzas, is it ok to u a line by line analysis, example: Firstly the poet Indicates in stanza one..(stanza by stanza) Or Firstly in lines 1-5 the poet emphasises on..(line by line) (I hope my question is clear 😭)
Personally I wouldn’t use this approach, because the question is usually not on the meaning of the poem but on a specific thing, such as the passage of time. Not every paragraph or every line has something to answer the question so you would be wasting time a little if you analyze every single thing. I think you should focus specifically on answering the question, and only if time permits expand on the broader poem as a whole
Hey polina! I hope you are doing well. I came across your video and find it really helpful. I am appearing for Literature in MJ 24. If i email u my answer, will you give a feedback along with highlighting the weak areas? ❤❤

If you're interested in the pricing, do let me know, you can get in touch me via my email (on my YT page) or DM me through Instagram polinas_pages :) enjoy your day x
@@PolinasPages Oh alright thank you i didnt think youd respond, but i had one more question, how do you fully cover the content in the poem? And when your writing points is it okay if they sort of overlap? like if one point has quotes that are in another point, however with another interpretation to back up your new point? or that would be seen as going back and forth!
Hello! In october I will sit for literature IGCSE, and I have a big doubt. Because of a signicant amount of problems that happened in my school with literature teachers we are far behind on the poem and stories we should have read by now. Would you recommend to skip the ones that were asked last year, since I don´t think that there will be a question about the same poem or story as last year. Thank you very much. Greetings
Hi! I would not really recommend doing that, as there is still a slim chance they might come up. Don't skip them, maybe just put less effort into them? Also, you have some time before October, so I think you can definitely get through a lot of works. Do feel free to DM me if you need some extra support over Instagram, polinas_pages
Hi! You can follow the example essay introduction structure, or you can do your own. Your introduction should just do the following: 1- introduce the topic (the question,) 2- make clear what you feel about the writer, eg using adjectives like memorable or vivid, 3- outline what you're going to talk about, ie the key themes. 4-Most importantly link it back to the question. At the very end say, through using such themes and ..... the writer draws comparisons between poem a and poem b to showcase .... (topic question.) So for example, ".... poem a and poem b to showcase the passage of time."
There is no way to pass this exams, I am a student from Argentina, in october I start to set de igcse moks, seven subjects, I am really nervous, I am really bad at literature.
Hi, I wanted to know about the latest syllabus for igcse for 2023 I read for drama there are four drama list lynn Nottage play crumbs from the table of joy, othelo, twelfth night, death and the king's horseman, and RC sherriff journey's end, I wanted to know shall my daughter learn all of them or there is a choice or it totally depends on school plz reply same with the anthology we learn all of them. If there is choice which drama My daughter take.
Hi! Yes, usually there is a choice. Schools that are certified exam centres typically choose one work (completely depends on the school which one), so out of the four drama components, your daughter would have to reply to questions about just one, the one they studied in school. When the school gives the official exam, she would just answer the question on the work they studied rather than all of them. Same for the poetry anthology, the school will pick one list only, and she will have to study all 15 poems on that one list. In case the school decides to do it differently (but they really aren't supposed to) they will inform her of the change I'm sure
i think an improvement to the points would be not using language techniques in the P of the PEEL but going by theme ! such as saying “In a streetcar named desire, the main character, Blanche experiences delusions through the form of a memory play to portray her mental state”
yes, that's a good improvement! In fact that's what A Level is more about, but largely it is quite similar. I can definitely try to make a similar video for A Levels:)
Great video! Do you have any tips to assess and be critical of your own essays? My unseen poetry exam is in 23 hours so this would be greatly helpful to me now haha - thanks a lot!
Hi! Thanks. When you read your essay try to react like an examiner would, and even if the point seems clear, ask yourself, is the point clear, or do I just know what I mean? Take a different colour pen and highlight how many times you use technical vocabulary, how many times you talk about context and how many times you talk about meaning, and themes. See what's lacking and learn to add more of that next time. You could also take isolated explanations and ask someone if this makes sense, and if they can understand the question your essay was answering without knowing it. That's usually a good marker of how well you answered the question
Hi. It depends on the quality of your expansion of these points. Personally, I always go for just three, and each point is usually around two pages long for me, as I have several examples within the point. So for example if my point is imagery, I'll have at least three examples of imagery within the point. Typically teachers advise you to go for more points if they don't think your expansion is big enough. So for some it's quality over quantity, and for others it's the other way round. If you are concerned you cannot expand enough, I would go for 4-6 as others advise then. hope this helps:)
Hi! I always choose to make more detailed videos to help those who need that extra bit of information. If you are looking for a more concise summary, please read the syllabus as it has all of what I said outlined as well. Thanks:)
You can slow down the speed in settings:) people have different listening speeds and if I speak slower I get comments asking for me to speed up haha, so it's a bit difficult to cater to everyone
