Nah bro I’m watching this 5 months away from exam
In my school, we take “blurting” very seriously but we actually call it “retrieval practice”. when you write everything down that you know without your notes, essentially you are retrieving the information from your short term memory into your long term memory. it’s a very effective revision strategy and I’m glad you mentioned it. also, thank you so much for the amazing tips! loved the video:)
Retrieval practice - that sounds so fancy! Might start using that now 😉, glad it helped you and good luck with your GCSEs! x
@@SmileWithSola thank you so much! ☺️
we do that in our school as well :D
yes we do this too in our school :p
can i do this when I only have a few days for my lit exam? or does this work best long term ?
I'm an English teacher/GCSE Examiner and this is excellent advice - highly recommend students watching this vid. Well done Sola.
Hi do u have any tips
1. Understand the question+ what it requires of you.
2. Stay away from taught structures such as P.E.E. Let you analysis include lexical fields, symbolic meaning, literal meaning, words + connotations and ALWAYS a language device.
3. Make a unique, out of the box point.
I jumped from a 3 to a 9 in english langauge just by knowing about what the questions are
Stacey was my teacher a few years ago just before she started fully focusing on her online teaching. Shes amazing and brings so much more meaning and thought behind seemingly boring and plain extracts.

Your videos are so super helpful. I'm a mum who's daughter is in year 10 starting her GCSES. She's super nervous and she's dyslexic so I'm trying to learn tips myself so i can help her. Thank you for your amazing tips.
Thank you for properly explaining this to me because the way you explained it made me understand the process easier so I’m thankful for that.
this was so helpful !! my english national 5 exam is in two weeks and i was struggling with the memorisation of quotes and analysis but the blurt method is really good and i will definitely be using this to revise ! thank you
My biggest challenge with English is time. I usually get full marks on the questions I answer but I always run out of time with at least one whole question left unanswered. Tbh idk what to do anymore. My target is a 9 but I don’t see that happening with this obstacle.
As I said in the video, you need to give yourself time restraints. Once you finish this time, finish the sentence and move on. It's better to at least get some marks on a question rather than 0 - that reduces your chances of getting a grade 9 drastically.
@@SmileWithSola thanks
Any tips for creative writing? I suck at it
@@justsomeone5660 I really recommend watching Mr Bruff's exemplar essays and looking at how they seamlessly use language devices such as metaphors, similes, etc. Start to implement these into your own writing and give your essays to your teacher for feedback.
@@SmileWithSola I'll try that! Thanks!
OMG I WENT FROM A 6 TO AN 8 THANKS TO YOUU💘💘💘💘
OMGG congrats!! So glad my video helped you! 🥰
@@SmileWithSola could I watch a video on a certain theme or character (not make any notes) then wait 10 to 20 mins then blurt. Does this sound like a good strategy or is there a better way to do this.
@@harryhawe8694 Sounds good! It's just that it might take a bit longer to write the extra answers as you'd have to watch the video again. I'd make a mindmap initially which has everything on it so I can refer back to that.
@@SmileWithSola sounds good.I just to make every second count because I find what I have learnt just slips out my head ( metaphorically speaking) if I just passively make notes. Do you know any other active revision techniques which have been proven to work well for getting the best grades?

Great video , Im currently struggling with Romeo and Juliet due to the unfamiliarity of it . A lot of people tend to do Macbeth so there is barely any high grade analysis on youtube . On top of that , my exam board for English literature is Edexcel which does not help . A lot of people do AQA and so there is a difference between the style of questions and how to answer them , I cant even find any exemplar answers for edexcel and it gets really frustrating .
Thank you so much sola you are truly inspiring, its also my future dream to become a dentist 🦷 ive watched so many other you-tuber videos and yours is actually so useful and applicable to me and this has really motivated me to work harder in english and see the fun side of studying english lit and lang 😁, cant wait for more videos

Hey I know you probably didn't do the particular language that I do for GCSE being German, but if there was a way of making a video that broke down how to revise for a language, that would be great
Hi sola! I’ve been watching your videos and they’ve greatly improved my revision. I have GCSEs this year and they’ve been really helpful. But could you please make a guide on RE, It’s my lowest grade (5+) and I want to get a 7 on it. Please and thank you!
I wouldn’t say I was bad at Re but I never revised n got a 5 but do exam questions out of each topic it works trust me
Have flash cards with source of wisdom and authority try having a question on one side e.g. what quote relates to evil and suffering On the other side put god is “compassionate and gracious slow to anger”
hi you can use the advanced information as a start since it tells you the focus of the paper
hi you can use the advanced information as a start since it tells you the focus of the paper
Had to split this up into parts: part 1 :)
I’m taking RE and I've gotten an 8- or an 8 on every mock and assessment so far. There are certain ways to structure your paragraphs which will ensure you have given enough info to get all the marks.
First there is PEPE which is Point - Explain - Point - Explain and it is for the 4 mark question, basically you make a point and then back it up with an explanation, its best to include a religious teaching or an attitude in the explanation as it makes it flow better. And you repeat this once so your answer looks like, Point - Explain - Point - Explain, but make sure the second point is quite different from the first.
e.g "Give 2 contrasting Christian viewpoint on abortion"
P - [Some Christians would be against abortion because once of the ten commandments is "Do not kill"]
E - [As abortion is the termination of the foetus it can be seen as murder and would go against "Do not kill"]
P - [Some Christians would be accepting of abortion if the pregnancy endangers the health of the mother]
E - [Pregnancy can occasionally lead to the death of the woman, as Christians believe God loves all individuals, abortion may be considered to spare god from the suffering]
Thank you so much
I'm a natural at English language and learned quickly, but I'm SO bad at timing and not rambling in sentences - going off the topic of the actual question ...
Thank you smmmmm x
