I have just listened once again with growing amazement and admiration to your wonderful performance of ‘Un canadien errant’. I am rarely given to hyperbole, but in this almost singular instance I can not do otherwise. It is not just a performance, but a truly beautiful re-creation of the piece, bringing out every subtlety of colour, tempo change and phrasing as well as every delicate nuance suggested by the text itself. Tempo changes are seamless and convincing, and the beautifully transparent singing - with voices perfectly balanced - is so expressive. The choir sings ‘as one’. There is a masterful blend of piano and choral sound that only an accomplished choir, pianist and of course conductor, can bring out. I love the control of dynamics displayed from the first notes of the introductory ‘music-box’ through the ‘symphonic’ climax (‘never louder than beautiful’), falling quickly to the final piano and choir chord. What a treat for a composer to experience. It makes it all so worthwhile. Thank you! donald
