A truly wonderful performance of one of the saddest and sweetist songs ever written by one of America's most loved, and most talented writer/performers. He will go down in history with the likes of Stephen Foster and George Gershwin... thank you, Billy Joel, for your wonderful music.
Thank you for recording one of Billy Joel’s most memorable songs. Love that you sung the 4-part harmony he embedded in the song. Granted the soloist has a good voice although this part needs a lighter voice and one that expresses the pain and conflict of the lyrics. A similar situation occurred in the initial recording of this heartbreaking song by the Houston Chamber Choir. They recorded a follow-up version with a different soloist whose voice was perfect for the solo.
This is very beautiful - thank you and well done everyone. Am both a huge Billy Joel fan and a lover of choral music - so this was a delight and very moving. Rest in peace your music director Dr Steven Thomas - beautiful photograph. Best wishes from here in London.
Beautiful, as is the King's Singers with the people choir. It is a most beautiful composition. Billy Joel's lyrics and tune come together perfectly. XXX
Very good performance of this, no background noise like other recordings I've heard on UA-cam. I remember singing this in high school choir 25 years ago! Excellent arrangement.
In every heart there is a room A sanctuary safe and strong To heal the wounds from lovers past Until a new one comes along I spoke to you in cautious tones You answered me with no pretense And still I feel I said too much My silence is my self defense And every time I've held a rose It seems I only felt the thorns And so it goes, and so it goes And so will you, soon, I suppose But if my silence made you leave Then that would be my worst mistake So I will share this room with you And you can have this heart to break And this is why my eyes are closed It's just as well for all I've seen And so it goes, and so it goes And you're the only one who knows So I would choose to be with you That's if the choice were mine to make But you can make decisions too And you can have this heart to break And so it goes, and so it goes And you're the only one who knows

I'm a big Billy Joel fan but not a lover of this song. However....this is such a lovely version and, dare I say it, better than Billy's....IMHO....so haunting....
This is the arrangement I sang in my HS choir 30yrs ago. Wow, long time.
What a beautiful arrangement of the song. And yes, Billy Joel is an American Treasure.

I had the privilege of singing this in a reading session led by Bob Chilcott years ago. It gave me chills then, and it still does.
The tenor soloist has such a wonderful voice. Beautiful song/arrangement/performance.
This song is sung by Billy Joel is played at the end of "Lost Without You" episode of Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along
I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense
And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you, soon, I suppose
But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break
And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
Beautiful. I loved basses the most
