A "win" my dad pointed out while we first watched this movie was, during the dad's death scene, right before getting swept away, he realized his imminent demise. And, instead of struggling, panicking, and just all around looking distressed and scared, he instead chose to look at Arlo and smile. As though he wanted his son's last memory of him to be a comforting one. He physically showed his son how to be brave, even in the face of death. Just something that really struck a cord with my own dad. I nice little detail that, when you think about it, speaks volumes for his character and how much he loved his son.
Overtime, I've come to realize that, although mean, Cinemasins are just kidding for the most part, they even say that the final sin count doesn't matter really. But this channel really goes the extra mile and in all seriousness. Finding flaws in something good is easy. Finding respectable deeds in a flawed movie is hard.
There's a few video essays on why cinemasins is bad in general, and bad for a society, they often get things wrong and spread misinformation, and play a big role in the public's consensus of a movie because of how popular they are. I like cinemawins because he either praises a good movie, or comes to bat and point out positives in a bad one while doing his research and never really falling into the misinformation trap Cinemasins falls into, also at the end he always gives a summary and explains his points. Cinemasins just kind of blanket shits on everything and creates an air of cynicism where it's really not warranted, not to mention they churn them out way to quickly so the production and writing come off as lazy, when it's probably more that they're overstretched.
But have you watched CinemaSins guy's actual review after he watches a film? His complaints and rants are the same with the CinemaSins' 'Everything Wrong With' videos. :/
Sad to see this movie getting ragged on so often, or forgotten about entirely. I mean, it's definitely no Incredibles, Wall-E, or even Cars, but it's fun to watch nonetheless, and the animation is spectacular.
It was a cute movie and the animation was gorgeous, it just seemed like a ripoff of tons of other animated movies. The story was predictable and typical with nothing new to add and the raptors basically reflected the sharks from finding nemo and the hyenas from lion king. The animation was gorgeous, and I could have taken something like this from Disney, but I expect pixar to be more inventive and innovative.
I know the plot of this movie wasn't exactly the most creative or inventive that Pixar has ever done, but I truly enjoyed it. I really think the relationship between Arlo and Spot was quite touching and it made the film for me. And like with most Pixar movies, I had tears in my eyes by the end. So... definitely a win from me.
The thing for me (even though I’m three years late) is that a plot doesn’t need to be complex or creative, even. Part of creativity is taking a “boring” or “cliche” plot, and still having fun with it and making it memorable. It could be as standard as standard gets, you can still make it unique through characters, relationships, and the environment. Creativity doesn’t stop at the plot, it branches out to everything else as well.
A group with both the two of you. In about movies and TV shows or to make it through creativity and to have fun there can be some boring or bad parts, but it’s still good. Once again Pixar and Disney make a wonderful Childhood of mine. I love their animation, and I pray these companies never get forgotten .
Every Negative Nancy comment I see makes me feel like I'm the only one who truly loves this movie for not only its lifelike visuals, but also its simple but heartwarming story.
Same. The scene where they communicate their loss nonverbally made me tear up and want to cry - while everyone complained about how boring the film was -_-
Aside from the sheer hilarious points, I love this film's look because it brings my childhood imagination to life: realistic setting, completely cartoon-y characters interacting with/ within it.
It's not underrated, it's overhated. I'll be 100% honest and say I thought the concept was dumb and I didn't watch it in theaters. I bought it for DVD and... It was just "meh". I'd say it's in the lower 50% of pixar movies (which really isn't saying much since all pixar movies except cars 1 and 2 are fantastic)
I thought this movie was super sweet, beautiful and it even made me cry, but it has some problems. Like the fact that it feels sort of similar to The Lion King. Why did Arlo's dad die in the water but Arlo survived? How did Arlo not die like 500 times throughout the movie? Why do the dinosaurs he meets come in groups of 3? Two guys and one girl. And while I don't think the world felt small I definitely felt like it was empty. Arlo must've traveled really far and he only meets 10 other dinos...
With regards to it being small, I'd say the fact that he met only 10 other dinosaurs actually makes it even bigger. People are farther apart and less likely to run into each other. Their world also isn't as populated as our human world. When you think about the populated density of humans vs the population density of other animals, such as panthers, there are clearly a lot more humans. As for him always running into groups of 3, I see that as neither a good nor bad thing. With _The Lion King_, yeah, I saw your point. Depending on your preferences, that can be either a good or a bad thing. Not that I mind references to _The Lion King_, though. I think it was different enough. I'm surprised that a lot of people weren't comparing it to _WALL-E_, actually.
Milie I think the reason Arlo’s Dad died in the water was because the flash flood that happened was during a hurricane, while when Arlo was swept away, it seemed like a normal medium-strong storm
This movie is definitely one of my favorite Pixar movies. The animation is gorgeous and the story is so compelling. The way the movie just shoves his father's love and sacrifice in your face all the way through is heartbreaking and yet so real. He reminded me so much of my Grandpa. When I watched it with my sister, we had to pause the movie at the end when Arlo met his dad again because we were bawling. I can't remember the last time a movie felt so relatable.

I think the problem with this movie was it had such a predictable story arch, not to mention it borrowed so many things from other Disney and Pixar movies. Arlo's dad dying was so extremely Lion King it's ridiculous, and the hyenas are also Lion King, AND the entire ghost-dad-spirit-thing was similar as well. As for predictability, I mean... Each dinosaur they met were nice (except for the pterodactyls) and came in groups of three, Arlo met each one, quickly engaged in a short little game of fun, or a tad of drama, then left the scene only to run into the next one. The story was also incredibly like a boy and his dog story so much so that I don't know why they didn't actually make it a boy and his dog story - I'd probably be better. The stakes weren't high, since anyone over the age of 10 knew that they weren't going to kill off Spot, I mean.... It's a toddler, you can't kill a toddler in an animated kids movie. So overall, while the soundtrack was incredible, and the animation was inspiring (although the dinosaurs seemed out of place, I think the Pixar animators had trouble balancing out beautiful realistic animation with the cartoonish style they love), it was kinda a bad movie, in regards to the plot, at least.
I actually want Zootopia set in the same world as this. Dinotopia could be a foreign nation where they actually do eat mammals. Just sets up all sorts of ideas. The dinosaurs may even be more primitive but more powerful and thus explaining the isolation. As dinosaurs are lizards and can't survive the cold, keeping them away from Zootopia would make sense. Zootopia is also missing an explanation for why humans aren't around or dominate that The Little Dinosaur provides for it. They'd be good movies to mix.
I have absolutely NO idea why this didn't do so well. And the building of the environment is some dinosaur documentary quality CGI. And obviously, the reason the dinos themselves weren't made to the same realism standard is because realistic dinosaurs would either be scary or harder to relate to.
This movie is definitely one of my favorite Pixar films. It was gorgeous and the story was definitely underrated and a bit deeper than people give it credit for.
I will never EVER understand why this movie flopped and why people hate on it so much. And dont give me that "It's a cliche story", "It's too dark", "Arlo and Spot separate at the end", etc. excuses. Those arent excuses, those are preference complaints. This movie is visually stunning, yes, but it also has a wonderful lesson. Overcoming your fears for the people you love is such a good concept, and Pixar handled it beautifully in my opinion! Arlo truly grows as a character, and it feels worth it because he goes through so much pain and has to learn how to let go of things for the sake of the ones he loves. This movie "flopped" , but that doesnt mean it's bad. I'll always love this movie
I couldn’t have said it better myself, I also agree strongly with you! This movie deserves way more respect! I hope they give it a sequel someday! Even if it’s a Disney+ series, that’d be enough for me.
+CinemaWins for the first "Your" in these sentences (in your comment, not in the video, and also not the correction that was made), it should be you're, and the second one should be your. This was probably on purpose, but if not, just thought I'd point it out.
Honestly there's something about the quieter moments in the film like the farming scenes, the photorrealistic environments shots or Arlo building the tent that make me so satisfied it makes me wanna eat.
This movie is not as bad as Pixar thinks it is. They dubbed this movie "the forgotten Pixar movie" but its not as bad as the Cars sequels or Monster's University. I think the animation in this movie is absolutely stunning, and I liked the theme.....how they each had to earn the honor of having their footprint on the wall, but it was only AFTER Arlo's dad dies and he goes on this journey alone with Spot that he really comes of age and overcomes his debilitating fear and realizes he is worthy of making his mark. As heartbreaking as his father's death is, I think it was necessary for Arlo to stand on his own. He was initially terrified of Spot, but as they went on their journey together, he realizes that he and Spot are very much the same. They have each lost someone dear to them and they are misunderstood. In the end, Arlo has to make a choice and he chooses to let Spot go with his family and return home to his mother and siblings. Notice how it comes full circle from his father's shadow at the beginning, to Arlo's shadow being big in the end.
I honestly enjoyed watching this movie. The visuals are stunning and realistic giving us a wider view of the natural world from different angles and times of the day and different weather. It is sad when people show so much hate towards it. I get it that it's not the best movie, but it really isn't a bad one. It had many humorous moments, interesting characters, character growth, and some stunning moments and animation. I do agree with the point that there should've been more characters as it would've been amazing seeing other dinosaurs too but I think the reason why it's so limited and small with the characters is because that it isn't like a modern society. Everyone is on their own and makes their home where they want it or travel wherever they want. The wilderness is dangerous and it's not like there's towns of these dinosaurs. There's just settlements they made or those who travel around like the T-Rexes. If the movie took place a bit later on in the future, maybe there might've been the start of a community and there possibly could've been one out there in the current time period of the movie but it could be out in the country where not as many would live as that's how farmers were. They lived a bit further away from the community. But who knows. The movie I think was still good and deserves some recognition.
Hey man, great job on the video, I'm glad you're making a positive channel and not a negative one, I'm sure your channel will do AMAZING in the future, so, KEEP IT UP! :D
+CretaceousTheHunted I just think it's so pleasingly ironic that this comment string, in particular yours, has your unser name as "CretaceousTheHunted" as I, myself, have fallen in love with CinemaWins under a perfect example of an average movie turned great called The Good Dinosaur. :)
The movie was good, but not quite Pixar good if that makes sense. Like among the rest of the Pixar movies out there this one just felt more like Pixar flexing its scenary making skills while slapping a few cartoonish dinosaurs on the screen.
Every time somebody mentions this movie I always think of ASDF movie where the Dino steps on someone and then just casually tosses out "I am a stego-saurus!"
I honestly hope they give this movie a sequel! Another Movie, A Disney+ series, anything! I LOVE this movie so much! Arlo is such utter cuteness! I love him so much! I want to see more of him, and please Disney, give him a cute girlfriend if you make a sequel! I beg you!
considering how many issues they had behind the scenes, the movie could have been a lot worse, it's still really pretty to look at and Arlo and Spot were nice characters to follow at least, and the T-rexes were the best part of the movie
There are a lot of really good parts in this movie, which makes it even more frustrating that they don't follow through. Thunderclap needed more screentime.
I think the scene with arlo and his dad and the fireflies was to say that the things that we fear has hidden beauty and wonder, as if he’s dad was trying to point out that if he continues to be afraid of everything he may not see the beauty it hides.
Fun fact: I watched this movie in theaters for my first date I was 13 and we were going to go ice skating but we realized last minute that there was a hokey game that night. It was a small town and an even smaller theater so the only ticket we could get that night was for this movie. We were the only ones there so we got the whole theater to ourselves, and with my mom, my mom was there. She was sweet and sat at the opposite side of the theater though.
I remember when i was younger my parents rented this movie and i would straight up sleep in the living room on the couch just to watch this movie when going to bed.
To be honest... I donnt want to watch the movie just because of the designes of the dinosaurs... like... I understand stylized and over the top character design (especially because I am a characterdesigner myself) but the raptors and Pteranodons just... look horrible. Especially in contrats to the amazing backgrounds and those silloutte shots they made.
Thanks for the review. Your dog, twice, lol! Accurate. And I didn’t think I’d like The Good Dinosaur as much as I thought I did. Something about seeing the dino’s perception of a little human, instead of the other way around, was such a good subversion for me.
hi I've become your biggest fan this past month, thanks for making me happier and more empathetic. I decided to comment on this video because I was mad you used the wrong "your" in the last line but that's just because I'm an English major. Man I probably sound weird right now; I have never even commented on a video before, but I just wanted to say my thank you for putting out amazing content that makes me feel better about who I am and the world I live in.
About a year before this movie was announced, I got a chunk of the script for an audition, I had to sign the non-disclosure contracts and whatnot, and, in the end, didn't get the part, but I can say that as far as I know, Sam Elliot was not informed that he was a T-rex; the script was devoid of any description of physical characteristics of any of the characters, containing only what was necessary to portray them.
I'm sorry, I love the concept of this channel, but I don't quite get the reasoning behind why some of these are "wins." For example, win number 55. You outwardly say you feel uncomfortable about it, but then you mark it as a positive? That's the same thing that cinemasins considered a bad thing.
Why does no one talk about the jarring execution (literally) of the dad's death scene? Cause its whiplash inducing. Nor do I hear or find talk of the close up emphasis on his bruises or bones grinding after arlo washes ashore? Whoever did that was balsy, sadistic, and really took it to another level. I mean, they could've just shown some minor grimace over his injuries and moved on, cementing the sadness and grief of his experience. But no, they added the physical reality of it too. While in theaters watching this movie, people literally walked out during that scene. Children bawling, parents cursing.... Seriously, why the silence?
I like this channel. I dunno, your little summation at the end of each video is great. I agree with you on this film Also, thanks for the HTTYD video and all the positive vibes!
I'd give an extra win to the blowing on the kid after that near drowning scene. In real life near drowning scenarios divers do this when people have blackouts, it works surprisingly well when your face feels wind.
2:14 Cinema wins I understand what they are talking about Arlo’s dad is trying to show Arlo that even in the darkness you can find light so that whenever Arlo is scared he should find out if there is something that isn’t scary within it
I do genuinely like this movie and I feel like the lessons of true courage and facing death of loved ones is an important lesson especially the latter for kids
The settings. Done, that's all that was good about it. Lol. I'm kidding, I appreciate that CinemaWins tries to find something positive about the movies they review, even the unpopular ones like this one. This video actually made me want to revisit this movie...which isn't easy. Mega wins to this channel for giving even the flawed movies a shot at being... slightly less bad...? I'm trying to be nice to a movie I don't like, okay? It's hard. Lmao.
Huh. I would've listed the look Arlo's dad shared with his boy right before he died as a win. Sure it's dark, but it's only a few frames and you can FEEL the regret and heartache and love he has for this boy, and how he never got to properly show it, and how he's reflecting on all the things he never did despite having all the time to do. ...Maybe I'm reading to much into it, but that was my take away.
I have a small bias for this movie because I got to see it at Pixar studios with a q&a and they totally recognized as a my side of the mountain boy and his dog combo.
I just binge watched all of your videos, even the ones of movies I've never seen, and if your goal was to encourage people to go watch said movies they'd previously heard bad things about, mission accomplished! These are funny and hilarious, please continue doing more! Perhaps some more from the marvel franchise?
For the life of me, I don't know why, but the cowboy t-rex run is one of the funniest things I have seen. Seriously. I was laughing so hard for so long that my sides started hurting.
hey lee, I have been watching your channel for a while now and you are honestly my favorite, I'm rewatching all your videos from the start and I just wanna say you have grown a lot your commentary has gotten better and your editing and style has improved too, also I love the longer outros and explanations its one thing that really sets you apart, in your recent videos it feels like I'm one watching a win video which is in itself super great, but then you add your thoughts at the end and that's my favorite part, anywho I really love this channel and you should be really proud of how much you have grown ;) p.s have I mentioned that I'm dying to see you win forest Gump?
You know, you should review the movie Mary and Max. It's an underrated classic, and a emotional rollercoaster, especially at the end. But it might be a little too dark considering it's themes on mental illness, alcoholism, love, and depression, not to mention suicide. But I'd still recommend it
A "win" my dad pointed out while we first watched this movie was, during the dad's death scene, right before getting swept away, he realized his imminent demise. The stakes weren't high, since anyone over the age of 10 knew that they weren't going to kill off Spot, I mean.... It's a toddler, you can't kill a toddler in an animated kids movie. So overall, while the soundtrack was incredible, and the animation was inspiring (although the dinosaurs seemed out of place, I think the Pixar animators had trouble balancing out beautiful realistic animation with the cartoonish style they love), it was kinda a bad movie, in regards to the plot, at least.
i agree wholeheartedly. couldn't have said it better myself.
Don't forget the Raptors are also hostile but this comment is 2 years old so you probably don't care ._.
Go watch the cinemasins version of this. Basically sums up what you said
Then just show it to a kid who hasn't seen Lion King.
At the last point, I have one word: Dinotopia.
THAT was good 3-part movie. This is just pure garbage, except for the graphics.
He said DINOtopia, not Zootopia. Tooootally different movies, man.
OMG I remember Dinotopia !!!!!
Redflametrow one problem dinosaurs aren't lizards there birds
I have absolutely NO idea why this didn't do so well. And the building of the environment is some dinosaur documentary quality CGI. And obviously, the reason the dinos themselves weren't made to the same realism standard is because realistic dinosaurs would either be scary or harder to relate to.
Ive always thought that this movie was criminally underrated
That's an understatement. It had unique concepts with good themes as well. Better than inside out or Moana for that matter.
When Arlo realised he had to let Spot go was so emotional for me tbh 😭😭
"How many years before someone uncovers an inappropriate word in the fireflies?"
hmmmm... I say at the most, six.
I was happy that they weren't singing
Yeah, cuz' the last Pixar musical was...wait a sec--
This movie is definitely one of my favorite Pixar films. It was gorgeous and the story was definitely underrated and a bit deeper than people give it credit for.
now that's noggin your using
I will never EVER understand why this movie flopped and why people hate on it so much.
Couldn't agree more.
I hate to be that guy, but You're* welcome
+terretsforever
Yup. Been making me cringe for 3 months. Your the first to point it out though. You're grammar skills are excellent. ;)
+CinemaWins Your* I'm so sorry...
+CinemaWins for the first "Your" in these sentences (in your comment, not in the video, and also not the correction that was made), it should be you're, and the second one should be your. This was probably on purpose, but if not, just thought I'd point it out.
+Amaterasu The Wolf no it was on purpose. I think he made a mistake before in another comment but idc
WHAT THE HECK! I WAS ABOUT TO DO THE SAME!!! (sorry for all caps)
I cried at the end of Inside Out, Brave, Finding Nemo, and The Good Dinosaur. Pixar Rules.
This was an amazing film. The animation alone was gorgeous plus the ending made me cry
I was one of those people who sobbed my eyes out during this movie

....
*sighs* wait for it...
Do an Everything Great about Robots. I feel like it’s a heavily underrated film. Anyone else who feels the same way, leave a like :3
Hey man, great job on the video, I'm glad you're making a positive channel and not a negative one, I'm sure your channel will do AMAZING in the future, so, KEEP IT UP! :D
Thanks Yera!
+CinemaWins Yeah! I'm glad you're a positive channel instead of like that no good Cinemasins. I'm looking forward to your videos!
The scene with the fireflies is meant to tell Arlo that he can "find the beauty in the darkness" or something like that.
Am I the only one who fell in love with the T-Rex segment? Should've been longer!
"He'll figure it out, he'll be just fine"
Me, seeing how the channel has grown in those 5 years: 🥺❤
Not many people talk about this movie, I’m glad someone did
Everything great about Inside Out
I love that movie! Do it.
That's my favorite Pixar movie and I'd love to see it as a cinema wins!
but that movie is terrible....
prepare to meet your DESTINY Yes.
Yes!
YEEEESSSSS!!!
prepare to meet your DESTINY The win counter would explode.
I beg you!
The landscape is just so dang great it's hard to remember this is an animated movie before you see the dinosaurs, then you are amazed again and again.
considering how many issues they had behind the scenes, the movie could have been a lot worse, it's still really pretty to look at and Arlo and Spot were nice characters to follow at least, and the T-rexes were the best part of the movie
when it's 4 in the morning and you can't sleep and watch this video and just immediatly start bawling your eyes out
Love your content! Binge watching your vids
There are a lot of really good parts in this movie, which makes it even more frustrating that they don't follow through. Thunderclap needed more screentime.
I still havnt been able to watch this cause my six year old nephew was " too scared" to watch a movie called the GOOD dinosaur
I think the scene with arlo and his dad and the fireflies was to say that the things that we fear has hidden beauty and wonder, as if he’s dad was trying to point out that if he continues to be afraid of everything he may not see the beauty it hides.
Finally praise for this movie...

"The jokes right themselves"?
This is one of the very few films that actually was able to make me tear up a little in the theater. So I give it mad props👍👍
4:48 that sound is from HTTYD. I play the mobile game and recognise that dragon cry from anywhere.
Fun fact: I watched this movie in theaters for my first date
I was 13 and we were going to go ice skating but we realized last minute that there was a hokey game that night. It was a small town and an even smaller theater so the only ticket we could get that night was for this movie. We were the only ones there so we got the whole theater to ourselves, and with my mom, my mom was there. She was sweet and sat at the opposite side of the theater though.
"I'm not like you."
"You're me _and more."_
Perfect Getaway is an underrated gem. Wish I hadn't wiki'd the plot first though...
I do cry in cinema. When watching *the good dinosaur* with my family.
Btw where arlo and his family lives is a real place (Moulton barn look it up *it’s in Wyoming*)
The T-Rex dad looks terrifying. Especially his face.
Just imagine being chased by that through an open field.
😣
4:47 I screamed at that part the first time I watched the movie. It was so cute...
...I laughed hard....
I won't sleep until you do Live action beauty and the beast. GIVE ME!!! Great video
hi I've become your biggest fan this past month, thanks for making me happier and more empathetic.

"Opposable thumbs are for suckers"
Get it? Because we suck our thumbs as kids, and...suckers...thumbs......I'll leave.
What about that scene when Spot left Arlo? I bawled during that scene it was so sad but amazing!
Honestly this movie was very underrated. I LOVED THIS MOVIE.
I'm sorry, I love the concept of this channel, but I don't quite get the reasoning behind why some of these are "wins." For example, win number 55. You outwardly say you feel uncomfortable about it, but then you mark it as a positive? That's the same thing that cinemasins considered a bad thing.
it's funny how you made a spelling error in the subtitles right after you said we're not all perfect all the time.
It's funny how you made a spelling error while calling him out for his spelling error.
Potato Thief ... Autocorrect?
Jesse McClure
Don't make excuses!
Potato Thief where is the spelling error in the comment? maybe I'm just not seeing it but I can't find any
What is the outro he always uses? :) Love your videos by the way!
2:14 Cinema wins I understand what they are talking about Arlo’s dad is trying to show Arlo that even in the darkness you can find light so that whenever Arlo is scared he should find out if there is something that isn’t scary within it
Can we also mention that spot isn't a....caveboy? He's just me as a 3 year old
I do genuinely like this movie and I feel like the lessons of true courage and facing death of loved ones is an important lesson especially the latter for kids
I have a small bias for this movie because I got to see it at Pixar studios with a q&a and they totally recognized as a my side of the mountain boy and his dog combo.
you missed the greatest scene of the movie when arlo and spot just share a moment of pure joy - I think this moment is really touching and special :)
These videos are great! Please keep making them, definitely going to start sharing around.
hey lee, I have been watching your channel for a while now and you are honestly my favorite, I'm rewatching all your videos from the start and I just wanna say you have grown a lot your commentary has gotten better and your editing and style has improved too, also I love the longer outros and explanations its one thing that really sets you apart, in your recent videos it feels like I'm one watching a win video which is in itself super great, but then you add your thoughts at the end and that's my favorite part, anywho I really love this channel and you should be really proud of how much you have grown ;)
p.s have I mentioned that I'm dying to see you win forest Gump?
You know, you should review the movie Mary and Max. It's an underrated classic, and a emotional rollercoaster, especially at the end. But it might be a little too dark considering it's themes on mental illness, alcoholism, love, and depression, not to mention suicide. But I'd still recommend it
