Made in FL Studio with Patcher (only stock plugins)!
For beginners, compression is a pretty hard technique to understand and master. I know that cause I was a beginner too. SSL compression emulations helped me a lot cause the fixed attack and release times were creating big differences between the values, and I started experimenting and using my ears. The most famous SSL Compressor VSTs are the ones by Waves, IK Multimedia, Universal Audio, Cytomic, Analog Obsession, and others, and they have all different flavors and features, so it's really hard to replicate the original SSL compressor sound! Don't stress tho, just have fun, and don't be afraid to experiment! In my version of the compressor, I've introduced some extra features: 2 distortions, a weird but cool "curve" slider, a highpass filter on the sidechain input, and the possibility to do parallel compression in the plugin itself without doing annoying extra routing. Interesting stuff here. I personally have hundreds of 3rd party plugins, many of which mimic SSL compressors so I don't dabble much in FL Patcher but this definitely opened my eyes to the power that it has. Just subbed, hope to see more interesting stuff like this!

I'm just amazed and grateful, so grateful. I'm testing AlexB's SSL 4000 G for Nebula, with the Ratio 2 Golden LR preset, which for me has the best characteristics. I'm trying to hear the difference from one to the other and honestly I still can't. I didn't hear the bass distortion that happens in all plugins, Waves, SSL, Native instruments, The Glue. I have never seen (heard) a real unit. For me the only downside of this patcher is the lack of a V.U Meter and as far as we know, it's not Frank's fault but Image-Line's. I'm just a production enthusiast, but what can I say: Simply amazing. Thank you very much Frank, all the best to you.

HOW TO CREATE A STEP KNOB
-On the surface, in *edit mode*, right-click the knob or slider you want to turn into a step knob/slider
-Proprieties -> Maximum value... -> type the **number of steps** you want **minus 1**.
-Right-click the knob again.
-Proprieties - > Move speed... -> type **1**

Okay so, if you’re trying to get program dependent release times like an analog unit, would you need to get frequency splits for peak/envelope controllers that get averaged out to control, simultaneously, the Release, Sustain, and Curve features to get true analog modeled timing controls? This is the kinda stuff that I’m trynna figure out for, like, emulating a Fairchild Vari Mu with stock plugins to make a patcher preset. Since often times with analog gear the attack and release times actually are the time for about 60-75% of the total attack and release action to occur and it is all nonlinear. Thats not even getting into FB/FF comp if you’re doing 1176 or API style. Reaper has some insane abilities and stuff their community has done. The way MOTT & smart:comp have really advanced controls for attack and release I’m sure can be modeled in FL with clever patcher mindset. How would that be recreated in FL? I’m sure it’s powerful enough but idk all the setup for that stuff. I have a bunch of experience with hardware & have high quality emulation plugins. I’m gonna try this out against my SSL Bus plugins and see how it sounds based on how I would run it in a mix if I was back on of the consoles.

Mmh, what do you mean? FL has Fruity Vocodex and Vocodex, do you have in mind a specific kind of effect?
@@FrankPole i meant, when we use vocoder/vocodex we need to rename & route mixer tracks and all that time consuming stuff. so i thought if there's a possibile way to make a patch for vodocer/vocodex in patcher where we simply use the patch rather than routing everything to the mixer...
How do you make a stepped knob in patcher ?
Set the maximum value to the number of steps you desire minus 1. Then set the Move speed of the knob to 1.

Hey Frank, I know you're not a fan of Waves OneKnow plugins. But if you can recreate the Waves CLA MixCentric plugin, I would be very grateful. I just this plugin on my busses. So if I can replace this waves plugin with a patcher plugin created by you, use the finalizer on the mastering bus, then everything would be perfect. So, please?

Yess, there is! I did the “OneKnob Compression” according to my taste and my ear. My preset sounds different from the “1k Compression” and it also can be used in parallel: you’ll love it! 😇

The are Patcher presets. Patcher is a stock plugin of FL Studio. They work on both Windows and macOS!
