    This is the village of my mother and grandfather's side of my family. The old family home faces the second plaza, the plaza that faces the church, where my grandparents and parents were married. (The home is right next to Theater Sol, and is currently for sale.) Thank you for making this documentary, I've learned a great deal in less than 15 minutes, and now I can't wait to go back and find some of the tour guides, whom are probably already known by various family members, to learn more about the history of this wonderful town!

    San German was named by Hispanic colonists to honor Germaine de Foix the second wife of king Fernando of Aragon former husband of Queen Isabella. Before that the region was referred to as la Villa de Sotomayor which was destroyed in an indian uprising led by Agueybana II in 1510.

    The Mayor of this town raised his wage 3 times to over $80,000 a year. His wife works for the government and his son works for the government and his daughter works for the government and I assume that many other family members work for the government. While we pay all his families needs other towns peoples family live without. If you ask what is happening to the economics of the island is that we have 78 family just like this one ( 78 towns) and then we have 27 senators at $ 78.000 a pop with their family and 51 representative and their family. Do the math and see why we are in trouble because the political infrastructure has a tight grip to the way things are and will not let loose.

    • @hectornegron9155
      @hectornegron9155 8 років тому +2

      Although I might agree with you regarding the economic situation in San German in particular and Puerto Rico as a whole, I also belief attracting tourists to our home town which as the second oldest city in Puerto Rico since its foundation after the arrival of the Spaniards, with a rich culture dating back more than five centuries, could in fact contribute immensely to better our situation. That my dear friend, was as I see it, the purpose of the producers while creating this beautiful video. In that sense I believe that if you have any ideological differences with the Mayor and his political party you should wait until election time comes along and vote against him and see if the majority of the people agree with you. After 16 years in office and the big possibility of being re-elected to a brand new four year term, seems pretty obvious that they don’t. I suggest you take your political cheap shots, and personal contradictions somewhere else.
      This video has the clear intention of showing to the world the beauty and history -and again- rich culture of our beloved city of San German regardless of who is the Mayor and what political organization he represents or whether you and I agree with his ideology or not. By the way I’m not a follower of neither this Mayor nor his political party. I just want to make that clear. I however feel that what I want for my country has nothing to do with what is presented here. I’m capable of putting politics and ideologies aside for the greater good which in this case happens to be my home town.
      Your comment as I see it has the obvious intention of making the Mayor look as a corrupt politician which shows to the world just how narrow minded you are since this is not the forum for that. Put yourself in the shoes of let’s say a potential tourist from Australia, India or London to name just a few, someone who couldn’t care less about our local political differences and ask yourself what if anything did that person who was thinking about visiting us, learned about the history and culture of our city and what it has to offer after reading your politically biased and out of place comment. Think about it, you can’t just throw out the baby with the bath water just because the water has soap in it. You need to be able to differentiate one thing from the other. This forum is to promote our city regardless of who you or I think the political candidate should be. That's why we have elections every 4 years. This is bigger than that. This is about attracting visitors to our city, our beautiful city. This is about San German and San German only. Your political ideology -and mines- has no place here.
      By the way, never assume you know something you don't. As the saying goes… "When you assume, you make an ass out of you and me."

    • @michaelgonzalez7240
      @michaelgonzalez7240 7 років тому +1

      Hector, I have no interest in what a town has to offer tourist when it's people are suffering economically by the politicians and their family. An ass just follows orders and pay tributes to the corruption that is occurring in town and on the Island. There is a time for money making and a time to stand and tell the world how corrupt all politicians are by making us pay for their livelihood and we must in every matter and forum available to the citizens of this Island speak out .This Mayor of San German and his family are living the good life and it is unfair.
