    Thanks guys. San German is really a nice town with lost of history. I did visit this town a year and a half ago, but you have motivated me to return and record the churches again. Porta Coeli was closed when I visited, but hope to see it open next time.

      Yah it's worth seeing and hearing the ghost stories. Maybe we can go together and see the underground tunnel system too! The guide said they were anywhere from 3 feet tall to 10 feet in some places.

    My grandma used to live in La Tea, which is an old rural neighborhood just 20 minutes away from that church. I fucking loved that house. Huge driveway going up and a terrace right next to it, her house had 2 bathrooms, 3 rooms all with air conditioning, kitchen and livingroom, a gaming area where my cousin had his N64 and later Gamecube; those were some badass summer trips ngl. Never thought that church was haunted.

      @AngelCarrillo-yu5tz 3 роки тому

      @@LifeTransPlanet thanks, she sold it to a family member from her daughter's husband. It was the biggest house rebuilt on cement, since a lot of them were old and built with wood. But if you visit San German again and look for La Tea, just keep going straight when you're there until you hit a dead end; the biggest house on your right was her house. She had to sell it for reasons I'm not entirely sure. She's staying in her own apartment behind my aunt's house in another neighborhood in San German. It's close to the Amigos supermarket. Maybe it's not Amigos anymore, but the structure is white.

    Your videos are so refreshing and educational, even for someone like me, born and raised in Puerto Rico. I hope you can continue making these videos and improve the production quality. Just two tips from a guy with many years of video production experience outside of UA-cam: 1) Try to keep your camera or phone as steady as posible. 2) When panning or moving your camera from one side to the other, do it slowly. If you think the take is too long, speed it up or trim it in post.

    • @LifeTransPlanet
      @LifeTransPlanet  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks Mel! Yes, we are totally novices at this, but getting better. I find the slower I go, the better it turns out. In person our heads move really fast and we can take in a lot of info, but filming it takes our eyes a lot slower/longer to register. Maybe someday you can go with us on an adventure and show us a thing or two :-)

    Very cool video I had to watch it twice.. For me this would be a place to visit some day, one of my sisters lived on the outskirts of San German for a while and i remember it as being very pleasant there. Lots of history in that old town. It had been debated where Christopher Columbus is buried but one of the locations is believed to have been inside of a church in Spain, for this reason i had heard of the church thing way back then. (first bellow ground now above in a mausoleum sill inside the church) In the DR they will say he's buried there.

      @@LifeTransPlanet Nowadays most Puerto Ricans are either Christmas and Easter Catholics or devoted protestants. But back in the day most Puerto Ricans were hard core believers in the Catholic faith and as a result we have many legends and myths and sacred sites and interesting lore.
      The best sacred site, or at least the one that is best preserved, is a shrine at a well in Sabana Grande. The Virgin Mary allegedly appeared to some children and told them some prophecies about the fate of mankind. People had mass pilgrimages to the religious site where they were cured of diseases and such. There's even cool blurry video of a sky phenomenon (or camera aberration) that crowds interpreted as a sign from God.
      If I remember correctly the Catholic church wanted to declare them heretics. They remain somewhat relevant because they tie the prophecies to the hurricanes and the earthquakes.
      I haven't been there in several years but if things haven't changed you'll find a tall statue of the Virgen del Rosario locked in a glass cage, the holly well, a chapel, some historical documents and sacred artifacts, free roaming chickens, and a collection of leg braces and wheelchairs and crutches from people who were healed.
      I'm a non believer but I love these sites because they're interesting and... well... creepy. I was also into UFO lore when it was big in Puerto Rico but it disappeared when people started carrying cameras in their pockets.
      The place has a dress code so no flip flops or sandals, no shorts, no short skirts, and if I remember correctly no exposed sinful shoulders. Once I had to turn away at the Santuario Schoenstatt in Juana Diaz because of the many signs that warned lustful seducers from entering the property and my SO and I were apparently too sexy for their church.
      The Schoenstatt at Cabo Rojo is pretty neat but there's no creepy stuff there.
      Love your videos. Keep them coming.

      I love language and the etymology! Depends where you go on the island, but yes Spanish is definitely preferred. Many people are bilingual too! I have never heard anyone speak just the original Taino language that was spoken prior to Spanish colonization though. Hey Gbenro! Porta Coeli isn't Spanish, it's Latin! That's why it was hard to pronounce. Spanish is easy; you just say it as it's written. There aren't too many buildings left that are as old as this one and many have had major repairs over the years. San German is an amazingly cool town!
