I have been collecting for over 40 years, it never seises to amaze me just how much people are willing to pay for (so called rare) Jazz records. Here in the UK, I can buy crates full of this junk for next to nothing. The charity shops can't give the stuff away.
That junk won’t sell for less than 15 usd in my country I just can find any records below that , most vinyl in decent condition sells for 25 usd on average , crappy condition for 15 usd and new ones go for 40:usd and more. It’s awful that’s why I am more into CDs now , ironically I don’t have any problem getting them for 3- 8 usd.
Some phenomenal purchases there, Mike! Can only imagine how dispiriting it might feel to have started browsing 5min after you, watching you snag all those sweet deals! #BuyNowOrCryLater
I was at that guys booth for the early birds, and I could’ve went broke buying all his jazz albums. I did get a handful of great stuff from him though. Early bird day is the only day to go.
@@Glamdring2011 ok. But you don’t have to be Scrooge mc duck and buy em all. The regular folks didn’t even get in yet it’s still dealer day for crying out loud! 😂
There’s a lot of work to do. Now he has to clean, play grade, get those labels off the covers without damaging, use anti static sleeves for the vinyl, and finally price and use a poly sleeve.
Mike, what do you think about the '80/'90 air metal, sleezy and hard rock bands. That records are usually pretty expensives and there are really good bands and albums from that period
At my local (who I trust VERY much), if I see a used record for less that $10, it is often BELOW G… Mike you made all of those purchases without listening …. How confident do you feel about their condition?
Not a fan of CGC style records. I believe records need to be heard not seem. I do in fact like a professional service that can grade records and come with a cert and some type of breakable seal that's not expensive can't be resealed- to prevent fraud. Not using the same hard case that cgc uses for comics. The reason it worked so well with comics because you can always buy a reprint or TPB and get the same experience as reading 1st print. Not always same experience with reissues lp's. The grader needs to be well experience and the service needs to be cheap enough to make it attractive to sellers to use.
How do you know for sure that these $6 and $8 albums are going to play cleanly without pops, clicks and hiss without actually putting it onto your TT? especially in a system of the level that you have at home that is beyond impressive which I would imagine is as revealing of any flaws in the source material as a system could be.
You are just rubbing it in Mike. I had a small version of that same shopping experience. I won’t say where but I was shocked. Did he have any high prices and what were they. He’s the middle man… Mike! He doesn’t want all that cash….to much work.
Grading and encapsulating records is a stupid idea in my opinion. Records are not baseball cards! They're meant to be played and enjoyed. I realize Mike's looking at it from a business standpoint, but that's going too far
@@bigsweetc6 very true. There are VERY rare records that would justify encapsulation but they’re very few, and that’s not enough to warrant the need for multiple companies providing the service. I agree it would be tragic if encapsulating records became the norm like it it is for comics and baseball cards, etc. It would ruin the hobby.
@@HeavyEarly Because it's Texas. There are several states and countries I won't visit (and contribute to the economy of) unless they change significantly.
This $30 early bird day is pretty empty, but the Saturday show will be packed. And this video confirms what I was expecting: the vendors are going to be even more overpriced than last time and some of the good deals are already gone, lol. If it wasn't close to me, I wouldn't bother going. 🙄
By the time the dealers have all traded with each other, and the grifters have paid extra for their early day pass, there will be very little left in the way of great deals for the average person. Everything will have been snapped up, re-priced and will be waiting for the unsuspecting members of the public, who will now have to pay double for the item they treasure.
When you look at those prices, great vinyl under $10 , and you look at Record Store Day prices makes you wonder WTF going on
This is what they mean when they say “don’t show how the sausage is made”.
Thanks for the ride! Hope there´s more to come.
I had a awesome experience working as a consultant for impulse Records.

Went to the show on Friday. Missed seeing you. Bought 5 different pressings of magical mystery tour. Comparison time. Back to painting.

Good stuff, Mike! Thanks for the overview - wish I was there.
Early bird or bust on this show!
I need to go to this show once in my life !

Oh la la I spotted a Kaleidoscope - Tangerine Dream on the wall. Even if it's the 80's reissue it sounds great
Got mine the week it was issued here in UK
Cool to see. Are you coming to Den Bosch later this year Mike? The recent DB convention was a lot of fun.
Mike, the prices you payed for those records were the prices you normally paid back in 2003 for those records ...
Hello Michael, awesome
this is insane, every time I go to a record show in around me the prices are insane, and usually for garbage...
Bob Bradley should be there!
That Munsters album is amazing !! 💀⚰
i am looking for Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up the girl Purple or Hot Pink vinyl. Let me know if you are selling one. Thanks
I didn’t see much of the big ones missing so they don’t fly of the wall at those prices.
What are the record storage boxes you have on the floor behind your table? They look pretty sturdy.
“Really useful boxes” is the brand.
Wow, incredible prices
I've never been to a record convention.
I want that Hendrix colored pressing
Wall promo looks killer.
You have any Toni Braxtion records ? I need the heat
Damn, nice haul. Is that a nudie Electric Ladyland?

Graded incapsulated records, lol- pointless. Thats going to suck really bad if it catches on.

You let the cat out of the bag , Vinyl Is Overpriced 😮
I'm on an Art Blakey kick lately... I would argue that Free for all and Indestructible are slightly better albums than moanin.
It's funny to me that the most money he paid was for a Munsters record, lol.
Interstellar BBQ best bbq in Austin
That was cool
MAn that Munsters record would be a a decent deal at $5
That's the prices the should be! You an everyone is over priced!
It was like 2002 prices 😂

It’s disgusting and anyone who seals and encapsulates a record clearly cares not about the music aspect.
I think it depends on the record. I agree records are to be played, but if I had a pristine butcher cover I’d definitely have it encapsulated.
@@10centtunes the key word is butcher “cover”. That’s one of the few exceptions where the disk is secondary.

$50 early bird
