  • A day of exploramenting in the Penn State Behrend Gorge. Also called Wintergreen Gorge. It's a rather beautiful place. This is the first time I made it all the way to the tunnel. I have to say that I've only met one or two people who have actually clammed they made it all the way to the tunnel and one person who went through. At some point near the end of the semester or beginning of next semester I would like to venture into the tunnel. Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see a follow up video!

    Looking at the satellite view, it looks like the tunnel turns a bit to the east under the highway before it comes out. Should be interesting to see when the water is lower.

    That tree cancer is called burl. It can be quite valuable to wood workers. You should harvest some and see if you can get some money for it.

      Robonza interesting. I didn't know it was sought after. I could take a small chunk I guess. not much tho because that isn't my property, and at that point I don't even think I was still on Penn State's land. I'll keep that in mind tho. thanks!

    That strange farm/moss is called Bärlapp where I live. You can make som sort of Flashpowder out of it.

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101  7 років тому

      Ranti Hurtig that is exactly what it is. I looked it up, that's amazing!! plant is called Clubmoss in English. Lycopodium powder is the spores from it which used to be used as a flash powder. I am going to have to do a video on this plant. thank you so much!! I learned something awesome today!

    Beautiful, you should get a drone. I also recommend you get a Gopro hero 5 and karma grip for more stable videos. What camera are you using? The footage is amazing!

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101  7 років тому

      Victor Fiori thanks! I would love a drone! I'd probably want a racing type drone over a video drone. I don't do this type of videos often enough. I'd love a Go Pro too. money tho. Sony A7R or an Olympus with 5 axis image stabilization would be amazing. again money. I've thought about trying to build a gimbal. would be a fun project. thanks! it's the Sony A6000. it's a great camera. super high bit rate, 60fps full hd, optical image stabilization is pretty decent, compact, decently durable(I've dropped it before, fell off tripod, etc) all around great camera for stills and video

      Makerj101 if your looking for a new camera, i would look into the Lumix G85. Its got 5 axis stabilization. Go pros are getting cheaper, around $400. You should build a drone.

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101  7 років тому +1

      Victor Fiori yes, the Panasonic Lumix G85 is a great camera! for me it would be between the Sony A6500, G85, and Olympus E-M10. All have on body 5 axis stabilisation. since I already have a Sony that I love I would lean towards the A6500 if money weren't an issue. plus the Sony has a microphone input jack which would be awesome to have. I hopefully won't be looking to buy a new camera for a few years. 1080 is still going to be the standard for some time. most people's internet connections can't even handle 4k yet. let alone monitors and graphics cards being cheap enough for the average consumer. 4k essentially means 4 times file size, 4 times render times, upload times etc. I just don't wanna deal with that for a while. I've thought about building a drone. I should at least get myself one of those $50 knockoff go-pros. then I could blow it up on accident and not really even care lol! right now I'm building a computer so I don't have any extra money to spend 😂

    I've always been curious about what the green-blue stuff that grows on logs like that is. During my escapades in the woods I've noticed that it only appears in specific growth rings and is usually the length of (or a good way into) the log. From some digging, it would appear to be Chlorociboria aeruginascens

      The Shift Drum that's exactly what it is! Thanks for finding that. I learned something today! seems like it can be used in woodworking

    Love the video, really beautiful area. But, I really wish you would not hike like this, solo. I'm sure that's part of the attraction, but dang man, the last thing I want to see is your final "found video", recording your last words "stupid me, I wish I had someone with me right now".
